  • Awesome upload!

  • Two fine musicians and two fine pioneers on their instruments, what a great song.

  • i saw them together at the Senator in Toronto years ago .. 5 feet from the best vibraphonist in the world and a kick ass pianist ..

  • Did you create and perfect your own four mallet technique, and make it the generic jazz vibe, and well generic corp vibe and xylo four mallet technique? no? didnt think so. do us all a favor and shut the fuck up.

  • fantastic 3:47 on piano.

  • this is the shit.

  • Absolutely Incredible

  • stunning

  • Bravo!

  • that is some damn dense n' sexy comping.

  • 4:06 woooooooooooooooooh

  • @leopianotuner Woah, what? Burton does NOT suck.

  • @AeroAstro If you've played with Chick Corea you absolutely DO NOT SUCK. What kind of moron said he sucked? lol. Lets show him straight.

  • @leopianotuner Actually I wasn't aware that Burton was a household name. And even if he is, that doesn't mean he sucks. They both rock!

  • freakin' awesome! love it - thanks for sharing!

  • i think that if there wold come a day when i wold see Gary Burton in person...that's the wold be the day when i think that my death cold come at peace.

  • C’EST TRES BIEN.

    MERCIE BEAUCOUP!

  • Gary gets such a cool sound out of the vibes.

  • @livegigs,,thanks, also nice of him to comp for Cal. On YouTube, check these two out;from [pianinfan] Yukari Inoue Trio "Minor Swing" and from[ [FranklyJazz] Paul Horn "We Three Kings of Orient Are". This is a truly great arrmt. of Mongo's much loved tune Afro Blue". I notice 690 likes & 8 dislikes,of 193,732 views,,that's wonderful. Consider some sympathy for the 8. There are no days awakening I do not thank God for leading me to the sound I was listening for.

  • @freeqwerqwer: "beat"?

  • Makoto is certainly playing outside the Ozone Layer into the celestial realms.

What the heck is he doing with that turnaround? Very cool.

  • @Boldstrummer That's why he's named Makoto Ozone....he's really out there!

  • i cant get over that piano break

  • Eight people tried to play along with the "Pop Goes the Weasel" solo and accidentally clicked "thumbs down."

  • how does something this great only have 175,000 views?

  • @laurlast

cuz if everybody knows about this music, blow the world up

  • I don't know many vibe players..But Roy Ayers has to be somewhere on the Greatest of list..This fantasic though..

  • Compare this with Coltrane's Afro Blue, and it is pretty clear that white people can't play jazz.

  • 4:04- was that pop goes the weasel! what cool solo by both!

  • DAaammNNN!!!!! :)

  • 3:18 is soo good!

  • Ahh, the smooth sound. It's subtle, yet so..........vibrant?

Anyways, love these guys, awesome combo.

  • who has sheets from this pice...or...where can i buy them?....cos i rly wold like to sing this..if you have it...i can offer some vibraphone/marimba sheets insted

  • @NuiStreees

Do you mean transcriptions of this version, or just the main theme on sheet?

  • insparation+desire=success

  • Wonderful !

  • Woah, pop goes the weasel at 4:04?

  • i'm going to burn my mallets and vibraphone..

    shit this is good..

  • Thats crazy i love the piano. Can anyone tell me the scale of this song?

  • @ManiakLord123 The version I have runs it in F minor

  • @MerlinBunny1 Thanks I found it out finally!

  • Fantastique! La meilleure version qu'il puisse exister. You're the best Gary.

  • Love Ozone's quotes!

  • hoo men is fuking awesome

but if they had a drums would be better

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees

  • Gary Burton's the Chick Corea of Vibes.

  • @foodmunkey Chick Corea is the Gary Burton of Piano.

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • Great masters are always just in time when you're feeling lack of happiness. Gary and Makoto can make our life better - and it's a fact :)

  • Amazing.

  • muy bueno lo mejor......

  • Unbelievable - what is the mind to hand interface like with these guys?!!!

  • is there anyway i can get sheet music for this?

  • @themusikcian1 google it, the entire score which has like 20 different parts is $30

  • @dylstick3 It's in the Real Book....

  • Fuck!

  • Awesome mallets, but you eat through them REALLY QUICKLY yarn + vibraphone = bad combination (though sounds pretty good)

  • totally sick

  • wow. nearly as powerful as the original

  • The best version of "AfroBlue", next to that of John Coltrane, it`s my favourite, but i hear them both really more often.......

  • ちょーかっこいい!!

    な・・・なんも言えねえ!!

    (;ω;)

  • do you think he ever uses steven's grip??/ lol.

  • @dylstick3 I dont think so..In his video on the Burton Grip, he talks 20sec. about the Stevens Grip and he dont seems to like it. You can see the grip doesnt look natural in his hands. And he invented the Burton grip when he was younger, so he learned with his own grip. That's what I think about it.

  • this version of afro blue is amazing!

  • Cal Tjader... Wow!

Burton is in town next weekend. Hohohohoho.

  • Damn

  • Diablos, quiero ser vibrafonista D:!

  • Comment removed

  • wow swing swinger swingest swingy

  • yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • best ever!!!!

  • Makoto's solo break is awesome

  • @lou2cv HAH. Very funny. CLEARLY Gary Burton is the superior talent here. FOUR mallets? I laugh at you. HAH.

  • @qwackfartz Lou's mind was blown by the Makoto's impressive run at 3:35. He didn't want to get into some stupid argument about who was superior. Everybody on this page is above that except for you. I play four mallets on vibraphone, marimba, etc., but TEN fingers could easily counter that argument. They are both fantastic musicians who play at an amazingly high level. Don't ruin that for those who want to contribute to a real conversation.

  • @simplyunclassifiable Hey, calm down. I LOVE Makoto Ozone AND Gary Burton. I have a slight preference for the vibraphone over the piano, however, I think it sounds much softer and delicate. I personally play the piano myself, if you think I have nothing upon which to base what I'm saying. It was not so crude as to genuinely imply insult at Makoto Ozone. I apologize if I've offended you, however.

  • @qwackfartz Sorry the name "quackfartz" made me think you were like ten. I too enjoy farts. But, yeah. y'know

  • I saw Gary Burton and Dave Grusin live together in concert. It was awesome.

And I had no idea who Makoto Ozone was until now, but that man is a monster!

  • wow..... amazing

  • seriously, this is so good I want to cry

  • i am

  • @therealbenphelps me too honestly. wow.

  • pop goes the weasel haha 4:04

  • awesome quote

  • @danieljones013 I know, I love it. Well the whole thing in general too

  • Yes! this is MUSIC!

  • improv gods

  • b/c he uses all of them lol, most vibists play with four mallets at least some of the time, it's especially needed four playing chords when you need more than two chord tones

  • Speech;less - awesome music.

  • yes it is

  • oh this is lovely :]

  • Makoto Ozone is extremely precise which adds a great deal to the listening pleasure.

  • Gary Burton is the best!!! He looks like Neil Flanders (The Simpsons' neighbour)) XD

  • Ned Flanders.

    yeah he looks indeed

  • neil. did u really just say neil? u mean ned....right?

  • great music, thanks for posting!!

  • Real brilliance from two masters. Thank you, never knew this existed.

  • gary burton is such a bad ass vibe player. like not only good, but a bad ass.

  • agree man... agree

  • Makoto's definitely a highlight of the new generation. Not as virtuoso oriented as say Hiromi or some of the other ones of this time.

His touch sounds a lot like Chick Corea's.

  • hey. I have this dvd too. I want to know how did you can put videos here.. theres one music that I wanted to put in here- Opus 32

  • such fun... both musicians are amazing. I'm quite sure I even heard a nursery rhyme or song in there somewhere... and he took me to church, too. this was a wonderful experience.

  • i love this song!!!!!!! its my all time favorite

  • this is too good ... aahhhhhhh .... can't stop listening to it

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting.

  • great.....great vibes and piano.....i study every day your " burton tecnique " ....greetings from vibo valentia

  • Holy Crap Ozone is my new hero!!!!

  • This is truly amazing. Can't get enough of it. Thank you so much for posting this wonderful video.

  • Amazing Duo !!!!!!

  • Makoto quotes "Pop goes the weasal" around 4:06

  • tooo big............. fantastic duo

  • You can't look at Gary play and say there's no emotion there.

  • what genre of jazz is this?

  • latin jazz!

  • When Makoto Ozone enter, the scene changes so dramatically that we almost forget Gary Burton even exists... He has so wonderful and modern ideas, far ahead of Burton. So does Chick Corea also. Burton is a classic of his instrument, but he´s too much intellect and small heart.

  • no offense to you, but thats not at all true. I agree that Makoto and Chick kick ass, but Burton is phenomenal not only in his technique but also his ideas and harmonies

  • vibraphone is much harder to feel than any other instrument.

  • i'd say drums

  • Comment removed

  • Burton has the most interesting vibes tone! It's really bright for a vibrapone. At any rate it's a great recording.

  • love the tune

  • Hands down, my favorite arrangement of the piece. The piano perfectly compliments the soft yet commanding tone of the Vibes.

  • wow i would have never thought that vibraphone and piano would sound good together. well, not really not good, but it just seemed like it would be an odd pairing, but with these two masters, it sounds absolutely amazing. gary burton is amazing, a god really XD

  • damn that solo gets me every time. so much soul

  • amazing is right.

  • Amazing!!! Just look at the energy, the style and the virtuosity there.........We see two genius!

  • Played congas on the jazz band adaptation... pretty fun piece

  • may i drum for you

  • He quoted "Pop goes the weasle!" Makoto quoted "pop goes the weasle!"

  • who was the idiot calpping 2-3 clave at the beginning. this is latin jazz in 4/4 time.

  • a 2-3 clave is felt in 4/4 time dunbass. it covers two measures. 2 &3 of the first measure, then 1, and of 2, 4 of the second. but at that this isn't in 4. its in 12/8. its in naningo, a african style. do ur research before you say crap dumbass

  • The song is originally written in 3/4 time so right there 4/4 feel makes you sound stupid. In addition clave continues regardless of what ever western style timing you use. Song must confor to clave. Clave doesn't conform to western standards. You should check you spelling before tell a musicain to do research. this something my proffessor told me. What degree do you have? How many years have you been playing? Insulting someone because of your ignorance is ignorance in itself.

  • really, well i geuss your just like other stupidass cracker that thinks he knows something about latin styles. ur professor to. a 2/3 clave only occurs in cuban forms of music that aren't a branch of rhumba. and your right i misspelled the style. the true african spelling is gnakniguo. afro blue was written to reflect african based music in jazz. and to be exact, its in 6/8. we just see it as 12/8 cuz thats wat we think in. wait ur, not that advanced, u see it in 3/4 within a4/4 pattern:)

  • clave is everywhere

  • Go and get a fake book. Its in 3/4

  • Can't you just enjoy this wonderfull music instead of talking about it?

  • i don't know about you but makoto reminds me of elvis. I like his style though. Also if you listen carefully you can hear him quoting a very familiar song.

  • Who was clapping 2-3 clave at the beginning this song is in 3/4 time.

  • It's Makoto, you can kind of see him doing it behind the piano.

  • Amazing!

  • semplicemente meraviglioso !!!!!

  • thanks so much for posting this.

  • makoto reminds me of chick. mad performance!!!

  • MAD!!!

  • What a cool version of Afro Blue...I had only heard the coltrane version which seems to be overplayed a bit, but the latin vibe gives it a nice kick

  • I had an orgasm...

  • 5:00 on was so beautiful! Fantastic performance overall. Gary is coming to my school and he's going to blow my mind.

  • who cares about the rhythm section? haha gary burton is on stage. :)

  • literaly makes me orgasmic not exactly but close

  • BELLISSIMO FANTASTICOOOOOO!!!!!!

  • Scusa! Non cancerare questa x favore!!Questa e il mio tesoro!!!

  • Makoto is god and same with Gary

  • another great burton rendition of a timeless classic.

  • I went to look up this song in my real book so I could follow along and figure out what he's doing but the first 21 pages ripped off!!

  • Mr. Gary Burton's technique is far beyond normal human's ability. Mr. Gary Burton is God.
