Kid's asleep in the other room, wife's out with the girls, and this creaky old punk is skanking around the place like it's '83 again. Posting this from the heart of Fullerton, btw. We're not all tools.
CHRISTIAN DEATH BABY!! man i love those sounds he makes with his fingers, and you know what hes still more bad ass and original in my opinion at least, than fucking k roq bands. if you listen to this and lived in southern cali than you know what i mean
Sure there's more crime in the OC now with gangs. For the most part most of Orange County is fine except for like Santa Ana. I live in LA in the San Fernando Valley in Northridge, but I know the geography of Southern California very well. I may love Green Day and Blink 182 and Rancid or NOFX, but I also love old school stuff like the Adolescents, Black Flag, Circle Jerks etc... They really kicked ass back in the day.
This entire Album is one of my favorites ever. But I can't find my favorite song on here so would you please add Everyday I would be forever grateful :)
i would definately agree that this song still stands true to OC today but not so much fullerton or anaheim anymore. mostly the south orange county areas. irvine, laguna, mission viejo, aliso, most of newport...
SOMEDAY YOU LIL CHILDREN WILL GROW UP AND ALL LIFES ANSWERS WILL JUST COME TO YER STUPID FAT ASSES WHILE YER TAKIN A SHIT...PUNK AINT A SOUND THAT CAN BE COPIED AND MIMICED LIKE A PARROT...IF IT IS IT AINT PUNKROCK TRUST ME...FUCKIN GOOGLE IT GOONBALLS
@BarrioPunkRock He invented a certain kind of dual lead guitar that is synonomous with "punk" today. Back then it was only synonomous with OC bands that Agnew played lead for.
@mthai66 Dude, totally. He's one of my favorite guitarists. I've gotten so much of my playing from learning Adolescents/D.I./Social Distortion songs on guitar.
@MrChadthemonkey Basically the songs are full of melodic lines that are played on 2 seperate tracks of guitar, each an octave apart. It is an extremely common sound for todays bands, but back then it was signature Agnew.
@MrChadthemonkey It's become a signature "punk" thing. I remember when the D.I. version of this came out and I was the only punk in Boston that listened to it. It was *not* the popular form of punk in 1984-5
@mthai66 Hey, I was ripping off Agnew's octave thing in 1985. Back then you could almost build a whole punk rock career out of being the local guy who did the octave thing.
What Agnew could do that most guitarists can't, was to think in long phrases instead of short, repeating riffs. Almost every great Agnew moment has the octave moving against the chords, then sticking somewhere until the chords catch up, and magically resolving from a 4th to a maj 3rd. He's like an ambush predator.
i know rick now and well he dosent exactly look the same

@powertoolsrule Well yeah, but that's North Orange County. That area's fine.

This is still the best version of the song, period. I'm glad other bands have covered it, but I'll always come back to the original.
If you don't live in or around Orange County, I'll assure you this song is just as true today.

Most emulated guitarist of our time. He invented that octave thing all the "punk" bands use today. And yet, most of them don't even know who he is.
