  • awesome

  • It sounds like a growling lion, and yet is so majestic, pure awesome.

  • I would pay so much money for a ride in a spitfire. Too bad I'm a poor slob..

  • The sound/ music that the engine makes is a beautifull way of saying "I'm coming to Kill You"

  • The Merlin Engine sound is better than any music

  • Icon. Not just because its beautiful. Not just because it sounds gorgeous. But because it and the Hurricane saved a nation against overwhelming odds. It's embedded in the British psyche. I suspect those living outside these Isles might not get it.

  • just the sound of the engine, its lush lol

  • R.I.P

    R. J. Mitchell

    What a machine!

  • in fact if anyone could combine this vid with Hanz Zimmer's 'journey to the line' it'd REALLY appreciate it, just do it and try it you'll know what I'm on about, epic...........

  • Brought a tear to my eye when combined with Hans Zimmer's Journey to the line, both started at the same time, epic piece of music anyway but just fits this video clip so so well........ (gotta mute the original video though while listening to it) and please give the thumbs up for a true beauty....the Spit.....

  • Nothing like the sound of a beautiful RR Merlin !!

  • Sorry for the 12 dislikes, but my neighbors thought unfortunately the war started again.

    Upps ...

  • Most wonderfully aerobatic fighter aircraft ever made!

  • You can tell it's a mark IX by the dual radiators, each half the size.

  • no other sound like the merlin and no prettier wing and airfoil than the spitfire..what a beauty

  • @Brianboro67 the mustang wasn't designed from scratch as a long range fighter, it evolved in to it after the merlin was installed, i think you will find every country try to design a fighter to outfly everthing else.

  • THAT.....NOISE.........

    *groan*

  • This video does not deserve a dislike button! It deserve respect for what maybe saved yours or your reletives lives. Don't dislike think about all the people who died flying this spectacular icon of a plane!!! This plane changed history in one-year. NEXT TIME DISLIKERS THINK ABOUT IT!

  • for once...i don't give a shit about 240p...

  • no matter what aircraft video I watch - there is nothing compared to those WW2 vintage warbirds.

I built them in 1/72 when I was 8, and looking at them still gives me goose-bumps (the positive kind)

  • as a nuetral observer the spitfire is far and above the mustang in everything, that engines doesn't make sound it makes music

  • @1littlelee

you should go from a neutral observer to an educated one, then you will realize that the P51 outperformed the spitfire in a number of crucial categories.

  • @hogo1 and if you were an educated person you would know the spitfire was the one that one the battle of britian and was a better dog fighter than the P-51 by a HUGE margin, even the me-109 was better than the P-51 in a good dog fight, but you as a yank would dribble from your vagina if anyone said there was a better plane than the p-51 and there is!

  • @hogo1 which spit? the early marks performance was way diff to later marks, early ones like the mk v where so agile and light but the later ones dispite significant gain in power were alot heavier, diff between first mark and last is 32 odd passangers and there luggage in modern day plane travel terms

  • Comment removed

  • @1littlelee Actually they had the same engine the Merlin. The first Mustang was not any use until they fitted they fitted a Merlin as an experiment. On balance the Mustang was a better aircraft the wing had excellent compressabilty characteristics better than some early jets. However the Spitfire in totally iconic and if offfered the choice between the two would always choose the Spitfire

  • @1littlelee wanna know a secret?...it's the same engine most of the time

  • @1littlelee The "classic" Mustang P51-D was developed by the british and had the Merlin engine, built under licence by Packard.

  • A lovely aircraft, a wonderful engine and GREAT sound!

  • The Zero kill ratio was admittedly against much inferior aircraft such as the Brewster Buffalo and Grumman Wildcat, as well as obsolete bombers like the Douglas Devastator. However the Zero, up until 1942, was definitely one of the best fighters flying at that time. Lack of meaningful development saw the Zero overtaken by newer allied aircraft.

  • @dcanmore Zero is BOSS :)

  • @1neroamd ... the Zero is one of the great fighter designs of all time but it couldn't compete with any new allied fighter design produced after 1942, lack of development condemned it.

  • @dcanmore yes

  • Personally I would have to admit that the Japanese Mitsibushi Zero was far superior to the Spitfire. The ZER was faster more manouverable, had three times the range and had a kill ration of 12 to 1

  • @ScottishCaledonian A couple points with your argument. The Zero was built as a carrier-based fighter thus for offensive operations hence built-in greater range. Spitfire was originally designed as a defensive aircraft to patrol over it's own land/coastline. Spit Mk1 was faster at 355mph to Zero's 335mph. Zero has twice the range of Spitfire (not 3 times) at 1175miles. Zero is more maneuverable and has a better rate of climb. All Spitfire variants after 1942 are superior in every way to the Zero

  • @dcanmore The Mustang was surely superior to the Spitfire however.

  • @ScottishCaledonian ... yes, once the Mustang was fitted with the RR Merlin engine it was transformed into a fantastic fighter, so too was the Focke-Wulf 190 a terrific fighter. These aircraft and the Zero were much younger designs than the Spitfire which first flew in 1936 and entered service in 1938, essentially a pre-war aircraft, that is a testimony to its great and innovative original design that it managed to be continually developed to match the newer aircraft throughout the war.

  • @dcanmore Best fighter of WW2? Can that be said of any plane? But, if you look at the aircraft that were front-line fighting equipment on Sept 1 1939 and summer 45, there were only two of them, the Spit and the 109. The 109 was past it's "best before date" by then.

Only one plane, the Spitfire, was a menace on the first day of the war, and the last. That is why I say it was the greatest fighter of WW2.

  • @wilmanric1 ... I'm not sure what you are replying to here, but if you read all my comments over the past two pages the discussion began with myself defending the Spitfire against all-comers. So yes, I agree with you.

  • @wilmanric1 ... I'm not sure what you are replying to here, but if you read all my comments over the past two pages the discussion began with myself defending the Spitfire against all-comers. So yes, I agree with you.

  • @ScottishCaledonian If you take out the range advantage of the Mustang the Spitfire as a pure fighter was superior. Hands Down. Read some books.

  • @ScottishCaledonian as a dogfighter no the mustang was not superior than the spitfire, the ix spitfire and mustang were pretty much even with both aircraft with advantages and disadvantages. However as a long distance escort fighter everyone knows why the mustang was superior.

  • @ScottishCaledonian A kill ratio against the worst of obselete and inferior Allied aircraft such as the Brewster Buffalo. The Zero never went up against early marks of spitfire and by the time Spits were assigned to the Far East they would have been vastly superior to the by then under-developed Zero. The Vaught Corsair had a 9-1 kill superiority over the Zero. The Corsair was a dog until the royal navy fleet Air Arm perfected it.

  • Best Spit-Clip ever...

  • In no particular order I love the Spits,Stang, and the hurrie. All are elegant fighters and leathal in the hands of a skilled pilot. As an american I am well aware of the merrits of the merline engine. I am just thankful it was the invention of an ally. Cheers to all fighter pilots who fought in ww2. I admire their courage and skill.

  • I really the sound of the Merlin engine!

  • Last year I was lucky enough to purchase at a boot sale a filthy picture of a Sopitfire spotted by my Mum. I saw it was an oil painting under the layers of filth and dust. I was amazed when the seller asked £3!. After a careful cleaning it's on my wall. It bears the registration MH434. This was stationed at Hornchurch for most of it's WW2 service. My Mum and grandparents lived nearby during the war. I was born in Hornchurch and live not far away now. Lucky find or what?!

  • @noonsight2010 Quality find .The only Spitfire I have seen up close hangs from the roof of the Art Gallery in Glasgow.

  • @munghi It was lucky. Well spotted Mum! You need to get to an airshow - there's nothing like the sight and sound of a Spitfire in the air. I've seen quite a few over the years. I was lucky enough to see a Mosquito in flight back in the early 80's. Wonderful.

  • After the anarchy that's spread across the country over the last few days of August 2011, I can safely say, this video has reassured me that I can be proud to be British !

  • @JimJams2 Mitchell had the foresight and ability to prepare for the inevitable WW2, along with Dowding and Watson Watt. Those three men probably did more than any others to save this country from invasion, although their efforts of course depended on the courage of servicemen and women to realize their acheivements.

  • I remember as a little boy the spit flying over Sydney I think it was an anzac day.The sound has never left me 60 yrs later.Marvellous

  • It makes me wanna play IL-2 over and over again.

  • AMAZING!!! Look how tight that turning circle is!! and the sound cannot be compared too imo, tis the very best!

    Thanks uploader _b

  • Goosebumps ...... yes I know the Yanks had the P-51 (thanks to the Brit Merlin) but there truly is nothing that can compare to the beauty and sound of the Spitfire. Goosebumps!!!!!!

  • Such elegance!

  • How can something made for war be so beautiful

  • FANTASIC NOISE!!! Tell me plse, when did Mark Hanna pass away? =(

  • Many aircrafts are beautifuls, but this one...Yes, if there was to be only one, it would be the Spitfire.

  • It was the sane thing throughout the whole video... still its a great plane

  • Mark and Ray Hanna . Two of the very best of the good guys . May they rest in peace, but thank goodness we have these wonderful videos of them both. Respect

  • From 51 seconds in to about ... who cares /......this is just awesome. Beautiful!

  • every time you see or hear anything to do with a Spitfire you just have to feel sorry for the Hurricane, the ugly sister if there was ever one, much as I love both :-)

  • @foxiebox2

    whattttt???? they wernt uglyyy.

thery were functional and Id fly one of them alot more than i would a Spit,

more room in the cockpit and better visibility.

  • The noise makes the Hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

  • My favorite aircraft by far!

  • It's the Spitfire from a Bridge too far!

  • I read a write-up he did...he'd never flown a Spit, but was very experienced in virtually any other type of aircraft--had flown all the US prop models, and a lot of jets. He said it flew as well, if not better than the best general aviation aircaft he'd ever flown, and had no vices in the air whatsoever, much lighter on the controls than he expected. He said it was "instant seduction".

  • Not my favoritebut it is a beautiful aircraft, you Brits sure knew how to build them!

  • There is no finer sound. The sound of a Merlin never fails to bring a lump to the throat.

  • Brings tears to my eyes these God-talks...so which one of the thousands of Gods, ghosts or gremlins known to mankind are to be involved then? Has each design it's own?

  • I know world war 2 fighter planes werent the widest things in the world but that fuselage is SOOOO narrow!!!

  • i always find the sound of a spitfire merlin engine beautiful, but there is something very haunting about it too-it is the ICONIC aircraft, which perhaps/probably, changed the course of world history in its time as a ww2 fighter

    -beautifully flown Mark

    -RIP

  • Mr. Hanna died young but ooohhh what a time he had !

  • that dam thing is so intimidating when its flying low like that. beautiful machine. beautiful flying. RIP

  • Rest in peace Mark, Spitfire was flown beautifully,

  • @mazerhat Yes and they showed how fallible the Junkers 88 and Heinkel 111 was. They were also easy to repair if they got riddled with bullets, unlike the spitfire which had to go through extensive repairs. What ever you say or discuss about these aircraft, they both saved our bacon from Nazi tyranny.

  • The most wonderful word in the English language is Spitfire. We are so thankful to those who were assoiciated with this lovely machine, which of course was nothing but a murderous monster to the enemy xxxxx

  • I had the privilage to watch Mark and his father Ray put two spits through their paces some years ago at Warbirds over Wanaka.I have not seen anything like it since. They were the best display/stunt pilots in the world.RIP.

  • 12 people lost familly to this beastie and her skilled pilots.

  • Having just read Geoffrey Wellum "First Light" it will truly bring you closer to this magnificent aircraft and those incredible pilots........... a fine book for those fine pilots

    george fryer blewbury england

  • Just had a tear roll down my face!

  • Beautiful plane..... very graceful

  • I feel bad for all those 109 pilots

  • @legoman5188 Mmmmmm.....I don't.

  • @RattytheSecond Lol true, they dont deserve people having feelings for them other than hate.

  • RIP Mark Hanna !!!

    Wonderful airplane !!

  • The Mk IX was an interim development of the Mk V to fit the Merlin 60 with a 2 stage supercharger adding 300hp and 70mph at 30,00 feet in direct response to the appearance of the Focke Wulf 190A which outclassed the MkV. It was very successful and ended up being the most numerous mark. IMHO the most beautiful aircraft built flown by one of the all time great display pilots. Seeing/hearing it (or any Spitfire) sends a shiver down my spine and brings a tear to my Aussie eye!

  • It's difficult to compare aircraft from different points during a period of rapid development. To quote performance figures for a spitfire (or any other aircraft) without reference to a model or time is reckless. The facts are that the Spitfire was designed as a short range home defense fighter in 1937 and went on to developed into 24 marks and numerous sub marks including long range PR, ground attack, low and high altitude and even carrier ops. It's fundamental design was outstanding.

  • 11 Germans don't like this video :p

I however LOVE it. What a wonderful plane, please please please let me win the Euro millions triple rollover jackpot!! *sigh*

  • The Yanks conveniently forget of course that the Mustang was initially ordered by the RAF in 1940 and designed to their specifications. While we can argue about which was the best aircraft just remember that they were both, essentially, British.

  • @Tigh123 Also it was a Spitfire (Merlin) engine in the mustang anyway lol It was to slow so they purchased the Merlin engine and the rest is history.

  • @Tigh123 Even the name 'Mustang' was named after the British purchasing corporation.

  • @Tigh123 The P51-B was produced primarily for export to Britain. The British specified the Allison engines which did not perform well at high altitude. Thus the aicraft was used more for ground attack than as a fighter. British engineers specified the shortened fuselage, teardrop canopy, Merlin engine etc which resulted in the P51-D the "classic" Mustang, which was essentially a new British designed aircraft. The Air Cobra was so poor the RAF flew one sortie and withdrew them.

  • I grew up beside an airfield that every year used to hold an air-show. Every year I was blessed to hear and see a Spitfire flying right over the roof of my house. There is nothing compares to that Rolls Royce Merlin V12 on full throttle.

  • Best footage, seriously amazing. When you type "Spitfire" this is what you want to see! Thankyou so much, that was so good,

  • the thing snarls like a big jungle cat when it goes past - lovely

  • I don't understand...is it just a man thing? Why does watching and listening to this with the sound up loud bring tears to my eyes...?

I suppose it's because so many young men before Hanna gave everything they had to fly these for us...just as he did.

  • S**T Watch with full screen and high volume at 1:42.

  • would you realy let an 18/19 year old in something like that today.....?

  • i had the great pleasure of being invited by RAY HANNA to help push this plane out of it's hanger along with my father & be the only 2 people to watch as he did a very similar display to this one by his son. WOW, one of the greatest experiences of my life.

  • beautiful design !! makes me proud to be a paki.

  • @bondsee Paki? like Pakistani? What does Pakistan has to do with this plane? (With all due respespect) Peace.. =)

  • While working on a light aircraft in a hangar, I put my paperwork on a convenient dusty 'table' in the shape of a tailplane, rather concealed by dirt, and the fuselage covered with tarpaulin. A while later, I paid more attention and discovered it was a Spitfire in Israeli markings due for rebuild. It felt as though I had put something on a church altar without noticing!! Of course I apologised to the aircraft.... but what a strange feeling!

  • Lovely. Kept the plane in the frame well. Notice he is flying below the birds.....

Sound is not as good as the real thing, when the 'plane is there in front of you, you can usually hear the whine of the supercharger.

  • One of the best sounding machines of all time. No Doubt

  • Went to duxford today and saw this exact

    Plane being worked on

Beautiful aircraft, better then the mustang because it had more meaning and stands for more

  • Music to my ears!!!!

  • The bf109's main advantage was they had fuel injection before the spitfire did. The spitfire had to be a better plane because when Hitler asked Goering'''what must I give you to defeat England,'' Goering said '' 1,000 spitfires.'' Don't anyone ever underestimate the aussie soldier. No Hun ever stood up to the Australian bayonet charge. K.J. Edmonton.

  • @290948kenwong No, that was Adolf Galland who, when asked by Goring what they needed to win the Battle of Britain, replied, "I should like an outfit of Spitfires for my squadron." Which reportedly made Goring furious!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Love this palne and the sound of it will always stay with you I'm so lucky over here in New Zealand to have seen a spitfire a few times inside of it i and see it fly at our air shows and also the Hurricane both sweet planes. So many Kiwis flew both of them in WW2 and did a good job of it to , Keeping the UK safe

  • if i was a german i would have shat all over my messerschmitt cockpit.

  • @youtoobeiz4loosers

spitfire is a wonderfull plane, but so is the Messerschmitt Bf109,

what's the real difference? think it's more about the pilot, and less about the plane.

  • @NickFennemaPK

I was just typing pointless banter...but since you bring it up. i believe i'm right in thinking that the spitfires were a lot more nimble, fast and thus harder to shoot. strangely the spitfires didnt shoot down as many luftwaffe as some others, it's just been remembered due to its innovation, image and portrayal in films etc.

  • @youtoobeiz4loosers

hmm... It commonly said that the spitfire was the first plane to match the Bf109 in performance. German pilots considered their Bf109 the best bird to fly in, the britisch pilot considered their Spit the best plane. Honestly, having not flown a '109 nor a Spit, I can't properly assess their performance, but if both sides thought they had a plane better then their enemies, neither one of them could be really inferior or superior.

  • @NickFennemaPK the deciding factor was due to the fact we were closer to home. if a german pilot is shot down and parachutes he either lands in the water or in england where he will become a POW but an allied pilot parachutes and gets to the nearest base and gets on the next available plane...

  • @youtoobeiz4loosers

that is one of the deciding factors in the battle of britain. Another deciding factor is the shift from destroying the RAF on the ground to bombing london. Whereas your factor isn't a strategic error, this shift proved a lethal one.

And yet it's my opinion that the spit and the bf109 eachothers equals in flight performance ;)

    Nick

  • @NickFennemaPK As far as I understand, the Bf109 had the better speed at high altitudes, but the Spit had the quicker reactions at high speeds and therefore the better manoeuvrability. However, there were many more small differences, each tipping the scale slightly one way or the other, and of course the experienced pilot was able to take advantage of those in his favour

  • @youtoobeiz4loosers Spitfires busied the Bf109's so the Hurricanes were left alone and could concentrate on shooting down bombers, and the number of Hurricane squadrons was almost twice that of Spitfires. And I suppose dogfights at high speed don't present easy targets.

  • Goring to his subordinate officers sometime during the Battle of Britain...

"What can I do to help you destroy the cursed British?"

    Their answer?

    "...Holen Sie uns Spitfires...!"

    God bless England, and Rolls-Royce!

  • never in the field of human conflict , is so much owened by so many to so few.

  • That sound!!!

  • That and the Hurricane saved England! What a piece of art!

  • Million dollar aircraft....vs all those birds flying around ; needs to find a more bird free area.....please, those 90 degree banked turns need "little" more ALTITUDE...

  • To the eleven people that dislike this video, you have no soul, and no understanding of this machine, or its significance. For without it and the brave few that flew them, and gave their lives, quite likely you would not exist today, or maybe youre german? :)

  • I would like to say, Mark Hanna was 1 of a few, for those that new Mark i'm sure would agree.

We lost an exallent warbird flyer, But he now fly's with a differant set of wing's. thanks for sharing

  • For all those saying that the German pilots were the best, blah, blah, blah... I hate to say it, but that's not what they show at the Discovery Chanel here in the USA.

In fact, they were saying that the Mustang had 50 Miles per hour more of speed than the Germans & could turn in shorter turns. Also, they show when an American pilot goes all the way up as a rocket while the German followed. The German plane stalled first & the American pilot blew the German in pieces.

  • @argent2020 - "but that's not what they show at the Discovery Chanel here in the USA." - May well be, but who says Discovery Channel does always tell you the truth? Just think about it: even in those days Germany was smaller by far than the UK, France, the US and Russia together, which means: they were simply outnumbered by the Allies, so even the best fighter pilots in the world couldn't have changed that. And when it comes to planes: just compare any allied fighter from WWII to the Me-262...

  • @dvldi I know you're right. The American pride sometimes blind us, mostly because we're the greatest. Just imagine this, Rusia & EU together (As well as Japan & China) owes America big time.

Against the Germans, US armed Rusia & China to defend temselves. US liberated France & Italy then help out rebuilding EU including Germany & Japan as well. With time, even Israel owe to the US (Remember the six days war?). & last but not least, the UK won over Argentina in 1982 thanks to the US.

  • @argent2020 Yeah, but over time the US have supported a lot of dictators for their own interests and concerning Germany: you seem to forget that until 1990 there was a part of that country, which not only got no support from the US but was fought by them (you know: the former "communist" part).

My point? No, the USA aren't "the greatest". I know you are told so in the media, but all that support for other countries wasn't because of humanity, but for the (mostly political) interest of the US.

  • Those amazing Brits ¡¡ Iknow now where came from the Aston Martin´s exhaust sound¡¡ Great Airplane

  • The German's nightmares became reality when meeting the Mustangs!!!.

  • @argent2020 Stupid statement. German planes were equal and better. It was pilot performance and air superiority. Most Allied engagements had the Germans outnumbered 10 to 1. Read a little and u will learn the very best pilots of all time are German.

  • @Scharfschutzen1

Actually, the reason most German aces had such high scores was for 2 reasons. Firstly, Britain had a policy of "resting" its aces periodically, Germany did not. Secondly, all of the top scoring Germans did several months tour of duty on the Russian front, where planes and pilots were so poor that it was in essence a turkey shoot, allowing them to quickly rack up a high score.

  • @TheCheshireCowboy in reality most of the Brit Aces were wiped out by the German pilots....but u already knew this.

  • @Scharfschutzen1

Yer well my dads bigger than your dad! My dog would eat yours.

  • @Scharfschutzen1

Some were indeed killed by German aces, but this was early on in the war when the germans had the advantage of up to date and battle honed tactics from the spanish civil war. I think you will find that many other british aces were actually posted to OTU training squadrons and became instructors, with the exception of Bader who was shot down in error by a Hurricane over france.

  • Comment removed

  • @Scharfschutzen1

Furthermore, whilst German planes outnumbered British ones at the beiginning of the war, the Spitfire has a tighter radius of turn and a lower wing loading than an ME109, enabling it to turn much more rapidly and get behind the 109, giving it the edge in a dogfight. Further into the war, the Germans had superiority with planes such as the FW190 but by the time the Mustang and the Typhoon/Tempest entered service, the Germans were outnumbered, out of pilots and on the retreat

  • @TheCheshireCowboy Furthermore, there was no retreat. While England was at it's knees the Fuhrer ordered to bomb the cities after a Brit bomber unloaded on Berlin thus saving them from capitulation.....but u already knew this.

  • @Scharfschutzen1

Actually this was a huge stroke of luck on the part of the RAF. a lost lancaster accidentally unloaded its bombs on Berlin instead of the industrial target it was supposed to raid. at this time neither side wanted to bomb civilians. however, hitler was so enraged by this that he ordered all airfield raids be switched to raids on london (a huge tactical error), saving the RAF (with 2 weeks to spare according to dowding) and allowing it to rebuild its strength

  • @Scharfschutzen1

And by retreat, I meant when the entire german forces were constantly retreating late on into the war after the allied invasion of europe, pushing the axis forces back into germany.

  • @Scharfschutzen1 The german aces suffered much worse than the British ones. Practically every "experten" was killed in the later stages of the war, due to overwhelming numbers of american escort fighters as well as suicidal deployment tactics forced on them by high command. I suggest before this debate goes any further that you read the book "Luftwaffe fighter aces" by Mike Spick. You will find that it sets right many common beliefs like yours and introduces many home truths

  • @TheCheshireCowboy British were good pilots, better on a whole than the American. The German pilot was constantly at combat until the end, one way or another with little rest like the Brit. Luv that Spitfire.

  • soooooo glad there is'nt any music over this vid, those 12 pots sound fantastic

  • Who the hell are the 11 idiots who have given this the thumbs down?

  • best thing made by man

  • The greatest danger flying this bird must be suddenly finding out you're holding your own boner instead of the stick ...awesome bird! ;))

  • Glad you found this vid Cheeky !!!

The sound of the Spitfire engine, magnificent, to die for. Every young boy and man finds it's charms hard to resist !! lol And what's more..... It's British !!!!!! So proud!!

  • dramatic sky there at 1:35

  • What a great sight.. (unless of course you were a German fighter pilot)

  • Spitfire -Aesthetically, the most perfect aircraft of all Time.

-Glad to get the incontestible truth out of the way. -Pheww!

    The Nazi's hated Spitfire...God knows....

  • I have spent a year or two searching YouTube watching Spitfire videos, this is without doubt the best I have come across yet, I only wish it had not taken so long to find. Simply beautiful…

  • @lupo0144 A truly great comment Sir. Very true. Together with the Hurricane, the Spitfire has to be the most important piece of machinery ever created, as it effectively stopped Hitler's plans to invade Britain. Together with the formation of Radar Stations along the coast and its operators, and the nerve and skill of the young Spitfire and Hurricane pilots of various nationalities, this beauty is a true legend. Spitfires don't need any backing music. That sweet Merlin says it all.

  • The hair's on the back of my neck stand up every time I watch any video on youtube of the Spitfire.... It was made by the common man and woman, to be flown by young men who had barely left school. This must be the Greatest thing ever created by man You can keep your fancy Cars and your fancy Architecture, your Paintings from all over the World...... You'll never be anywhere near it!

  • @StephanusTacitus God had nothing to do with it. It was R.J. Mitchell who designed it and the R.A.F. fighter command who at the time procured it. I agree though that it's the most beautiful aircraft ever produced =)

  • @navnig R.J. Mitchell is God lol

  • @navnig Someone rather famous said a long time ago ,"God is within you" I would add, above you, below you,you are like a fish swimming through God.

God is the substratum of the Universe, of every atom, not the ego.

God had everything to do with it.

PS, I love Spitfires.....the sight and sound is the most beautiful plane ever.

How did Mark RIP pass away?

  • @eaglerock999 He died in Spain in September 1999, he was flying an Hispano Buchon, a Spanish-built version of the Second World War German Messerschmitt Bf109 fighter. He crashed on landing and it caught fire, he was taken to hospital but died the following day.

  • @navnig its shame that Mitchell never lived to see the aircraft finished and what it would become

  • @StephanusTacitus lol... yeah, that's it. spirit of god in a war machine. where do people come up with this crap?i affirm the spitfire was definitely the best secular WWII aircraft.

  • @StephanusTacitus ahhhhahahahahaahaahahahahahahahahahaha ahhhhhhhhhh ahahahahaha ... stop... ahahahhhhahahahahaha hahahahahahahhahahaha... hahahahahahahhahaha

    Oh god... ahahahahahahhhaaaaaaahahahahahaha
