I heard this song in September of 89. It was Norfolk Virgina, And I met a man named Randall Claire Thompson. He handed me a tape for my ride home to Florida. It was about two months later I heard he died. This song will forever hold a place in my heart. How I wish he was still here. Amazing man, amazing friend..

When my grandmother passed about 2 years ago, my family decided to clear out her old pantry which was becoming a catch-all room. Out of the blue we found a bag with coloring books and crayons, dated Aug. 27, 2001. (Today is Aug. 27, 2011) She gave me those things when I was 5, and after I got tired of using them she put them in that bag. I still have a lot of pages to color in, but I'll keep those going down, the line, because she saved those... miss you grandma... I wish you were still here...

This song is so perfect it defies description. The sadness and unfulfilled promise of Syd Barrett is also a metaphor of so many of our own lives. Like Brad Pitt saying in "Fight Club" we were told we were gonna be 'rock stars and sports heroes' couldn't have been more true. From family, friends, and people from all walks of life encourage our eventual failures, because everyone wants to be rich, adored and in control of their own lives with nobody to answer to. It's so rare that anyone makes it.
