  • What a stupid gimmick...it's neat if you like staring at the wall while you're watching a movie, but this is not something I'd ever feel like I'm missing out by not having...wouldn't be worth it to buy low quality Philips anyway, especially not for something so gimmicky. They should make the slogan "Ambilight: The TV for ricers" what with all the extra unnecessary lighting.

  • @Shintsu2 once you try it in person you'll understand, i think it's amazing, just don't get it from philips

and i'm like 9 months late on this oh well

  • THANK you!! Now i nsee how eye strain is caused. Rather than spending like $1000+ on a tv like this, I'll go out and buy some Dioder led ambient lighting strips from Ikea. ^.^

    thx man

  • once you have it, all tv's you view that dont have it seem cheap. Its a legit and powerful experience.

  • @halo2710 Couldn't agree more with you. Everytime i visit a friends place to watch a movie it makes me sad to not have the ambilight effect.

Then as i get home, i get a big big smile when i turn my tv on :)

  • how come they don't sell ambilight in USA anymore??

    :(

  • confuse to choose Sony Bravia or Philips Aurea Ambilight

  • Hey I brought 42' ambilight, the major problem is my back wall behind the Panel is Megenta and I can't see changes in ambilight color. do you suggest to have white wall behind the TV?

  • wicked im buying one ...

  • Wow, I'm gonna get a TV with ambilight. Hehe, I can't beleave he said "Totally awesome" :D

  • i dont understand the point.. its a bit silly to me

  • It looks nice, but its also probaly a total gimmick.

  • I swear by it. It's completely legit. I've had one for 3 yrs and it's incredible for night time movies / TV. generally speaking it's always great but occasionaly a scene will come on it blows your mind and sucks you right in.

  • exactly. i bet you when you play halo 3 and you keep killing people, it will really distract and hurt your eyes with red and green changes really quickly. it might even jam the tv.

  • I like the concept but I actually like feeling like I am at the movies. I could never trade a 12'x 6' HD projector presentation for anything I can carry. If laser light projectors ever make it to market plasmas may only be used for gaming and bedrooms. porn at 150" is scary so plasmas will have there place i guess j/k

  • I might be hating cuz I'm broke and cant afford one but the only valid reason for this is to reduce eye strain. Everything else is marketing bs they came up with in product development. It is cool though. But treat me like an asswipe and try to convince me that this is for immersiveness.

  • We bought a Philips 50" plasma with Ambilight on 3 sides (9731 series)last year. We LOVE watching this TV. Let all the critics say what they want about Philips. I'm VERY happy with my purchase. My only complaint is that the remote supplied with the TV isn't a universal remote unless you're usingit with Philips/Magnavox devices. Bad decision on Philips' part, if you ask me.

  • I Like The Ambilight it Makes the screen look bigger

  • pimp my tv - thats basically summing it up

neon on tv's just like installing neons on ricers.

so all in all - can it be considered a ricer TV?
