that seems stupid as or maybe i don't get it... will the robot hand have to do exactly what the other real hand is doing?? all the time? Mirroring it? how does this technology benefit robot hands?
Man Camaro, your moronic, and normally i would say "No offense" and state an argument behind it.
But Yes i want to offend you here, because the alphabet you use is also just a bunch of scribbles. Only difference is that we have less scribbles.
I would also like to state that i'm dutch not japanese. Besides i think Japanese have a much cooler looking alphabet, if you want to see something that looks like scribbles look at Arabic. That looks like a continues line with some dots.
The Japanese formally use characters; they do not use an alphabet. They do have representations of sounds, which they use to spell English words, but they usually use characters.
An alphabet is just a word used to express the "characters/scribbels" used by any language to express their language on paper.
Doesn't matter what language it is, as long as that language can be written it has an alphabet.
I know what the character charts look like (katakana and hirogana) but just because its on a chart doesn't mean its not an alphabet if that's what you mean.
This is interesting.. Green lights represent "consciousness", and when it looks at the other robot in the stead of the reflection of self, the 'conscious' robot seems uncertain by blinking both green and red led's. bla-dios
We were never programmed to recognize ourselves in mirrors. We recognize ourselves in mirrors because it's a byproduct of intelligence, common-sense. That's something robots don't have.
Most animals don't have the requisite intelligence for it either.
Right simple robots can only attempt to simulate human behavoir. It would require AGI to actually look in the mirror and recognize itself the same was we do.
This is genius.. Everyone shooting this down is an idiot... they just dont get it, or ar not really thinking about it. Conciousness is all about recognizing information and reacting to it.. A reaction of self recognition is a very good start. I gave thumbs down to the highest rated comments..
@jennymueller the human brain is programmed by evolution. These scientists just bypassed the evolution part. it is still rudimentary consiousness, albiet artificial
Interesting, but does it develop an internal model of itself? Igor Aleksander at Imperial College London has been working on Artificial Consciousness for years with some interesting results.
the hell with limbs i wan a robot slave

i don't think this is consciousnesses... its self awareness, or awareness of space. right?
GabrielGroverMan 1 year ago
Its just a programmed robot. It's impossible to create conciousness.

@cougarbart good point sir... i wonder how we 'evolved' this trait of self awareness if it wasn't programmed into us by a Programmer.

I don't recognize myself in a mirror. Should I be happy or sad?
n3wby001 3 years ago
it´s just a simple program on a robot. consciousness is recognizing yourself in a mirror WITHOUT being programmed to.

oh really??
Singularum 3 years ago
No, we are programmed, the language is in "Evolution by Natural Selection"
Or if your one of many creationist, then you believe some god programed us, either way.

The last part is kind of interesting... but you'd only be able to "feel" with the new limb if you maintained eye contact with it.
I think robot consciousness is much more likely to come about from problem-solving software, not robotics, though.

interesting video, but it is FAAAR away from conciousness
