Thanks for uploading this. I have a tape of this that I recorded from a friend of mine about 15 years ago, but my tape runs out during this song. Drives me nuts every time.
this was the first bootleg i ever heard of zeppelin, purchased in a back street shop in Dublin, long since gone circa '91..i remember stickin this into my walkman at the time and just walking around the place mesmerised. Was definitlety this boot as i remember vivdly the vocal harmonies which were rare in zep e.g., baaa ba ba ba ba, na na na naaa!!..(just before the finish sequence in above vid)..another tune on it plant started it with 'here we go round the mulberry bush'..
In their first four years of existence Zeppelin routinely turned in performances that were so astounding that those audience members (some of whom eventually formed major bands ie Aerosmith, Van Halen, Kiss, & many more) still recall it with absolute reverence and awe. No rock band has ever approached Led Zeppelin in their prime.
@TheSanityInspector burned my thumb that way. why do you think zippos were so popular. zippos, that's the way to flame at any concert. 'cept now no building allow smoking, let alone a lighter, so people use their mobile phones, it is just not the same.
Here you can find the ultimate proof why they are the best band that ever lived, no other band could top this.Beatles, Stones you name it, no one would play like this. Zoso here at the top of his power !! at 2:10 furious and heavy...pure genius.
Wow Jimmy is tearing the ever loving shit out of that guitar, and Plant sounds so fresh and powerful. THIS is when they were truely without equals. It is a shame that by the late 70's they were so burned out. Plants voice shot. Jimmy fumbling all over the place with his guitar absolutly WASTED. People that say Zep never performed well live should have a listen to them during the early days. Devistation!
You made my day! :) this version was totally new for me! Thanx so much! Listening the 68-69 performances just make me want to go back in time. I wanna feel what those lucky ones felt who were blessed to see them! However, after a concert like this.... I don't know how they could go back to their "normal" life!
I hear you. Zeppelin was just blowing it up that first year. Anyone who saw them was just tripped out. You have to consider what was going on in early '69. They were so different from what was out there. Did Page meet Hendrix while Jimi was playing in the UK? Just trying to figure what Page's influence was at this point. Cream had done their thing I think. Your right, what an amazing time. Grand Funk put their first two out in 69 as well.
Page said in an interview he never met or jammed with Hendrix . "" Anyway, every time I came back from tour and Hendrix was playing somewhere, I would always say to myself, "Oh, I'm just so exhausted, I'll see him next time." I just put it off and, of course, there ultimately never was a "next time." I'm really, really upset with myself for never seeing him. I really wanted to hear him. ""
@LedPeplum ~ oh yeah, soon as my time machine is finished, it's following zepp around on their first tours. right before they blew up. you could talk to the guys getting refreshments at the concession stand. how crazy would that be?
@LedPeplum ~ well yeah, sure, i don't have a problem with that. personally, i'm more into the music, than how they dress. maybe partying later would be cool. : ) don't forget your v-cam.
@tomitstube I wasn't thinking so much about checking out the wardrobe, but just getting a behind the scenes feel for the personalities. But yes, it's definitely about the music for me too. Have you checked out Conneyfogle's channel? It's the next best thing to being there.
Not trying to be rude, but what Pagey was envisioning was unlike anything anyone else could. He was THE INFLUENCE. Why do you think he left The Yardbirds. The Yardbirds were not what he had in mind as a young guitar god.
you aren't being rude, don't let anyone fool you, page had influences just like everyone else. i know zep was into a lot of the american black blues, like most of the brits were back in the day.
jimmy didn't really leave the yardbirds, they disbanded for various reasons, led zeppelin was actually called the new yardbirds for brief time.
Page didn't really leave the Yardbirds. It was everybody else who really left. Beck split and created his own group and Page obviously did the same, but he didnt leave the Yardbirds. They left him and then, well, the rest is history, but early on, Led Zeppelin was known as "The New Yardbirds".
I knew that. Maybe I Had it backwards, but essentially he envisioned what Led Zeppelin would become, NOT the poppy bubblegum Yardbirds. The Yardbirds were groundbreaking and psychedelic, but Jimmy had other ideas. I think you catch my drift.
Oh I know. I would kill to have seen Led Zeppelin so early or at all really.
You have to feel sorry for the bands they opened for in their early US tour...Iron Butterfly and Vanilla Fudge... getting booed offstage after Led Zeppelin tore shit up onstage like they did.
