@JedwardSurzy4 It's a part of your cultural identity. I am Irish american beginning to learn it. It is one of the few modern big cultural differences that seperates Ireland from UK or US. Be proud to speak it and speak it often.
That's a silly way to look at it. English is part of Irish culture as much as any language of Gaelic origin. Its not a foreign language that the English ethnic group exclusively own. You should probably luck up "most other countries" too and the different groups the formed them, the languages they spoke.
Pretty much in a nutshell he talks of fucking some young girl on the street, wants to see some breasts, fucking her cunt, and fist fucking, oh and doing it like dogs that is the major part. Funny the old man stopped and listened to the "good" music.
mangan comes acros as a rather irritating smart alec . native galwegians don't pay any attention to a hippy backing on drum. most of the people going by aren't from the area. ta Gailimh plodaithe le turasoiri agus eachtrannaigh. ni nach ionadh e nach dtuagann siad aon aird do.
I can understand this but I rarely listen to what singers are saying instead I just groove on the melody and in this case the Sean Nos groove. I probably couldn't sing some of my favourite songs because I don't know the words.
Fainne oir ort! Nil moran Gaeilge agam! haha - afreen lol oops that was dari well done that was funniest thing seen in long time.... Ta Se Go Hiontach!..
people blame the education system for the lack of gaelic spoken .but the problem is most people arent motivated to learn gaelic. if you want to learn any language you have to be motivated to learn i left school at 18 with only a few words. despite many of the best teachers i had being gaelic teachers. in the end i was lazy i am now learning gaelic its a very tricky language but i am getting help off a freind who is fluent which helps
You don't think the education has a little to do with it?
I knew more german after one year than I did with Irish after 8.
If someone doesn't speak it, they should be taught it like other languages....not using poetry....most people can read Irish perfectly but don't have a clue what they're saying.
Gaelscoiles are the way ahead but the current system is a waste. Fooling ourselves into thinking over 350,000 or 400, 000 or whatever it is people speak Irish.
I am currently studying Irish for the leaving cert at ordinary level. I feel that if I had of done it at Higher (which I didn't as I wanted to focus on maths, I want to do science at 3rd level) that I would be leaving school with a much higher standard of Irish.
I know more french after 6 years then I do Irish after 14 years of it? It's down to two things.
Its a sad thought but perhaps if there was some incentive to learn this "useless" language more people would take it up.
As for mé féin, I intend to continue learning Irish to the best of my ability as I continue on after secondary school. If that means visiting the gaeltacht for a year I'm considering it strongly. The same stands for French.
It's a sad day when the only Irish on our Ireland is the consitution.
I only took one semester of the language and am learning it from books and know that he was talking about effing like dogs. I know Galway and any of my relatives there would have known what he was saying but it is like NY, people don't care and just pass by.
My Dad is from Galway and ever since I was young I have longed to be able to speak fluent Irish like him, but he simply didn't have the time to teach me, I know some though. There's seems to be very little learning aids on the market like audio books. My Dad listens to R na G radio station through sky as were in England, and he always hears people from America on there speaking as if they were born in Ireland (in a gealtach any way!). How do they do it? I guess they had parents who taught them?
Irish is such a beautiful language, its so sad the state it is in today.
Clearly there is a problem with the teaching of Irish, if most people learn it up untill 18 and still can barely speak a sentence or two, which seems to be a common thing.
Something needs to change, otherwise Irish is on it's way to becomming a dead language and that would be absolute tragedy! Nevermind saving a bear that's mojo has had it, fuck saving the panda, save the Irish language! Are you with me?!
well, I think that's what's going on in a lot of parts of ireland right now, the attempt to revive and sustain the language. how are you going to change anything yourself?
I'm trying to learn Irish casually and use BYKI dot COMs free product. However, I've been threatening to sign up for online lessons with GAELTALK dot NET as their program looks great to me. Too bad there are no Irish classes taught close to where I live in Orlando Florida.

The method of teaching irish in schools in terrible and the goverment sud start taking more of an intrest in trying 2 incorperate irish alot more ! Cus soon enough they will just stop teaching it and the language will die out completley !
how is it taught wrong? If people come out of school fluent then they must be doing something right. It's an inherent fear that stops people learning it, that and eejits telling them it's too hard and taught wrong!
i was in catalonia recently where everybody speaks catalan and spanish and a local was shocked by how little irish is spoken in ireland when he visited ireland
As a woman of Maori - Irish background I assert my right to my dual identity. I proudly speak Te Reo Maori and would love to learn Irish. It was the language of my grandmother and I know from her stories and from my Maori family how the English tried to erase our identities. I recently visited Ireland and was shocked with the lack of spoken Irish compared with Te Reo here in Aotearoa. Please make every effort to speak your language, if you don't do so who will?
This program is great altogether! it has really opened my eyes to how anglicised Ireland truely is!
i feel ashamed to say that as an Irish man i can't speak our native tongue, me thinks its time to reclaim Irish as our first language! not saying that it should be our only language cos God knows we wouldn't get too far with it but as a nation we need to re-assert our identity.
Just proves that Irish is taught in a very stupid way. Nobody learns it properly cause we're forced to at a young age. I think people would learn Irish better if it were optional as then they would be more motivated to learn it.
