My wife and i keep looking at videos and thinking this is something we need to take in in the future. We both believe in people just needing the place to be what ever they want to be in the real world. Personally i am a huge fan of interactive art. I'd spend most of my time looking at everything and asking how and why from the artists. But the big question i'd have for them is, Where is all these amazing huge projects kept until next year?

From my perspective, Burning Man seems a like gigantic rave from the early '90s, Woodstock, Wiccerman festival and Sodom and Gomorrah all rolled into one. But instead of being for a bunch of teenagers and college-aged people, it's for old people who are going through a midlife crisis. You're not 18 anymore, and you never will be again! And getting high on drugs won't make you any younger either. I've been asked to go many times, and each time I say no!

Much of the money is given out to artists as grants for large and expensive art projects. The camp I stayed with this year, for example, received $25K for two art projects. 100% of profits from sales of ice and coffee (the only things you can buy there) are donated to the local community of Gerlach, the closest town.

BM is not just one big Extasy rave. There's a jazz club there, a bluegrass camp, a reggae bus, lots of variety. No video or conversation can describe exactly what BM is, you just have to see it for yourself(or just go to Disneyland, again...yawn)

@airsoftsamtheman Nope, tickets start at $225 and work their way up to $300 the longer you wait. The event has to cost money now because 45,000 people attend and organization is a must. That said, living in Reno, NV., my wife and I can easily spend $300 in a weekend out on the town with friends. Once you are in the event, people aren't allowed to sell things. You can only buy coffee and ice. So, it costs about as much as camping does once you are inside.
