I can't imagine how terrified the people of Sodom were when God rained down fire from heaven. I'm sure their joy turned to uncontrollable fear and terror when they realized their doom was sealed. I don't wish that on ANYONE..
I can't believe that the State of Nevada allows this garbage! If Gerlach wasn't the poorest shithole in Nevada, you hippies would have to stay in California. This event is nothing but an excuse to be a homosexual on drugs. Yea, lets all go out in the desert and be homos and get fucked up on drugs. Fuck that. I have an idea, the Air Force should be allowed to test nuclear weapons only during burning man and only on the playa! Hey mannnnnn, it's just art. Our bombs are just art man.
@bucssharktooth ya and why do you care? let us gay drugged up hippies have fun. Its in a desert so that you can stay in your condo and live your life. We aren't harming anyone are we? No. Im guessing you work at a pets mart or an office? Thats what i thought.
The coolest thing in the world is to watch people dancing at night with glow sticks all over their bodies, while high on acid. The greatest thing I've ever witnessed.
My wife and i keep looking at videos and thinking this is something we need to take in in the future. We both believe in people just needing the place to be what ever they want to be in the real world. Personally i am a huge fan of interactive art. I'd spend most of my time looking at everything and asking how and why from the artists. But the big question i'd have for them is, Where is all these amazing huge projects kept until next year?
From my perspective, Burning Man seems a like gigantic rave from the early '90s, Woodstock, Wiccerman festival and Sodom and Gomorrah all rolled into one. But instead of being for a bunch of teenagers and college-aged people, it's for old people who are going through a midlife crisis. You're not 18 anymore, and you never will be again! And getting high on drugs won't make you any younger either. I've been asked to go many times, and each time I say no!
@ggchi How refreshing it is that young people like you have such open-minds. In fact, if you ever went to BM (which I sincerely hope you don't as you sound like a real buzzkill) you would find people of absolutely all ages. BM is for people who say KNOW, you keep saying NO honey. I know who's having more fun! xxx
The number of haters with their misconceptions make it all the better when i'm there out on the playa next year experiencing it all over again while they are at home masturbating to Justin Beiber.
I don't know if i'd really want to get laid there. I bet there's a lot of smelly beaver in that heat. Not to mention the diseases that must be spreading when people walk around saying hello to total strangers by kissing them. At least one of those people is sure to have herpes.
@ThirdWorldCantina a lil bit but they have to pay for the extra police, 4 dollars a day for each person out there, rent the land. it does take a good bit of money. but burningman corporation in a 10 million dollar buisness now.
@ThirdWorldCantina Have you ever produced an event this size? The expenses are sky high. Just to rent that patch of earth from the BLM is about $3 million for 1 week. Do the math, no one is getting rich. By the way: it's common for people to pay $300 for a ticket to see the Rolling Stones do a 3-hour show. I'd rather have a super fun week in the desert.
@ThirdWorldCantina: The BRC LLC doesn't make much profit. As a matter of fact, they are currently converting to a 503 non-profit organization. Much of the money is given out to artists as grants for large and expensive art projects. The camp I stayed with this year, for example, received $25K for two art projects. 100% of profits from sales of ice and coffee (the only things you can buy there) are donated to the local community of Gerlach, the closest town.
Try again. With 50,000 people attending (and climbing) the costs associated with organizing this event are astronomical. Any extra "profit" after the operating expenses is shared with artists and the nearest town of Gerlach, Nevada.
@ThirdWorldCantina Actually they give grants to artists and the cost is huge. If profit was the motive they'd be selling merchandise booze and food, like Glastonbury and all the other over-hyped commercial festivals in the world. Yet no-one seems to go, "Yeah, that Glastonbury festival, somebody must be making MONEY off that!"
@SandStormPunk I'm sure many gays go to other festivals and ask Why All The Straightness. BM is not a gay fest, it's gay friendly. BM is not a nudist fest, but people have the option. BM is not just one big Extasy rave. There's a jazz club there, a bluegrass camp, a reggae bus, lots of variety. No video or conversation can describe exactly what BM is, you just have to see it for yourself(or just go to Disneyland, again...yawn)
@airsoftsamtheman Nope, tickets start at $225 and work their way up to $300 the longer you wait. The event has to cost money now because 45,000 people attend and organization is a must. That said, living in Reno, NV., my wife and I can easily spend $300 in a weekend out on the town with friends. Once you are in the event, people aren't allowed to sell things. You can only buy coffee and ice. So, it costs about as much as camping does once you are inside.
looks like a bung of fag liberal hippies who are wasting money made by conservatives LOL what has american come to? Its almost sickening. I'm not closed minded but this is just a ridiculous waste
@Exodus3003 no sir, you are VERY close minded. just because it's not your idea of a good time doesn't mean you have to bash it with your bigoted opinions.
@Exodus3003@Exodus3003 *yawn* Conservatives should make all of the money, they sure as hell take enough of it. It's laughable you use "fag" "liberal" and "hippies" and then say your not close-minded. I work and I am going two weeks from now. If they were doing this in your city, then you would be whining about "our children" so if you are uptight about sex (like most Americans even though they are all doing it) and don't do drugs (like many Americans) then just own it.
@franz0woyzeck these people who "don't do drugs" they in fact do drugs through anti-depressant, tobacco and ALCOHOL!!! All these conservative are hypocrites....!!!
ADOLF HITLER WAS A REAL HIPPY - Vegetarian, No drugs, No Alcohol, Environmentally Friendly, Anti Animal Cruelty, Socialist, Pro-Tibet, Pagan...
We should invite him at Burning Man (and he has a lot of skills in "Burning Men" !!!)
@Exodus3003 BTW, you want a disaster just have a bunch of heterosexual conservative proletariats. At least the burners are environmentally friendly, have strict rules about litter, pick up after themselves and you don't have to worry about 20 or 30 murders because some drunk dumbass grabbed or raped some guy's wife or girlfriend.
@tuckersmitt It "ain't" all hippy dippy out there. And seriously, $300 is a lot of money to you? It's a one week event and people can't sell things inside the event. Dude, you probably spend at least 50 bucks for 2 hours at one of your monster truck shows (kidding). Take it from a guy with a lot of conservative views and would never be confused for a hippie, this video represents one view of Burning Man. You can make an opinion from a video but you can't fathom the event without going.
@Exodus3003 thank you for your views, seriously. If the people from burning man stood for their principles they would ignore your post, and go about their day. They wouldn't reply all butt hurt, and stuff. That is the truth.
@Exodus3003 Ha ha Exodus, I'm from Reno, NV so Burning Man is not far away. I hear comments like yours from ONLY people who have never been. This video just represents a fraction of what Burning Man is. I am an independent leaning toward more conservative views at least economically but otherwise I can care less what people do as long as it doesn't affect me. I go every year. Even CEO's of major companies go. Huge mix of demographics. Burning Man = fucking rad.
@Exodus3003 the war in Irak is a far bigger waste of money made by liberals and conservative....and many conservative made money on the tax payer money by overcharging the government (corruption in the army, mercenaries...etc)
@Exodus3003 but i agree with you burning man just look like a big drug party....people should be more responsible and have higher goals in life than getting wasted...they indeed look like a big WASTE
good time ....... if you're gay.
