The clariifiCATION ON THE NAME IS HELPFUL . My Sudanese friend described it to the best of his ability at the time. We are working together to build another instrument, as unfortunately his was broken after loaning it to an acquantance..anyone know where we might buy one?
These lyres, although slightly diffferent in them selves are played all along the East African countries. Egypt,Sudan Kenya Somalia Ethiopia and up in Jordan and over in Yemen.
Lovely my friend! Looks like the East African Nyatiti/Ndongo lyre! I bought a tiny one from Kenya this march from a local market...but the sound is very sweet! Thanks for the video!

You call it a rababa, but that is a Tambura. The rababa is the single (or two) stringed instrument, played with a bow (rababa means bowed)

It is lovely to hear that he has to tune with his ear... the tuner doesnt work.
The micro- tones used here should be known somewhere.
Does anyone know the tuning?

I have a friend who will return from the Nuba Mountains in August. Hopefully he will have a new round of pictures and video and a new story to tell.
