As far as actual sound or whatever goes(not taking money into perspective) which do you guys think sounds better, MXR ZW38 or MXR M-134 Stereo Chorus?
I’ve been using this chorus for a few months and really like it. It really thickens out distorted tones. It can be in your face when running direct or subtle through the effects loop. I prefer the subtle approach for just adding texture. I have a few fancy boutique chorus padels that sound great when playing clean. But none of them look as cool as the Black Label!
I love you Zakk but I'm gonna have to stick with my MXR stereo chorus...figures I would dish out 150.00 for a chorus pedal than have him come out with one 1/3 of the price right after.
The Black Label Chorus is sort of a rip off the boss CE-5 that zakk used, this might be better, i'd have to compare them in person, AND the Zylde Overdrive is sort of a rip off the Boss SD-1, only a lot smoother.
Agreed most signature stuff sucks, they usually say they will emulate artists' sounds but just look at the Wylde overdrive, it doesn't emulate anything, it's just an overdrive pedal that works the way Zakk Wylde wanted it. I think Dunlop and MXR are doing a good job with their signature stuff. (my friends got the digitech clapton crossroads pedal, sounds like shit, not really useful for anything, this on the other hand looks way better than the boss chorus pedals, constructed better at least)
@lesshowerrings - yeah, I agree. MXR & Dunlop gear is great, but the whole artist things get tedious... from ANY company. Zakk used to use a BOSS SD-1... I wonder if his sig o/d is just the same thing with a new paint job?
@tony93666 Well he probably got rid of some mids or something like that but you are correct. I wouldn't buy something just because it's got some guy I like's name on it but this pedal? Analog circuitry, true bypass, more tone shaping capabilities and a better swtich than the boss chorus pedals, all at a pretty cheap price, I'm probably gonna buy this (I don't even like Zakk wylde that much lol)
And no I don't work for dunlop or mxr unfortunately.
I don't get the people that don't want to buy something because it's somebodies signature gear. So freaking what? Does that change anything about the device?
Anyway, it seems to be a cool pedal, nice looks, tone, true bypass and a relatively low price.
@veers0r - yeah, 'sig gear' usually means the same thing at higher prices... I wouldn't buy anything with Wylde's name on it due to the scam he was a willing part of - then claimed he didn't know anything about, despite posing for photos and running the thing from his own website(!), all the while filing a lawsuit to get his cut of the dough... yeah, right.
This Pedal Sounds Nice and I Like the Arrangement of the 5 Knobs but i don't Like Signature Stuff, it's Like a step to Get Zakk's tone! But I Like to Get Eviscerator's Tone, My Own Signature Tone!
@DrEviscerator666 He probably uses the stereo chorus anyway -- that's what I use, and you can get SOOO many different vibes out of it. Plus the signal path is split which sends the effect through BOTH lines -- to bounce the chorus to two different amps.
@HackerGuitarist its a chorus pedal. so if you can hit a pinch right then it should work. but its not gonna make you hit a zakk harmonic or something like that
@HackerGuitarist Pedals don't do pinch harmonics. You do. That said, I think what you really mean is, "Will this pedal enhance or muffle my pinch harmonics?" If you're doing your part, you'll hear the harmonics just fine. It shouldn't muffle them.
@HackerGuitarist ,The One That Make the Pinch Harmonics Is Your Thumb and Pick! But the Chorus Boost The Octaves and Harmonics on the Guitar and Make Them Sound Wicked and Insane When You Do Them. Though if you don't know the technique to do the pinch harmonics, you ain't getting nowhere.
@Shyuum Yeah, I thought that after posting. Mr Zakk does indeed overuse his artificial harmonics -- especially since his heavy gauge strings and dropped tuning bleeds thick rich tone, and his habit of over dubbing them a billion times.
Although I must say I enjoy a dirty chorus -- I'm pretty sure he actually used the Stereo chorus, or a boss one for a while. The dirty slow rate sound from "Perry Mason" is kinda cool. I played my Stereo Chorus through two dirty amps for a while.. very fun.
I love the Power Ballad setting. It gives you those nice Neal Schon 80's clean tones.

I didn't hear the damn fat solo setting correctly, he should've let some individual notes ring out longer to show the raw power of the pedal
