Raiden isnt literally gay. But many players accused Raiden of being gay in the sense that they believed that Raiden was a "stupid" character or badly designed. In MGS3, Raikov is introduced into the game to parody Raiden by making him literally gay. Its a nod to MGS fans. You basically beat him up and take his clothes. Its not a positive endorsement, and is used as comic relief.

@AbRiLkOoL Hey, hey, I love Raiden too, nothing against him. But the general reception for him in the west... Not so good. So I think it really is Hideo who thought Raiden would be really popular, but he didn't, and that's what this conversation is about. ;P

Personally, I think Raiden's great. I'm tired of all this manly-man heroes (though I LOVE Snake), and it's really nice of Kojima to try to make games more attractive to girls as well. :)

i just had a thought... At the part where Eva tells Snake that Volgin removed every blindfold so they can see who was going to kill them reminded me of the scenes in the game where he would hurt Eva in front of Sokolov or torture Snake ruthlessly. This makes me wonder -WHY- would Raikov willingly want to be with someone like that? I think that Volgin might actually be blackmailing him to be his lover, and his sadistic nature rubbed off on Raikov (punching his own soldiers!). I got a whole theory

Also Zero said that the youngest son gets treated the worst and is named Ivan so possibly he's just taking out his anger over being treated badly at home on random scientists. XD Or even more bizarre(considering their personalities) he and Volgin love each other and Raikov just likes to punch things for no reason ha ha!
