Hi, please remember that we do not live in those times and we were not close to PN or RV to comment their behaviours. I have just finished to read one of Pola's biography where is stated that Rudolf was the biggest love of her life and that she was so in despair on the funeral, she couldn't stop herself from crying. Media couldn't miss such opportunity to criticise that she just make her promotion. Media those times were almost the same like todays- preying on famous people.
2:50 Jeanine Basinger, historian, goofs bigtime. When "The Sheik" starring Valentino premiered in 1921, Pola wasn't/couldn't be with him as she hadn't yet immigrated to America, which she would in 1923. She couldn't be talking about Pola on the arm of Valentino at "Son of the Sheik" as that film was released after Valentino died. Lastly, Grauman's Chinese Theater was completed in 1927, it didn't exist in 1921.
"Pola Negri: The Iconic Collection" is now available for sale at brightshiningcity'dat'com! 4 of Pola Negri's early films from Europe ( The Polish Dancer,The Yellow Ticket, Eyes of The Mummy Ma and Sappho) digitally re-mastered and re-scored with original piano music by pianist and composer Rick Dejonge with English title cards. Includes many bonus features in a 3 disc package with 8 page booklet. A rare collector's item!
@wieslawl59 I can state what has been written by more than one person who was alive when Rudolph died, here's a little bit of research- Actress Pola Negri, who said that she and Valentino had been engaged, attended Valentino's funeral services in Los Angeles, flinging her herself on his coffin and repeatedly fainting -- though most witnesses said she did it as a stunt for the press. read the article by Micheline Keating from The Daily Mirror, all you have to do is a little research
from an article in the Daily Mirror by Micheline Keating, the headline POLA FAINTS FAINTS FAINTS ,Yesterday brought Pola Negri to New York to attend the funeral of her great lover, Rudolph Valentino. Pola is heralded as the screen's greatest emotional actress. Anyone who saw her yesterday won't doubt it. Our regret is that the kliegs and cameras were missing. No acting Pola will do upon the screen will compete with the performance she gave. Pola lied about being engaged to Valentino, used him.
@pastelpinkgirly I disagree.. She used his funeral for self-promotion and lied about being engaged to him. She had a floral arrangement made to place over his casket that spelled "POLA" in conspicuous letters. Ben Lyon had it removed. Before he died , she claimed to be his fiancee--he tried to get the studio to force her to stop saying this. George Ullman said Rudy never claimed to be engaged to her. After his death, she is quoted as saying he was "common". Journalists said she was a faker.
Hey can you please say what is the melody/song used at the beginning of this movie??? It's Chopin right? what's the title?

@deepseadirt1
her goofs are legendary. She is so painfully inconsistent all the time. Why TCM always recruits her is beyond me. She's awful.

@jahlaune
I agree. Gloria was a consumate actress and stood the test of time.
I love how butthurt her defenders get if you (god forbid) disagree with them.
You know who you are.

@juanitat10 You could care less? Then why don't you do it? How can you state the truth? You were not even born that time.

Communicate with who? You need to stop being so hypersensitive. Facts are facts, and Pola was dreadful.
Because I'm correct and several books can back me up on this, dosen't make me arrogant. it makes me correct. learn the differance.

I hate her. The way she played with Valentino's heart was unforgivable.

Thanks for upload. ;) I thought that it was Son of the Sheik and Valentino took Vilma Banky to the premiere. I guess i'm wrong on that.
