  • people sing this song so cheerfully, I wonder if they realise the lyrics are all about death?

  • @thehurpv4c and sexy ladies

  • @cosmina234 you spell it "colleagues". And it's a high-school, not a hight-school. And you don't have to use we because you've already replaced it with me and my colleagues.

  • strasznie mnie wkurza kiedy Oni wszyscy śpiewają "idżitur" - nawet Włosi i Skandynawowie. Poza tym wykonanie wyśmienite

  • @petrus60687 włoskim i francuskim wymawia się tak: ("idżitur"); pronunciacion niemieckiego "igitur". Obie są poprawne.

  • Love it!!! Best version I've heard. Score available???

  • Szeretném meg kapni magyarul a szöveget.

  • Vivat Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun (Poland)

  • My university is going to have a choir of 4500 people performing this song! :D

  • In Hungary after we finish 8th or 12th grade we sing this.

    I love it.

  • what you finish class 8th grade, you sing this

  • Sang this today, and thus said my farewell to high school. It's a tradition here that students leaving high school go from class to class, and sing this song. It's an amazing song, makes me feel all sentimental lol

  • @RyanDavidAshley here too. xD but at the end of ...uuuhm...under high school...i frgot how u cll that

  • this song was sang by freshmen in our Universities, in first day of school, in university's auditorium, but not anymore....anyway, not during Ceausescu's last period, and now... well, can't remember me singing it at Academy...unfortunately.

I know this song from my grandfather.

  • One of the best for sure!

  • isn't there a second verse that goes:

vita nostra brevis est brevi finietur vita nostra brevis est brevi finietur venit mors velocitor rapit nos atrociter nemini parcetur nemini parcetur?

  • @Hiphopapotamus98

there sure is, it's a pretty long song in fact

  • @Hiphopapotamus98 yes there is

  • Wow! This might be one of the most international traditions in Europe, a truly great song.

However, here in Finland we sing the "humus" word a little differently.

Yeah, soon it's Vappu (May Day), the greatest annual carnival in Finland: student caps, lots of drinking and songs like this :)

  • In Poland, we have Juwenalia (Iuvenalia in latin). I think Juwenalia are similar to Vappu because we drink and dance a lot on concerts and partys in academics capitols ;D

PS. Gaudeamus Igitur is used to the biggest academical ceremony like open or end of academic year, less on high school ceremony. I just love that hymn!

  • Itak je tko na maturantskem plesu da dajo gor posnetek ne samo podlage ampak tud folka k poje zato sploh noben ne poje ker so vsi pijani eni pa pojejo neki čist druzga recimo kj od cece...

  • In what other countries besides Romania do high school students in their last year sing Gaudeamus Igitur for their professors?

  • Its common to sing it in good Austrian high schools (Gymnasien) but not for the profs but WITH them!

    Vivat Academia!

  • @Potopul We sing Gaudeamus in Czech Republic... but I´m a student of secondary grammar school, I don´t know the situation on other types of schools... But tonight, we have a celebrating ball, where we sing this...

  • oh! im going Standing Ovation over this!

  • Brahms did it way better - see academic festival overture - op.80 - Brahms takes this melody to school at the finale

  • To je super:D

  • Beautiful :)

  • Yo Eveline, thanks for putting this up! I would love to buy a copy of this score. I know it's a long shot, but can you or anyone identify the arranger/publisher?

Then the dust doth claim us!

  • wonderful

  • we sang this for my choir.

    The troubadors!

  • Oh, man... I have to sing this on my graduation (which is why I'm listening to it here in the first place) but I can't sing and there's no way I'm gonna reach those high notes. But we're so many, no one's gonna notice if I just move my lips at that part... ;-)

  • I recall a Saturday night after my midterm exams: after a long night of consuming far more beer than I had all term, we (about 6 of us) "serenaded" the dorms at about 4 AM with this! LOL

  • We had to sing it on Latin class. It was funny :)

  • Gaudeamus igitur

    Iuvenes dum sumus!

    Post iucundam iuventutem,

    post ,olestam senectutem,

    nos habebit humus.

    Vivat academia,

    vivant professores,

    vivat membrum quodlibet,

    vivant membra quaelibet,

    semper sint in fore!

  • Just love it!

  • The harmonization is marvelous.. the best I've heard, and I've heard a lot.

As to those who don't enjoy it. The older you get, the more you appreciate the text.

    It was ever thus.

I'm 62, and it makes me feel young every time I hear it, Juvenes dum Sumus? I'm STILL young when I sing this

  • well.. ur not really young.. :D

  • So beautiful...ageless music.

    Thank You!

  • Wow, this version is really good. So much better than my Latin class.

  • post molest am!

  • wow your mature...its molestam, as in (after a TROUBLESOME old age)

  • Really, this is the best version on YouTube there is. Soms friend of mine are a bit spoiled by wrong versions, bus I think this version aproximates the original the best.

  • the best~

  • Wow!! This gives wings to my day.

  • I was in a youth hostel in Ottawa Canada one time when someone broke out a guitar-we all started singing this. There were about 20 of us from almost as many nations, but we didn't harmonize too badly.

  • I was singing this song on our school ceremony this school year. We were not so good ×D

  • viva Gavin David Lee's disipler

  • that's perfect version

we sing it in high school too:D

  • the best version

  • Naprosto uchvatne... To je neco uzasneho...

  • If you think singing it at the end of college is bad, we have to sing it and we're in high school.

  • Beautifull... gyönyörű!

  • Exactly the same version was emitted at the beggining of new Academic Year at Faculty of Law and Administration of Silesia University. I can even recognise the same voices and notes as they were. Shame that I did not know anything about this song earlier although my status as a student is by no means short. They could have sung the phrase about "omnes virgines" that is at the very end of the song. So I feel incumbent to add: Vivant omnes virgines!

  • ja den beste versjonen! elsker denne sangen :)

  • Na chórze szkolnym to śpiewam xD

  • piękna wersja :)

  • We used to get quite drunk on Friday nights- and would walk around the quad at 2 AM singing this in loud voice!

  • do do sol do la la la si do re si do mi do si do re re mi do re re si do re re mmi do re re

  • Omfg, I remember learning this in 9th Latin, and everyone was giggling at "molestam" (from post molestam senectutem).

  • Latterlig (les: morsomt) at dette klippet nærmer seg nitti tusen visninger.

    (Gavin og TSS ftw)

  • me encanta este himno

  • this is the best version of the song I've heard. Pity the rest of the song wasn't recorded. The different voices are coming out so nicely.

Very beautiful. Congratulations to all who participated in the event. :)

  • Vakkert!

Her hører vi at Gavins Desipler har gjort jobben sin. Lenge leve TSS

  • this is gorgeous and is so far my favorite performance of this song. it's really too bad there's not more. even my 5 year old niece likes it.

  • Ayer me gradué y cantamos el Gaudeamos también!

  • Missing the stanza about young easy ladies...

  • 6. |: Vivat et respublica

    Et qui illam regit, :|

    Vivat nostra civitas,

    Maecenatum caritas,

    |: Quae nos hic protegit.

  • 7. |: Pereat tristitia,

    Pereant osores, :|

    Pereat diabolus,

    Quivis antiburschius,

    |: Atque irrisores. :|
