  • About the meaning of the song, it isnt about worthlessness or suicide. actually, its about the opposite. Its about standing tall. The song was written very soon after Project was dumped by Atlantic Records. You can see it in the lyrics "you were so right to write us off" and "when you're just a memory I'll be there...." The song is saying, "Yeah, you may have written us off, but we're gonna show you how stupid that decision was."

re-read the lyrics with this situation in mind and it makes since

  • This is one of the best songs on thier greatest and most underrated albums ever.

  • there's times when i can just forget whatever the songs are supposed to be saying... and love the friggin music

and here's a lot of it to love... so who cares whatever the hell it's supposed to mean

  • my favourite project song

  • my friend took me to a show cause his cousin was the drummer, and that was after the first CD, this CD had to be epic, they just got better over time, and the only new music artist i still enjoy

  • man...i love this song, but i must say it didnt help me with my depression when i was younger....in fact, it helped me get to a very bad place...thank God ive matured and grown past that...good music though

  • @DBoatman89 What I wonder is that if it's good music how did it get you to a bad place? Speaking of, they call this a Christian band but I have to say the opposite is true after I dug deeper into them and listened to their interviews. Their CD Truthless Heroes, although great and hitting a sore truth, was not Christian. In fact, the people he got the inspiration from were far from Christian. One of the guys was a cartoonist who openly mocked God. Anyway, people should be dliligent in all claims.

  • @realitysmaster yea, by "good music" i was more looking at it's composure. As far as the lyrics and other stuff involving the band, I lost a lot respect for it due to the messages they send. I would have to agree that theyre not a christian band...they often send quite the opposite sort of messages.

  • @DBoatman89 I totally agree with you. These guys are very talented and I wish he'd quit putting his head into the wrong things that influence him. A warning for us all as well.

  • @DBoatman89 Do you have any examples of these "un-Christian" messages? I've yet to read any lyrical content from them that was contrary to their proclaimed beliefs.

  • @IDFPleonexia alot of song on the album "Songs to burn your bridges by". Very depressing and encourages thoughts of suicide and worthlessness

  • @IDFPleonexia granted i may not be catching the lyrics for their intended content, but that is nonetheless the message that was sent to me, as well as others i've known

  • @DBoatman89 A lot of people internalize/personalize/project-their-own-meanings into songs from a very dark place that is far from the artist's original intention. Christians can be blind when so caught up in their own "spirituality". People need to take personal responsibility and not blame some artist for their place in life. Art is an expression and sometimes people can sympathize/empathize/relate with some dark subject matter and use it as a release, a way of dealing with. Go read the Psalms.

  • @datubeda Did you even read the post i put before? I said that it maybe wasnt the original intention of the lyrics. However, that is the message that came across to me, and to many others. So despite what the intended message is, the message being sent to several ppl was a damaging one.

  • @DBoatman89 I did read your message and responded appropriately. The message is not a damaging one; it is damaged people misinterpreting it - that is not an artist's fault. The album along with Truthless Heroes tells a story. That story does not "encourage thoughts of suicide and feelings of worthlessness". So instead of saying the message sent was a damaging one, say some receivers of a message messed up it's original intent... put responsibility where it's due.

  • @datubeda if a large number of ppl percieve their message as such, then they obviously dont have a clear message. There will always be "off" interpretations of songs, but if the message of the song sends a lot of negative stuff to a lot of ppl, then it's not necessarily the ppl.

  • @datubeda If only a few ppl get a weird interpretation of a song, that's one thing...but if several ppl do, then there must be something to the msg being sent...i know you must love this band and all...but try to look past your bias and look at the evidence

  • @DBoatman89 The evidence is a lot of messed up people :) That said, their music has always been a great inspiriation, a great release, and a great vehicle for self-reflection for me... and others I know.

  • @realitysmaster A lot of people internalize/personalize/project-their-own-meanings into songs from a very dark place that is far from the artist's original intention. Christians can be blind when so caught up in their own "spirituality". People need to take personal responsibility and not blame some artist for their place in life. • @datubeda Although I agree with you about artistic expression, with all due respect, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I do like this band, but I would not go as far to say they are Christian. There's a lot of posing going on and I believe even though their intentions are well meaning they are off base. This has nothing to do with spirituality. I'd even go as far as saying spirituality in itself muddles the Christian walk. Anyway, many people have claimed to be depressed

  • @datubeda after listening to them. If you watch the lead singer's interview on the Truthless Heroes cd then you'll hear what he says is his inspiration. Although he was right in some things he protested in the music, he was not Biblical. He never mentions Biblical inpiration or inspiration from any true Chistians on his work. In our inspirations comes a lot of our worldview. The inspirations he credited I researched as all should do about anyone's claims. They openly mocked the gospel in their

  • @datubeda "artistic expressions." It's like all of these people who follow blindly so-called Christian leaders like Rick Warren or David Barton. Those guys clearly distort the Bible and openly lie about many things. That's why we, if you are, as Christian are supposed to be sober-minded and objectionable to anything people say or do. That's why you study Scripture daily until you are gone. You appear to be sharp and intelligent. So, I certainly may be "preaching to the choir" here.

  • @realitysmaster You don't know enough about the singer if you think "he never mentions Biblical inspiration or inspiration from Christians in his work"... look up more on him including his blog and some of the public speaking he does. Regarding Truthless Heroes, what do you think the message is? And why is it off base? What is it that you think their "intentions" are? And why are they off base? Does all social commentary have to be based on Scripture?

  • @realitysmaster Art is their job... does all art have to be "Christian art" in your opinion? Why can't they be Christian artists? Just like any Christian having a job - such as a Christian banker, waiter/waitress, lawyer, doctor, photographer, painter, whatever... Christians get funny when it comes to art and music, as though all art needs to be Jesus hanging on a cross, or the message of eternal salvation... very interesting to me.

  • 6/8 is just a compound time signature that is counted nearly exactly like 3/4, so I don't see what the big deal is. Besides, half the song is in 12/8 anyway. =P

  • @slaoskcirtap2010,if u don't like it,why are u looking at the comments?Sad.

  • @joseballer4life I never said I didn't like it. I love these guys.

  • @slaoskcirtap2010,your hate comment made that obvious, but the ''big deal'' is that we like Project 86 and u tried to make us look stupid by asking why do we like this song so much,so next time think before u say it.

  • @joseballer4life You misunderstand me. There was no hate in that comment, I was just asking why it was such a big deal whether the song was in 3/4 or not, my point being it's an awesome song, so just enjoy. I love this song, and I love Project 86, I own every cd. It was not meant to be a hate comment, but more of a "who cares about the time signature, enjoy the song" comment.

  • @slaoskcirtap2010 6/8 isn't a compound time signature at all. It has the same rhythmic quality as 3/4, its just used when the feel is more like: 1,2,3,1,2,3 rather than 3/4's 1 and 2, 1 and 2.

Bassically you'd call it is 6/8 if it is in 3/4, but composed all of 8th notes.

  • @JamesHazBeHaiTyme That's exactly what a compound time signature is. Trust me, I have an Associates in Music Composition. I know what I'm talking about. But again, I just hafta say, who cares what the time signature is? It's a great song. Just enjoy it.

  • I thought 3/4 meant they were talking about apartment numbers?

  • The opening riff is actually 6/8, since it doesnt repeat until 6 beats. But it can always be reduced to 3/4

  • @imagayfox However beats can repeat in the middle of a measure however they are really uncommon I have played music where it repeats in the middle of a measure(it is difficult to play until you think of it in a different way).

  • I walked into drum lessons today and played this for my drum teacher (A veteran drummer with several sponsorships and 30 years of professional drumming under his belt). I asked him what time signature it was in. His reply was "That's obviously 6/8". So there you go

  • It actually does sound a bit like 6/8 cause the snare hits on the 4 if you count it in 6. It wouldn't really make sense in 3/4. But who cares? It's still a kickass song

  • sick.

  • This is my favorite P86 song. It was the song that took me out of rock and into hardcore.

  • Dang this is great.

  • breakdown in 75%

  • this is the song they said they wrote to Atlantic records when they kicked them off the label and put them down, kinda like an in ur face song . lol

  • THIS IS THE SOUND THIS IS THE VOICE

  • Wow...I started a huge argument here. I feel accomplished!

really now, 3/4 is counted ONE and TWO and THREE and.

6/8 time is ONE two three FOUR five six

    They are completely different.

I'm a drummer and a pianist. I KNOW my time signatures.

  • this is a pretty badass song

  • haha i was hoping to actually hear a breakdown :(

  • I need my bonus tracks version again... I never realized how GREAT this song is. :O

  • Haha, the whole song was in 4/4. The last riff was a little off putting but after a few listens I found that it too was in 4/4.The Last riff could have been counted in 3/4 but the tempo would have been much faster.

  • @pppoooppp It's actually in 3/4 buddy.

  • @telemaster1988 rofl...it's called breakdown adding to how much it fails.

  • um guys it doesnt actually make a difference wether you call it 3/4 or 6/8....you can put the accent wherever the hell you want! :D

    great song btw

  • 3/4 and 6/8 are essentially the same thing. The American composer Aaron Copland actually suggested reducing larger tempos such as 6/8 down to 3/4 to make it easier on your brain.

  • 76soulhunter67 is right. This song is 3/4.If you count it, the accent is on the first beat.

  • defo 6/8 :)

  • I love this song.

  • sick dude..

    this music rocks as hell!!!

  • Guys,

    The chorus is in 3/4

    verse definitely in 6/8

Its pretty much semantics, since the count is essentially the same, but the feel is different.

  • it's 3/4,, the accent is in the whole song on the 1th count,, in 6/8 the accent is on the 1th and the 3th count

  • This song is in 6/8, not 3/4. Good song though.

  • Hehe... Depends how you want to count it at times. Personally, I've always counted it as 3/4, but 6/8 is also applicable .

This is the song that made my defining moment in Project 86 history! So brutal and yet a so calming and alarming message.

  • I'm pretty sure if it was in 6/8 they would have called it "breakdown in 6/8"

  • @CarlFromCanada 6/8 is 3/4 you idiot

  • @ImNotOkIPromiseYou1 6/8 is twice the speed of 3/4

  • @CarlFromCanada 6/8 is 3/4...

  • @CarlFromCanada If you simplify 6/8 it is 3/4... So it's the same thing, lol. That and "Breakdown in 6/8" just doesn't sound cool, haha. Or perhaps there is a hidden meaning behind the title of the song...? Hmmm... :P

  • @shamgar001

    nuh uh! It's in 12/16!!11!

  • viva la p86

  • P86...simply the best

  • @srouxd162

Its not the best you fucktard

  • @techcodude

Who the hell are you to say?

No one wants to read your immature rants asshole.

  • @srouxd162 its called "common sense"

  • P86 is were it's at... a huge influence on my playing music.
