Because for whatever reason Brandon didn't use Extremespeed with Rayquaza again, he either thought he would outspeed Grumpig or he accidentally selected a different move.
I was only a little surprised that he hit the Sub TWICE and it still didn't break. :P
Mainly because that's when I realized his Typhlosion -probably- isn't EV trained, but even if it was, it would still have a bit of trouble taking down a Grumpig because of the Thick Fat, like you said.
Okay, let's see, Typhlosion's Base Speed is 100, Grumpig's is 80, so most Typhlosion's would be faster, yes. [unless they had a Minus Speed Nature for whatever reason]
But, Grumpig is EV Trained in Speed, and has a Plus Speed Nature if I remember correctly, I made it that way because it's supposed to be a sweeper.
And I don't think Brandom EV Trains, at least not very much, or maybe his Typhlosion just isn't EV Trained in Speed or something.
Here's the thing though, my Grumpig has the Thick Fat ability, which halves all damage for Ice and Fire moves.
Eruption also does less damage if you the Pokemon that uses it has less health, so it's strongest at full health.
Grumpig is also a good Special Wall, it takes Special Attacks well.
I wasn't too surprised when his Typhlosion didn't break the Sub at first, but when it failed to take out the Sub after a 2ND Eruption, I was a little surprised. I did have a Calm Mind up though.
haha its no longer in service, but thats not what i wanted to talk to you about...OH MY GOODNESS I HAVE A CHAIN OF FIFTY TWO GASTRODONS AND STIILLLL HAVENT FOUND A SHINY PATCH!!!! what am i doing wrong??
You aren't doing anything wrong at all, I'm surprised you got to 52 Chains so easily in the first place, you must be very good at Chaining, I used to only get to the 30 to 35 mark and then my Chain would Break.
I'm sure you know this, but once you get to a chain of... 40, I'm pretty sure it is, you don't have to chain anymore, 40 is the highest chance of Shinies appearing, just keep walking back and forth charging the Pokeradar while obviously using the Repels, until a Shiny Patch shows up.
@joshp011 haha thanks, I just kept on going thinking that the higher amount of chains that i got the larger the chances were of getting a shiny. Can you continue to chain shinies then? I mean like once the shiny is caught, after that will there be other shiny grass patches?
Yeah, once you do end up finding a Shiny, you can still find Shiny Patches, heck, some people have been known to get up to 4, 5, 6, I think I remember someone got more than 11 Shiny Pokemon from just one Chain, this person is a really good Shiny Chainer if you haven't heard of him, Z33.
@joshp011 Oh thats awesome! I finally caught a shiny Skitty, but then i broke the chain :PP. I think Ill go look up this Z33 guy. Dont worry, ill keep you posted!
Ok, a couple of things, first of all AWESOME song, i think that its absolutely amazing. At first i was like....hmmmm.....what pokemon is that, then i was like "ah-duuurrrr" its Rayquaza, anyways I was thinking of raising a strong Grumpig myself, it's Sassy, and I was thinking of maxing out its Sp. Def and Sp. Atk, and then putting the rest into either Def or HP what do you think? (p.s. i am also a big fan of Signal Beam ^__^) haha thanks!
That Grumpig of yours sounds awesome, more of a bulky Grumpig compared to mine which is [252 HP - 20 Sp. Def - 236 Spe - Timid Nature] so mine is a bit faster than usual.
I like your idea of a Sp. Atk - Sp.Def - Def or HP set though, and I think it would work well too.
So yeah, if you do end up raising a Grumpig like that, tell me how it turns out in battle. =]
Hmm, maybe a little, yes, as the whole point of Substitute is to keep my Grumpig alive for long enough to set up with Calm Mind, and since it's fast, it will usually set up before the Other Pokemon attacks.
Though if your Grumpig is -already- bulky it probably won't be as effective, though if you want to use Substitute, go for it.
@joshp011 I see...but wouldnt it be more difficult to break the substitute if the Pokemon using it has high defensive stats? Or do subs not work like that?
Ahh, I forgot about that, yes that is true, if the Pokemon has high Defenses and uses a Substitute, it will be harder to break the Substitute, and may even not break it at all. [giving you another free turn to do what you want]
The way the Substitute works is, say if you've got 200 HP, and you use Substitute, it will take 50 HP away [1/4 of your Max HP, obviously], then if the Opponent's Pokemon attacks you and they do less than 50 damage to your HP, it won't break.
@joshp011 Ok sounds good, my little Spoink is now a Grumpig at level 34 (though im trying really hard to find a shiny cause they both look SO cool as shinies) haha, thanks for the tips/advice/help and ill keep in touch ^__^
Yeah definitely, I'll talk to you sometime soon. =]
And no problem, I'm not sure I really even helped you that much anyway though... =P
Oh, btw, I could probably get you a Shiny Grumpig [using the RNG method, check it out on Youtube if you want, it's legit, no cheating involved at all] but I can't tonight, going to sleep as soon as I post this comment, just let me know if you want that Shiny Spoink.
@joshp011 Ohh thats awesome! but unfortunately i dont have Wifi in my ds, i mean im sure i could GET it (but im not technologically inclined =P) and i dont know my SID and i dont have any shinies with me...except for the shiny pichu from the event, does that count as a chain/bred shiny though?
That's okay, I'm not sure about that Shiny Event Pichu, I could try it myself on my SoulSilver when I can and let you know?
...Actually, hold on.
It doesn't count as a Chain/Bred Shiny, but I just remembered something, it was received from an event, meaning it doesn't have your Trainer ID on it, right?
Well that would mean it doesn't have your SID, so you couldn't use it, which sucks, but you need to have caught it, no Bred/Traded/Chained Shinies can be used.. =/
From what I remember, no, unless they've found a way to, but I doubt that.
You can find your SID through an Action Replay or through a Shiny that you "ran into by accident" [no Chain/Bred/Traded Pokemon obviously], but I'm guessing you don't have an AR anyway. =/
@joshp011 haha no action replay, but ive heard that you can have other people can tell you what your SID is (people who use AR or are hackers). Finding your SID is soo difficult. But the upsetting thing is, I actually HAVE caught a shiny zigzagoon in my emerald version, but Im on vacation and I brought Leaf Green with me and not Emerald, and im kicking myself in the butt for that :PP
I was going to say you could trade me one of your Pokemon [it doesn't have to be shiny] and I would give you your SID, but then I realized you don't have Wi-Fi on your DS. =/
Oh, and btw, even if you transferred that Shiny Zigzagoon, it wouldn't* give you your SID for Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HG/SS, because you caught it in Emerald, I know, it's stupid, I tried doing it with my Shiny Spinda from Emerald, and it wouldn't work. =/
@joshp011 Oh i know that the trade over wouldnt work, i was thinking of abusing the RNG in Emerald (that sounds so bad haha), then hatching a shiny spoink in it and trading it over so i also get the exp boost ^__^. And do you have a facebook? I just think that chatting these conversations would be easier than going back and forth on youtube haha =p. You should message me ur name though cause i also wanna learn how to set up my Wifi ^_^
Ahh, I almost forgot that you could do that in Emerald. [Duh, Josh really? =P]
Also, I do have Facebook, I created it about a week ago actually [never really used Social Networking sites, but I'm getting into Facebook.] but I only really use Facebook for Family and Friends in Real Life, don't take it the wrong way.
Though I'd be happy to give you my email if you have MSN, or we could always go to my Youtube Stream and talk there? [Yay, a reason to use my Stream. =3]
@joshp011 Yeah thats cool I totally understand ^_^ And I dont have a webcam for Youtube Stream if thats what I think it is...unless its not haha. Oh yes and I still need to learn how to set up my Wifi so if you could teach me that'd be great :)
Nah, Youtube Stream is bit different to a Normal Stream, you just go into my Stream and talk, sort of like MSN/Yahoo Messenger/etc, and you can also post Videos in there that we can both Watch.
That's pretty much it, just a easier way of having a Conversation while being able to watch Videos at the same time.
Nice sweep, i guess we all all underestimated Grumpig's potential ^^'
Btw, don't let your opponents take ubers on their teams that rayquaza almost screwed up the whole reason of this battle being a sweep.
Also, try to find tougher opponents. I mean look at this guy, he clearly doesn't ev train or have any strategy at all (no offense fambrandon3737)!! (-.-' Who uses Frenzy Plant in wifi -.-')
I know, some people I battle on Wi-Fi are sometimes new to Wi-Fi or just aren't too experienced, but then again, they usually ask me for battles, and I don't want to turn them down.
I've battled more people than this, some that were better than me, back when I was still new to Wi-Fi battling.
I would have posted the battles if I saved them, but I didn't have a Camera to Record with when I did battle all those other people. =/
Thanks, these are mainly "for fun" battles, with some people I met on Youtube who have grown to become my friends on here.
Besides, I only became more of a competitive battler and starting taking it a little more seriously around December last year, so I've never been very competitive anyway, mainly just battles with friends. =P
Hehe, a lot of people didn't expect me to be a Wi-Fi battler for some reason. X]
Oh well, at least now they know to expect more, but don't worry, my main focus is still Sprite Videos, this is just what I'm gonna upload in my spare time when I can't be bothered to make/am unable to Sprite.
