  • That is nice. #complication spoiler disclaimer:What about the many different experiences at UC Berkeley? There's the Greek letters, redneck, tourist (summer, winter, during session, break), parents, old alumni, classes of distant past, of recent past, current students, prospective students, friends, professors, family of professors,, etc. Each w/unique experiences, though somewhat pigeonholable, and not too different to normally mean reference to a different entity. But a different spin on each.

  • So instead of using better search algorithms to filter information already there you create an undetermined amount of "new" information structured in pretty much the same way everything is right now... Sounds like someone went about inventing the tricycle and tries to sell it to the kindergarden folks by the look of that promo video. LOL.

  • 2:00 ''This is really cool'' lol no it is not! I hate barcodes and I hate RFID, and now thanks to this video, I will hate 'metaweb' all thanks for making the world a little darker guys!

  • when i say i love boston i do mean Thee Boston. (band)

  • @foodie098 Yeah, certainly. The company guys should consult VIAF.

  • Isn't this a classic example of re-inventing the wheel? I thought the problem was already solved by librarians decades ago. It is known as Authority Control.

  • @foodie098 Yeah, certainly. The company guys should consult VIAF.

  • @foodie098 @vinitbhu06 I'm sorry, what? What exactly are they reinventing? They've build a user friendly product that people can use to describe topics in a semantically meaningful way. It's awesome!

  • This is the most fresh idea I saw for the web content for a long time now :)

  • i bequeath you the power of the 'meta tag' & 'anchor tag' attribute found in any decent blog or website. If utilized property, without seo bias could cluster search concepts/terms into single key phrases. It's just a pity that this semantic arrangement has been rendered useless by abusive webmasters. A good example 1:20 would include those search phases in the meta tag attribute on berkeley's homepage. Now if every site did this then the web would indeed be more streamlined & organized.

  • impressive presentation

  • Anyone else out there pissed about Google snuffing out yet another cool company?

  • This is so awesome I'm signing up right now!

  • The only problem is that it doesn't really work. Other than that, lovely presentation.

  • It´s possible to provide a subtitle for this vídeo? I would like to translate to Brazilian Portuguese.

  • nice stuff dude!

  • PacRimJim hits the nail on the head, I wanna repeat his comment. This informatic may preclude and negate a key element of neutrality. "# PacRimJim 1 day ago Sounds good, but consider: Who will define the entities? Who will map the Metaweb? Which culture will be the norm for the entities and their mapping? What happens if these are politicized by a particular political group? Ambiguity assures better access to unbiased information. Seems like Metaweb would jeapordize critical thinking."
  • @jctw769 i think the video just presents their proposal. in practise we'll have is a crowd-source entity map powered by huge scrutinization. If billions of people around the World use certain term in a certain context to describe a certain entity, we can have statistical value here. Cultural mistakes will be also reflected on this statistics i guess, and it would be nice to get to know those problematics entities. We have a famous example: Does Wikipedia affects neutrality?

  • Anyone know what program(s) was used to make this video? Thanks!

  • Very very important stuff here, watch it twice!

  • now this is how you explain an idea :)

  • @danwahn remember thsi vid was made by epipheo studios.

  • damn this could be the next google

  • @freakincrazyperson

    Google acquired Metaweb !

  • This is a good idea, im suprised.

  • Sounds good, but consider:

    Who will define the entities?

    Who will map the Metaweb?

Which culture will be the norm for the entities and their mapping?

What happens if these are politicized by a particular political group?

Ambiguity assures better access to unbiased information.

Seems like Metaweb would jeapordize critical thinking.

  • @PacRimJim GOOGLE

  • looked like welcome to meth lab. i am really disappointed

  • brilliant idea.

  • doest facebook do something similar? instead their 'entities' are 'fan pages'?

  • the web? hah. that's just the start, google will take over the world one day.

  • Google is really wants to take the web! The future is near

  • Hey! At 1:45 in the video, that's me! (cue Joe Isuzu yelling "Winner! Winner! Winner!") So, Mr. MetaWeb, do I get a percentage of the sale to Google? Have your people call my people at @orenjacob and we'll talk.

  • GO BEARS....

    and I HATE LINEAR ALGEBRA

  • Google's about to get a major upgrade. =)

  • Great vid!

  • thanks to epipheo for this awesome video!

  • Interesting.

    Support!

  • "BAM!" > was it Steve Jobs who wrote this? :)

    Cool presentation btw!

  • nice... hope it's as easy to integrate with as it sounds... wordpress plugin anyone? ;)

  • It's the best idea since sliced bread, I'll swear by it

  • google ftw

  • I wonder what Google will do with this and hope it works out for the best. This is my first time learning about semantic web concepts and it seems like an amazing foundation Metaweb has created thus far. I believe Google will be able to expand this creative start to make a definitive change in web searches.

  • Fantastic!!! the new logo 3:16 , the concept and the merger. Congrats to Metaweb team and wish them all the best.

  • This looks like a big improvement in the field of search engines. However, it will be interesting to see how Google implement it. Even though it sounds pretty simple, it definitely isn't.

  • I like it

  • I like the pear laptop at 2:17

  • Amazing service and totally cool video! So well done and congrats on the purchase from Google.

  • I've been saying for years, this was one of the important first steps towards creating meaningful AI.

Considering today's hardware, simulating the complexity of a brain isn't the issue. Educating it is the issue. The sheer number of concepts and relations and 'entities' we absorb as we grow up is nearly impossible to reproduce in an AI construct.

This isn't the first attempt to categorize 'entities.' There are others and at least two that are more developed than this one.

  • @sharpnova2

which two attempts are more developed? and are they currently available to the public?

  • @jbakjs wolfram alpha is publicly accessible and more developed.

the other is the one i'm working on. it's private and much more developed than either of these.

  • @sharpnova2 I am actually working on something similar as well. But I think if Google doesn't mess up, they should take this market. I have been surprised for a long time that Google hasn't bought them, and then all of a sudden they did.

  • haha- look at the lips starting @ 0:55

  • Good stuff - let's hope Google runs with it!

  • YES! AMAZING!

  • More than a feelin'

  • I like it.

It's the next step in search engines.

  • Very nice explanation of the essence of Semweb without mentioning a triple once, well done!

  • I most definitely think this will help with GoogleTV @mjeacoma, google is changing up their SEO engine with this acquisition. It will also help blogging become more fun and engaging. I must do more research on metawebinc!! But I like the motion graphics in this piece haha

  • Very cool presentation. I like the definition; metaweb is like a switchboard for content on the web.

  • good!

  • smells like the google tv animation
