@macdinoss I am not missing the point nor do I have difficulty distinguishing between Brad Pitt and his chsracter. I am pointing out the irony which seemingly many agree is a recognizable point.......but I appreciate your feedback nonetheless
I don't own a car. I have another child with my current gf. By the time i pay support and get things for my 3rd child, I have nothing left to live on, so before you try to slam me for anything, read this. I'm just like alot of other people who call this nation home. I just think we need a guy like Tyler to run this country and get it back on its feet.
They don't care that our children's futures are being jeopardized by the corruption of modern society. Obama wants to cut finances? How about cutting not only his, but all of the Senators' and Representatives' and see how much of an impact we have on making sure this country doesn't go further into being the biggest shit-hole in the world? And no, I don't make alot of money either. I make $7.50/hr and I'm lucky to get 10-15 hrs a week. I pay support for 2 kids and don't have my own place.
the political fucktards we "elect" have fucked the lower-class up the ass with a sandpaper condom and to stop the bleeding, they use baby powder. They don't give 2 fucks about the single mom/dad who works 2 or more jobs just to get by. As long as they fill their pockets... They don't care about the millions of people who start their own business trying to make something of themselves and go bankrupt because of all the fucking taxes they have to pay.
whoever thought up Tyler Durden was a fucking genius. Not only is that person right, but he/she has an amazing way of proving it. If Tyler were a real person, I say let that man run our country. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, the U.S. wouldn't be so goddamn fucked up. I've served this piece of shit we call a country and needless to say, the way things are being run pisses me off to no end.
you know what you should do...come up with something original. create something yourself. don't base everything you say or do on what someone already said or did. if you take one thing away from this movie it should be this... you are your own person with your own thoughts and emotions and if you sell out and do what someone has already done then you are no better then any other drone who walks this planet wanting or "needing" what society wants us to need.
just noticed in the beginning of the ,movie in the testicular cancer grroup the leader says "i look around this room and i see the most strongest courage" very nice and passive whilst tyler durden says it how it is
We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.
Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
this is my all time favorite movie and when i tell people that, girl's respond "i've never seen it" and guy's respond "i like it too, but they don't start fighting until like half an hour in". it's not my favorite movie because they fight, it's my favorite movie because tyler is fucking awesome. his philosophy of life is damn inspiring and it makes me want to live a better life.
@KiwiDillan You fucking coward. If you said that to my face, you would have swallowed a lot of blood because you couldn't keep your opinions to yourself you little spit fuck.
@KiwiDillan Wasn't trying to act tough. You are a coward, calling people names behind a computer monitor makes you a coward. You wouldn't have the courage to call me anything to my face, so why do it over the internet? Because you're a coward.
@MortimerKahn How was that hypocrisy? I have a LOT of problems. I have anorexia, depression, and insomnia. i'm 5'11 148 pounds and am a coward. Nowhere did I say I wasn't a coward. The world doesn't need me and I know it. I've been picked on my whole life, but I fight back. Of course I lose, but I get some respect. I try to stand up for myself. @KiwiDillan Know what? Disregard my last comment. It's my fault for getting angry at someone I don't know personally. I don't know if you're a coward and I am stupid for saying that you are one. It was bullshit and I'm sorry.
Unbelievable. I uploaded the scene of the smirking revenge, you know, the one in the office with the boss just 2 weeks ago, had 100 views only and it was take down by FOX. There are lots of other scenes uploaded years ago, thousands of views and they're still here. What the fuck is wrong with this site??? :(
Subliminal messages in this movie regarding Gucci: - the underwear ad - the Gucci store when they set the car alarms off - Tyler wore Gucci, his $600 alligator skin loafers ,the red leather jacket looked a lot like one they had for $3000
@DeWaltDisney On the DVD they had a costume guy do the commentary among others, so he said most of the stuff Tyler wore he found for him at the thrift shop where he specifically went to make costumes for that character. He didn't say anything about jacket or loafers, and maybe those clothes were expensive when they were new, but the point to us viewers was that it doesn't really matter. We shouldn't concern ourselves too much with shit like that.
@RayRayBx i love it when people model their life mantra/philosophy after hollywood movies specifically designed to target shallow, impressionable youths. ah, the power of marketing.
@RayRayBx yes but you are missing the point.Brad Pitt is just an actor, paid to act a role. It is important not to confuse the actor with the character he plays. Life does not imitate art- --art imitates life.
It's so ironic when brad pitt says "All been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires and movie gods and rockstars, But we won't" when he himself is a movie god and a millionaire.
@Ninearm i once did it when i was on the speed bender. i was up for two or three days straight. nothing poped up, i just got very paranoid my cell phone ring tone was playing in my ear non stop, that freaked me out, but it went away.
@dr1345 Ahh ok, I was thinking it would be more beneficial for us to take care of ourselves. After all scientists have no clue of how the body works. Especially the brain, thats like 1 billion mazes inside a million mazes, with infinite possibilties. Usually they end up bad, when we get funny ideas about how to run it. (something like that)
@Ninearm Yeah, human body is way too complicated even for science to figure out, so better not to mess with that. Always get plenty of sleep because you can die from sleep deprivation real fast.
@dr1345: No. It takes months, even years to die from sleep deprivation. It's called fatal familial insomnia. Look it up. As for the human body being too complicated for science: we're still figuring a lot of stuff out, like the brain, but we've also already figured a lot of the basics of the human body. To say to leave it alone is to say to not bother with science, exploration, and knowledge. It's to say we should be blinded, accepting sheep. We should explore, not cower in fear.
@OverbearingUrge The longest any NORMAL person can go without any sleep is about two weeks. That's it. So don't give me that familial insomnia. Very few people are unlucky to get that. Insomniacs are the people with fucked up sleeping cycles due to various reason, but they do sleep. And by leaving it alone I meant to advise that dude I was talking to not to fuck around with his body by trying to deprive himself of sleep and whatnot, you butt in. Otherwise I'm all for science.
@OverbearingUrge what is this pseudo crap? sleep deprivation is not some unexplored and obscure backwater region of science. it is a simple necessity for your body, the same as food and water. but good luck with your belief that sleep deprivation will lead to some desirable psychosomatic experience. sounds enlightening as hell.
@OverbearingUrge it takes only a few days to shut down from sleep derivation. without drugs, drugs play a big part, we cannt sleep with uppers for weeks but if a person tried without drugs it probably would be like 3-4 days you would collapse your body needs sleep.
@SSaygoodbye So according to your philosophy nobody should read "USELESS" youtube comments because they contain no inherent meaning. Is that correct? You could say the same about absolutely anything - including life itself. Does life have any inherent meaning? Err, no.
Stop trying to be intellectual cos it really doesn't suit you.
@SSaygoodbye You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your high rated youtube comment.
@Guitarfan1995 Isn't it more ironic that Brad Pitt himself said the line? One of the most bankable actors on Earth talking about how we have consumerism forced down our throats, very clever casting if you ask me, Tyler may represent The Narrator's inner self and desire to be different, but he also represents The Narrator's desires, his view of perfection, and it just so happens that his view of perfection is the same as everyone elses, he can't accept the fact that he is a consumer, genius film.
But now we can change this, a human paradise is within our grasp. We no longer have to despair our miserable situation, there is a way to channel our energy, our ideas and the creativity needed for a better world! Finaly! Occupy Wall Street! Occupy Everything!
I can't get out of this by myself, so if anyone knows what I'm feeling, send me a message or something. I need encouragement and guidance and advice from other people lile me, who know the pain of feeling like you aren't good enough. Please, out of the goodness of your hearts, help me.. Thanks
@Zygotguy What you need to do is get connected to your inner self. dont depend on others to establish your self worth. only you can determine how much you matter. God puts us through tests everyday and when we can overcome these trials and move on then thats the greatest feeling ever. Like when someone makes fun of you and you know you want to punch them but if you just dont bother with the little struggles in life it makes the things that matter alot more clear. everything else will come after
I'm losing my love for life. I feel like I'm at the bottom of the food chain. Any friendships I have don't feel real. I grew up close to god and now feel like he's just another think for himselfish person, like everyone else. I want love, and whenever I get it, I feel like the most wonderful thing has happened. It's so rare.. I'm Gunshy and alone, and feel like I have no real friends, and nobody will acknowledge me. I need someone to help me, because I think I might be thinking about suicide...
@Zygotguy brother..when you say you grew up close to God, its probably lack of tending to that relationship, that has left you feeling the way you do,..because its us not God who make our choices, we are creatures of habit, not slaves of any ideal, if you fail to use it, you lose it,...hence faith and hope...because if you've been exposed to the truth, and yet you've not fed it''...that like anything if you dont feed will then die,
I really don't see anything wrong with going after the money, the car, the perfect apartment, the fit body. If not for that, what the hell is there to do? You work hard and you reward yourself. I'm certainly not going to "let the chips fall where they may." I have some control over my life. I can choose to go to the gym. I can choose to work hard for a promotion. I'm not gonna be obsessed with tryin to be perfect. But these other things would be great to have.
@peterdabest94 what the hell is their to do?? how about build a better world for the next generation, extend your empathy to the world not just your neighbor stop living in your own bubble thinking that problems are so big that it is for some elected representative to take care of, change your mindset. plenty to do actually.
Some of the greatest minds in science and technology have done it for the thirst of knowledge not because of the golden carrot at the end of a stick, so to speak.
@peterdabest94 fine crave greater status, be a slave to what your seeing. unfortunately in this system things outside your control have an affect on you plans and mental health why do you think this film is so poignant, become self determined, why would you even post a comment like that on a thread like this if you didn't want answers?
@sksnkton Because I believe. I believe that working hard and earning those things for yourself is a fantastic feeling. I understand that there will be other factors that may affect my 'plan'. There will be. My plan won't work out perfectly. But going after the plan is my goal. If not for that, I wouldn't know what to do. If not going after the plan, I would feel like a failure. Lost in the world. Not knowing my next step.
@peterdabest94 Hmm sounds like the American Dream the thing is you have to be asleep to believe it. why set goals that are unobtainable why be happy with factors outside your control effecting your goals because that's just the way it is?? doesn't sound like survival of the fittest to me, sounds like exploitation of the weak. Listen to fox, listen to RT, listen to Al jazzera listen to the independent documentary makers online don't have believe a word of it but try to gain an understanding 1/2
@peterdabest94 Don't have beliefs people die for and over them, have an understanding, understandings can be adapted and changed and hold less emotional baggage. peace and good luck with your plans.
The future is only an expectation the past a memory all that exists is now.
@peterdabest94 The point of this movie is not to get caught up, and become a non entity, lose your persona, identity and your individuality. When your things are not a reflection of you anymore, but instead you become just a mere reflection of your possessions and their slave. Like some guy always says, "I'm a Ford man", he doesn't know who he is, so he needs to associate himself with some non-alive material object, or when people buy the only specific brands, or go crazy with their sport team.
@dr1345 I really don't think that's an issue for me. I have some guidelines in life and I stick by them. They're always in the back of my head. I would never lose a sense of who I am. However, what concerns me is when I get a job. I only go to school for now so I don't know what money does to you. If it kind of changes you or not, I guess I will wait and see. I am starting to get the whole "consumer" thing though in this movie. There's definitely some shit I can live without.
@peterdabest94 Yeah, money, powers, fame, success they all can corrupt an individual, so you have to be careful. But I think you're gonna be all right, you seem to grasp the basic understanding of right and wrong. Good luck.
@dr1345 newsflash: you can have possessions and be materialist and not be defined by them. also newsflash: this movie is also supposed to be satirical and tyler durden is not intended to be a serious role model.
@kiwiifa Materialist actually means that an individual puts more way more emphasis on value of things than a normal person does. He starts obsessing, which is not healthy at all. Jack was exactly that way, he wasn't just buying furniture, he let it get in his head, with that what "which coffee table defines me as a person" nonsense. Movie was a bit satirical, so people don't take it too seriously and start destroying everything, but nevertheless it still carried a serious message.
Well aren't you a cute little 13-year-old wanna be anarchist? Shut the fuck up. Take the Che Guevara poster off your wall, stop with your pseudo Satan worship, get a job and knock it off.
While I agree, everyone takes this to seriously (this is a movie, not a religion) I would like to point out that the ACTOR got that body working out, the character got it fighting.

To say to leave it alone is to say to not bother with science, exploration, and knowledge. It's to say we should be blinded, accepting sheep. We should explore, not cower in fear.
OverbearingUrge 2 months ago
@OverbearingUrge The longest any NORMAL person can go without any sleep is about two weeks. That's it. So don't give me that familial insomnia. Very few people are unlucky to get that. Insomniacs are the people with fucked up sleeping cycles due to various reason, but they do sleep. And by leaving it alone I meant to advise that dude I was talking to not to fuck around with his body by trying to deprive himself of sleep and whatnot, you butt in. Otherwise I'm all for science.
dr1345 2 months ago
@OverbearingUrge what is this pseudo crap? sleep deprivation is not some unexplored and obscure backwater region of science. it is a simple necessity for your body, the same as food and water. but good luck with your belief that sleep deprivation will lead to some desirable psychosomatic experience. sounds enlightening as hell.
kiwiifalling 2 months ago

Zygotguy 5 months ago

Zygotguy 5 months ago

But these other things would be great to have.
peterdabest94 5 months ago
@peterdabest94 what the hell is their to do?? how about build a better world for the next generation, extend your empathy to the world not just your neighbor stop living in your own bubble thinking that problems are so big that it is for some elected representative to take care of, change your mindset. plenty to do actually.
Some of the greatest minds in science and technology have done it for the thirst of knowledge not because of the golden carrot at the end of a stick, so to speak.
sksnkton 5 months ago
@sksnkton That was jibberish for me. Sorry. I'll stick to my plan.
peterdabest94 5 months ago
@peterdabest94 fine crave greater status, be a slave to what your seeing. unfortunately in this system things outside your control have an affect on you plans and mental health why do you think this film is so poignant, become self determined, why would you even post a comment like that on a thread like this if you didn't want answers?
sksnkton 5 months ago
@sksnkton Because I believe. I believe that working hard and earning those things for yourself is a fantastic feeling. I understand that there will be other factors that may affect my 'plan'. There will be. My plan won't work out perfectly. But going after the plan is my goal. If not for that, I wouldn't know what to do. If not going after the plan, I would feel like a failure. Lost in the world. Not knowing my next step.
peterdabest94 5 months ago
@peterdabest94 Hmm sounds like the American Dream the thing is you have to be asleep to believe it. why set goals that are unobtainable why be happy with factors outside your control effecting your goals because that's just the way it is?? doesn't sound like survival of the fittest to me, sounds like exploitation of the weak. Listen to fox, listen to RT, listen to Al jazzera listen to the independent documentary makers online don't have believe a word of it but try to gain an understanding 1/2
sksnkton 5 months ago
@peterdabest94 Don't have beliefs people die for and over them, have an understanding, understandings can be adapted and changed and hold less emotional baggage. peace and good luck with your plans.
The future is only an expectation the past a memory all that exists is now.

@peterdabest94 The point of this movie is not to get caught up, and become a non entity, lose your persona, identity and your individuality. When your things are not a reflection of you anymore, but instead you become just a mere reflection of your possessions and their slave. Like some guy always says, "I'm a Ford man", he doesn't know who he is, so he needs to associate himself with some non-alive material object, or when people buy the only specific brands, or go crazy with their sport team.
dr1345 3 months ago
@dr1345 I really don't think that's an issue for me. I have some guidelines in life and I stick by them. They're always in the back of my head. I would never lose a sense of who I am. However, what concerns me is when I get a job. I only go to school for now so I don't know what money does to you. If it kind of changes you or not, I guess I will wait and see. I am starting to get the whole "consumer" thing though in this movie. There's definitely some shit I can live without.
peterdabest94 3 months ago
@peterdabest94 Yeah, money, powers, fame, success they all can corrupt an individual, so you have to be careful. But I think you're gonna be all right, you seem to grasp the basic understanding of right and wrong. Good luck.
dr1345 3 months ago
@dr1345 newsflash: you can have possessions and be materialist and not be defined by them. also newsflash: this movie is also supposed to be satirical and tyler durden is not intended to be a serious role model.
kiwiifalling 2 months ago
@kiwiifa Materialist actually means that an individual puts more way more emphasis on value of things than a normal person does. He starts obsessing, which is not healthy at all. Jack was exactly that way, he wasn't just buying furniture, he let it get in his head, with that what "which coffee table defines me as a person" nonsense. Movie was a bit satirical, so people don't take it too seriously and start destroying everything, but nevertheless it still carried a serious message.
