  • OMG Me too i love that show!

  • i wanna learn caz of switched at birth!!!! :)

    soo inspiring :)

  • I thought sign language would be cool to learn after watching Switched at Birth

  • i want to learn because i watch switched at birth

  • @18artd i saw that show and thought it would be cool to learn sign language

  • Learning because of switched at birth

  • @18adrt haha me too

  • Wow You make a lot of videos and Im learning how to sign and your videos really do help me

  • I actually think it would be a good idea if you could do a sign language crash course for customer service. It would be extremely helpful. Just a few basic signs that will help with people in customer service jobs in assisting people with these types of needs.

  • YEAH YOU TAKE DOES 4 FINGERS IN AND OUT

  • Your all are stupid!!! of course this is not for someone who wants to talk with a professional, we all know that we have to study this, and she said that this take practice, also said that this is only words.

  • @NakedRabbi ok well that was rude have consideration damn

  • shes good at sign language but like beth4chris1 said shes not doing sentences shes doing random words which you cant make a sentence with!!!!there really easy to learn though.:D

  • @thejmr918 well that's how learning ASL starts by learning random words. Putting it together comes later. As well as using proper context.

  • shes good at sign language but like beth4chris1 said shes not doing sentences shes doing random words which you cant make a sentence with!!!!

  • i would love to learn a whole lot more sign language's from you..

  • :D u rock melissa!!! whoooooh! ur so great i love youuuu!!!!

  • there isnt any of this videos on expertvillage i've tried looking for them on the channel and theres nothing!

  • are you from somewhere north near minnesota? cuz i love the way you say about

  • id like to put my fingers in :)

  • I love learnig sign language im 10 and my cousin is deaf so i really would like to comunicate with him better when i see himinstead of people translating it for me thanks for the vids!!! <3

  • i love the way you teach your signing: how you reshow a sign and explain it.

the only thing i dis like about your videos is how long your intros. since i watch many of you videos at a time its gets a frustrating have to skip over the same exact into overtime.

again love you'll work; i hope ull make a signal review that goes over all of thema again so those of us who review it more than once can skip over the intro

    plz and thank you

  • WHY DONT YOU ASSHOLES STOP CRITICIZING HER! IF ONE IS ABLE TO CONVEY ONES THOUGHTS TO A DEAF PERSON AND HAVE THAT VERY SAME PERSON UNDERSTAND EVEN 50% OF WHAT ONE IS ATTEMPTING TO CONVEY, THAT IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED!

YOU LEARN BY PLUNGING IN, NOT WORRYING ABOUT ALL THE INTRICATE BULLSHIT; THE SAME GOES FOR SPEAKING LANGUAGES AS WELL.

LONELY PLANET BOOKS SAY THIS VERY THING, AND I SPEAK 7 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, BUT ONLY WITH 50% IDEAS CONVEYED, BUT THIS IS ALL ONE NEEDS TO PUT YOUR IDEA ACROSS.

  • How about you stop cursing and calm down and people will actually listen to you ever thought of that?

  • wow this teacher is hot

  • How do you watch this is you're deaf?

  • @Malloryrocks21able haha yea ikr!

  • its not nice to say somink like that i havent found one comment say thax on any of her vidios and the poor women is trying her best and thax to her i can talk to my uncle!

  • @911Lolage in ASL? because my friend is deaf and uses ASL and im trying to learn how. cuz apparently this isnt ASL...

  • What's everyone complaining about - about not being ASL?

I've been studying her videos all night, trying to learn different nouns.

Are these nouns not usable in sentences with verbs and adjectives?

Because that'd mean I've been studying these for nothing.

For example, I learned "dirty," and "water."

Could I not find out how to say "I am," or "I drink," and use her words to make a sentence?

    Or are they wrong altogether?

    ......

  • On February 1, 2011, there will be a worldwide boycott on Youtube instead. That means all day, no one goes online on YT. We do this to show to the owners of YouTube, that they have turned the former YouTube with an advertising platform to make money. With power, copy this text and paste it into other videos. And please give this a thumbs up! I know that you guys can do that! Let's show YouTube that we want it that way. YOU Tube. OUR Tube.

  • my stepmom was deaf and what I didn't pick up I could spell rapidly and most deaf people I have met have no issue with me spelling out many words with them that I don't know and I was brought up immersed in German and English as a kid so when I sign I make the odd noises and make faces like deaf people because I picked up ASL the same way I did German from my Grandmother who was native German by imitation and the faces and noises are part of asl with deaf people as the rolling of r's to german..

  • I can only sign with the faces and odd noises that deaf people use and engage in and asl translators don't use or engage in... but in perspective, with German students and learners who are Americans are blind to the German rolling of r's and many can't roll their r's even when fluent in German after 20 years as a German scholar with a PhD, speaking perfect German... it just isn't possible for people to speak in a native fashion from a classroom setting even if they are quick learners...

  • well do you have a link in which we could go to to learn ASL instead of what she is teaching?

  • My mom is half deaf and has been teaching me since i was 5yrs old. and i even found this help ful.lol

  • lol im taking asl in high skool this will help alot lol

  • @killerflubber well obviously u don't talk while signing she is just doing it to help teach!

  • @ladybugs221 Actually many signers can read lips, so it is always great to annunciation your words while doing thew signs...

  • @ladybugs221 Actually many signers can read lips, so it is always great to annunciation your words while doing the signs...

  • @bleedingorangejuice not always.. reading lips is very hard to learn since you have to learn the millions of ways people form their lips to say words.. think about it..and next time ur watching tv or somethin put it on "mute" and try t read their lips..i bet u cant..

  • @pizzalasanga26 I can, and I said "many signers" meaning that many signers can, I know not all can.

  • i can't see anything !! the picture is covered by written words... how can i fix it ???

    it's crazy!! ... i tryed all the bottons ...

  • ExpertVillage pays her a percentage based on how many people watch her videos. She knows absolutely NOTHING about sign language and simply learned these signs from a book. She is abusing Deaf people's natural language in order to make money for herself. Please share this with everyone! My sign language teacher is deaf and has taught me how to respect and you don't talk while you sign.

  • ugh i wish they did these in british sign language, american is no good to me lol

  • She is NOT representing deaf people's natural language. She has no business meddling our language and turn around teach you as American Sign Language. This is not even ASL. Shameful.

  • these vdieos are really helpfull

  • in and out look like fisting LMFAO

  • @CashProuductions like mr. Eat Da Poo Poo would say lol

  • thank you soooo much this is so helpful!

  • Cool in and out, now If I can figure out how to say Vagina!

  • @CTastic1 lmao i can tell you...you make a shape if a triangle with both of your hands..facing down..near your chest...lol..i hope that helps

  • ASL only uses these signs for emphasis. ASL uses Classifiers and other ways of showing these concepts.

Good luck on learning from her because if you learn English signing first it will be almost impossible for you to learn true ASL.

  • THis is helping me so much! thank you

  • wow now i can sing like justin bieber

  • wow these r sign that ill never forget....simple and easy

  • I like the hand gesture when she does "in"

  • @suuchi HAHAHA Jeee I wonder why.

  • She is signing words and concepts out of CONTEXT.

This would be like learning French by picking up a dictionary and putting it in english word order.

  • What's she talking aboot? Any how come in the last video she kept saying "surry" instead of sorry? I smell a Canadian!

    Also.. love these videos =)

  • "Your numbers, your numbers, your 123s" We get it lady!! God. i feel like such a 5 year (notthat there's anything wrong with 5 year olds..thier cute hehe) when she talks to me! Damn!

  • @AngelOfDarkness1311 chill man, this is for ppl who are just starting. yeah she is a bit repetative but that's her job. she has to repeat every word on the list so im sure she just accidentally repeated her sentence XD it happens.

  • like drinking, but make a fist instead of an open hand

  • these clips have been most helpful to me, thank toy for posting these. =)

  • Your good

  • you guys also need to remember she's also not teaching you syntax or grammar so even if you put a few of her "signs" together, you're not communicating a full phrase or sentence, just a couple of random words together. And some of her signs are not just a regional difference, they're signed English signs which is NOT ASL!

  • @beth4chris1 I agree with you. This woman knows NOTHING about ASL. She simply learned a bunch of signs from a book (incorrectly too) and is pretending to be a teacher so that she can make money from ExpertVillage on these videos. She is taking advantage of the Deaf and is really messing up a beautiful language just so she can make some money. Everyone, PLEASE click on "dislike!!!"

  • @beth4chris1 At the same time however, many deaf people will not sign the full grammatical sentence. Shortening it up to the few main components, especially when signing with people they are comfortable with. Such as their family.

  • @beth4chris1 ....what?

  • @beth4chris1

well maybe u ought to teach us how to talk and sign

  • Sign language has not articles. There is not "and, are, is," ect. So you can put signs together and make sense.

  • This lady is a good teacher! =)

    Thank you!

  • sign language sis wicked cool it soo easy to learn from this woman shes soo hott

  • HOLY CRAP, ive memorized 40 of these in one day! ive been

doing this all day and i can say a few scentences now!

    IN ONE DAY!

  • People, people. Goodness gracious.

If you have learned other signs for these, it is because she lives in a different region. Different places have different variations for signs. Just like in english, how words become popular in one place, but not another.

The majority of signs have variations.

  • so she's not teaching it wrong like a lot people have been saying, it's just a different way of communicating the same thing?

  • @brolli4454 No, she IS teaching it wrong. I'm a certified ASL teacher and I can quite accurately tell you this woman knows nothing about ASL.

  • dis lady is good

  • Hey its better to try than not. if make mistake. no worry about it, they see you try.I am H of H and i do the same but my deaf friends understand cuz what the lady not tell is use your mouth when signing some can read lips as mine do.Its alot of fun. my level is grade 3-6 and still English mixed in okay. np and sk

  • I was upset to see so many people saying these signs were wrong. I wanted to learn because I met someone who is deaf and I thought it would be nice. I asked for Water and the sign this video series taught was wrong. She shows three fingers flat just like the letter "W" in front of her chin. The hand is actually supposed to be pointed outward and to the side. I kind of felt like a fool signing lots of wrong things.

  • They (expert village) should remove her videos, the problem is, she gets lots of views because she fools people into thinking that she is an expert, when she is not an expert. So, unfortunately, if you learn from her, you will embarrass yourself, but worse, you will have to "unlearn" what she teaches.

  • whats wrong with what shes Teaching?

i heard several people say that BUT what is she doing wrong? & why don't you mention it to

    Expert village?

  • Pointing out every mistake she makes would be time-consuming and also pointless. Problem number one is that she is spreading misinformation about the language when she equates signs with English words. Signs do not represent English words, they represent concepts or ideas. It is not a "manual representation of English."

  • I have mentioned it to Expertvillage and their reply is, "we do not verify expertise." Clearly not.

  • if these are not the right signs then what the hell is she teaching us!!

  • lol

  • cant believe these people are alowed to represent expert village! for those whodo not know as you are just learning, like i was last year;

in/out can be signed numerous ways in relation to context.. you wouldn't say "HE went IN the house" by showing a hand going IN a cup! that just says something is going into a cup. lol. you'd set up a house (draw it with hands infront of you) and then move a hand towards it (one finger up would represent the "HE" part).. silly people :)

  • Yep. She is a broadcasting personality that learned SEE from a book maybe? Not an expert in ASL by ANY stretch of the imagination. Check out BYUFanatic on YouTube. He is an expert. Thanks.

  • @terryj1980 ~ I don't know anything at all, so I am a total beginner. I am a grandmother with toddler twins who use sign language, so I just need to START learning. I am sure that eventually, those who need more info, like the grammar, go on to learn that, if they want it. It is certainly helpful to have some basic words, and then build on the basics.

  • SOOO WRONG!!!!!!! BSL stands for British Sign Languate! not Basic!!

  • its american...that says it all! haha

  • Ok, are these signs the real thing or is this woman incorrect?

  • There are different signs for each of the words. The different signs are used in different contexts. When signing ASL it is important to remember it is all about concepts, not about the actual words. English doesnt translate perfectly to ASL. Dont rely on Expervillage to be accurate

  • @Seabearr This woman is definitely incorrect.

  • everyone complains about expert village... they just suck at everything

  • hot

  • Those of you that think the video is WRONG...its not its just a different way of doing it. There are many different ways of signing something. It just depends on where you are from.

  • Those of you that keep defending this "expert" need to recognize that this is not a different way of signing, nor is it an accent. It is simply WRONG. That's right, it's WRONG and any Deaf person could tell you that. She got this job how? By being hearing and pretty, since she HAS NO QUALIFICATIONS to teach sign language.

  • how do you sign whats wrong?

  • Thank you!

  • you're so sweet and helpful! thank you! ^_^

  • 2:03 no lube.haha

  • hahahaha

  • I love!!!!!! Melissa, I have central audatory processing disorder, so she really helps me

  • this person makes constant mistakes. i'd suggest everyone learn from someone else.

  • How so?

  • sorry for the misspelled words. I was tired

  • oh, jesus, thank you for the apology!

i wouldn't have known what to do about you without it!

  • lov these vids, work in the healthcare and need this so very much, should I take classes would really love to be able to communicate with some of my patience that is hearing impaired to assure them with the things I want them to do for instance in therapy I think it will make them comfortable because I will be able to explain things and just communicate with them because they look so fighten after surgery and having pain and having someone doing thereapy and they don't know what to expect.

  • You should take classes! It's very fun and your patients will be better served if you can communicate with them.

  • Awesome, my dads deaf and I only know some of the basics, so this helps out alot!!...plus i wanna get nosey when hes talking to a friend on sorenson video convo lol

  • Probably better to learn from your Dad, as this person makes constant mistakes.

  • Yeah a bunch of things I learned and signed to my dad he didn't understand what I meant, and told me she was prolly doing the new age thing lol ಠ_ಠ

  • thats really mean posting urself as sumthing ur nt people want 2 learn nt get cheated by in a different language

  • She makes constant mistakes and is not teaching ASL. See BYUFanatic for someone who knows what he is talking about and is actually a teacher of ASL. This woman is a broadcasting personality, not an ASL teacher.

  • Can you please correct the subtitles on all these BSL videos so that we can watch them correctly. Thank you.

  • It's not BSL or ASL, it's "signed English" and also she makes lots of mistakes. Why? She is neither Deaf nor an ASL instructor. So she is not an expert.

  • out is wrong... you cup your left hand and you pull your right 5 hand out of the bottem

  • you are wrong. she is correct you pull your right 5 hands out from the top. I have the sign book and it clearly shows, the hands pulling out from the top. I have deaf friends and they use the same sign.

  • sori, but u sed "5 hands".. haha. :D

i dont think we hv tht many

    :D

  • omfg i know sign language that's so wrong ! and how many times you want to repeat something something something

  • i agree with Banerika!

  • Hey everyone, don't watch this one, find the one with the actual deaf person on expert village, for ASL. She has shorter dark curly hair and she knows what she is doing.

  • gosh this lessons are so easy to understand! thanks u so much, great way of learning ASL.

  • a good idea would be to put the words in the video in the description

  • yeah thats pretty cool. I had a friend taught me one night at bar over a few drinks for some reason I dunno? THat was a few weeks ago. Funny then I guess I got hooked and wanted to learn more! Never thought the day I'd be so interested , but I am now?! So next time I see her, Im going to sign language her ear off!

  • Wow so easy to learn! 5 words a day is a good start =)

  • cool ;D

  • hi there expert village thing you for show sign language video what you do is very important to person ho want to lean how sign language. thank you expert village.Keep up the good work.

  • i like sign language! Please keep these vids up because i want to learn

  • ok im 11 also and im learning this and i already know most of these words!!!!!

  • very good! i am 11 and this is so easy

  • i learn from my deaf friend

  • Where did you learn to sign?

  • i love this

  • this is fun :D

  • oh ok thanks

  • does it matter if you do these with your left or right hand?

  • yes it does it depends on if ur lefty or righty....

  • Thanks but what i meant was wether the same sign done with the left hand can have a different meaning than when its done on the right hand?

  • it doesn't matter which side you sign with. just do the sign with the dominant hand. many signs are close enough that particular distinctions between sides will not be a big deal. keep practicing!

  • Please tell me this is English sign language lol

  • she forgot on and off or is it in the next vid

  • it's in this vid at 1:42

  • I was able to learn and memorize every video you have in 2 hours. Your videos are GREAT!!!!!!

  • cool, i love it.

I will try to learn 5 words each day.

  • great videos !!

  • I like her easy way of teaching ASL.

  • my girlfriends parents are deaf and i've been watching your videos to help me sign and i just want you to know these videos are excellent! :):)!!! great work
