  • Jimmy Boughton (drummer for the Mellophonics) committed suicide in L.A. after the death of his Mother. Lee Peters ( lead singer for Mellophonics and Collage) not sure but I heard that it was due to heart problems, Ricky Gilmore (bassist for Mellophonics, Parliament / Funkadelics) I hear it was also heart problems.

  • The lead singer is Lee Peters from Sacramento. He started out in the top rated band in Sacramento called The Mellophonics, Also in the band was bassist Ricky Gilmore who went on to play for Parliament. My cousin Jimmy Boughton, drummer extraordinaire, Mr. Desmangles lead guitar, and Malcolm, the smooth falsetto vocalist. Lee Peters passed away in the late nineties and Jimmy passed away in the late eighties. Two talented brothers are gone.

  • @raymondboughton55

Wow! How did the band members die?

  • Collage was SOLAR's raw answer to Heatwave (funky multi-racial band where all members play their own instruments)! They were great, but I think they needed other producers (eg Fenderella, Leon Sylvers, Calloway Team) for their funky grooves instead of the Whispers (leave them for the slow jams)!

  • Wow!!!! Been looking for this tune for soooo many years!!!!! Forgot it was Collage, kept thinking Shalamar, love this tune!!!!!! Thanks soooooooo much for the post!!!!

  • @heyroz27 and tkodahawk: Looked for this song since 89, when I lost the single. a remake is in order and I'm doin it, with a flute overlay. The bass is bumpin. Yeah I used to sing this and the ladies just ate it up. Most never heard it outside L.A. You get 5 stars again heyroz27. Now if you can help me find "Tender" by Carrie Lucas I'd be more than a fan. You are the shiznit.

  • Thanks heyroz27 for the post, I honestly felt Collage was a very underrated group in the Solar stable, and I felt they deserved more love than they got.

    Croon3

  • Juillet14, i agree

  • Funny how some songs just take you back, and make you remember the good old days, when we had real great music.

  • Wicked tuuuuuuuuuuuune!

They don't make them like this no more...

  • Wicked track...back then i remember this got jammed after the mainstream nightclubs and Disco's had closed...(back then at 2am)...then it was off to the local illegal blues club in a cellar or garage somewhere til 6am....wicked...Terry

  • high school memories thanx for memories

  • Wow. Forgot this one. Thanks for posting.

  • What a track! I was living out at Tulare, while this was playing I was trying to fight off a Gila monster. Man that sun was beating down, making that monster irritable. I left it and went dancing back to my garage to the sounds of Collage to work on my Avenger. I flew to Encinitas the next day. Great old times! Great music!

  • oh my wicked wicked time when this came out

soul at its best ..80s rule

  • I love this song to the most. Beautiful. Todays pitiful effort simply does not compare. This is where music is truly at. the 80's. I never could decide which one i liked the most, this one or Lowrell's Mellow Mellow (right on) hmmmmmmm.....thinking

  • Whenever someone asks me to make them an "old school" cd, I slip this song on it and everyone just love it. Radio today is not worth listening to.

  • I'll never forget the first time I heard this was on KUOP in Stockton California they use to jam there station from the campus. Brian Sampson played all the jams when they first came out man this bring back so many memories. Music was the best during the 80's great vocals, harmonies and song writing. Im so glad I was in junior high and high school when so many great acts were just coming on the music scene. How did Lee Peters pass and may God rest his soul.

  • This was my jam back in the day..I could sing it word for word in my moms bedroom mirror..it was that hot when it came out..

  • Lee Peters and Collage represented Sacramento and the Glen Elders to the fullest. He was the voice, sounded a little like Howard Hewitt. Man this song brings back memories of them playing at the state fair. "Winners and losers" is another great song from Lee! I'm so glad I found their double cd on the net. Lee R.I.P. brother your memory lives on.

  • I just heard it on the radio a long time ago I don't know more. Thanks

  • This was an all out hit during my childhood growing up in NY. Although it didn't peak as high as it should've on the R&B Billboard charts, again, this song got major spins up top. SOLAR was still in its prime and unstoppable like the legendary Motown, Stax, and Philly labels. COLLAGE didn't at all get the spotlight deserved. This same song was penned by the talented Whispers' member Nicholas Caldwell. COLLAGE was even their back-up band at one time.

  • OMG All These years I swore this was Sharlimar w/Howard Hewitt as lead!

  • lol they were all on the same label that's probably why they sound familiar.

  • @heyroz27 yes,shalamar,the whispers,dynasty,lakeside.to name just a few .solar records

  • @BXCALI i would have mistook them for "SLAVE" too

  • @BXCALI Shalamar if at all :)

  • @BXCALI told u all he had that voice..

  • this bassline was sampled by ant banks "big thangs"

  • Gosh, makes me think of Granny's house and watching Soul Train when I was a little guy ... good times!

  • Wow! One of those 80s jams that have been forgotten. This is actually in my ipod.

  • Never knew that this was Collage, the only song that I knew is "When You Smile". One of my all time favourite songs. Loved growing up in the 80's!

  • This Is my Ultimate Cool/Player/wanna be mack-daddy Jam!

  • SUMMER LOVE "83"!

  • love it, now this was music. soul, funk, all day everyday

  • "Move In Time " is another sweet song from that soul era from them.Doubt it was made a single, talkless of a video. But after "Romeo Where's Juliet", "Move In Time" is my 2nd best from them..Another good single by Collage was "Young Girls" from 83.

  • This song is the shit.

  • Man, this was my jam. '83 was my sophomore year in college and we used to pump this at the beginning of parties. It was a starter type mellow record before the hip hop and house.

  • This is my uncle lee's music. It is sincerely great to read from fans how this music touched their lives. Lee's music is in constant rotation in my household and family gatherings.

What a breath of fresh air. Technology is grrrrrrrrreat!

  • Heyroz27, I want to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. I have been looking for it for years in any media I could find, and it has been impossible to find until now. Thanks again... One of my favorite songs from when I was in college!!!

  • sorry im checking my comments late, but you're so welcome :)

  • This is My cousin LeeLee's band from back in the day! May he rest on peace! You are missed every day my brother... I remember every song and every band you were in. Even you and cousin Butch's first song "Fry Man" back in was it forth or fifth grade.... And the good old "Black Rose" days when you would always spotlight me and my dates and sing me a special slow jam! Class act. There can never be another.

  • classic collage man..cannot find their videos though.fell in love with them when i heard "Romeo Where's Juliet?" from 1985. Music like this is non existent int hese lame times.

  • I was looking for a video by them too. Did they ever have one out during that time?

  • They probably did.Don't trust youtube as the beginning & the end of all things. Many videos are not here by other groups man. I believe they did. Some are just very rare and extremely hard to come buy.Just like some groups albums and popularity was thin, and just a flash of the moment, expect their vidoes to be hard to come by.

  • @EBISECYBOTRON

Unidisc channel (who owns SOLAR/Contellation artists like Collage, Midnight Star, The Whispers, Shalamar, Dynasty, Lakeside, Klymaxx, Carrie Lucas, Grady Harrell, and The Deele) has uploaded several music videos by the artists under the roster. I am not sure if Collage released any music videos (I'm sure they had since Dick Griffey pushed hard for promotions), but that I know there are several videos that exist that Unidisc has yet to upload (e.g. Carrie Lucas's videos).

  • oh my god , this song is one of my old school jams thankyou!!!

  • un classique merci à toi de le mettre sur youtube.

  • okporoko agbia oloshi olodorabata no sabi ashewo, okirika wake up, na eem bi say na agidi we go chop. Afikpo tuomo oboye akpu fo mile tere market. you sabi am???
