@LilmissDrummajor2012 I am playing this for my All-District band too :) i'm second flute. I played Solas Ane last year in my school band on bass clarinet and fell in love with Hazo's gorgeous pieces! Good luck on that solo :)))
I'm so excited to play this.... District Band 2012- first chair alto sax ♥ I got the solo... I hope I can do it justice. This piece is so beautiful.. I get chills. Tears welled up in my eyes as I followed along with my music. Beautiful.
I wish my band was capable of playing music like this. I'm the only person in my band that owns and has played soprano sax, and I'm a trumpet player lol. That's the one thing I hate about being a small town school, there's just little to no musical exposure for our students and they have no drive to challenge themselves.
@SpartyOn2013 my school, we had to go to a state assessment each year...and if we failed the band program got permanently shut down...so we always strived for perfection..this song was actually one years final. we beasted the hell out of it and got straight superior ratings across the board. one of the happiest years of my life
@shinglesofzeflute we won. trumpets had a trio with this. we played each time you tell their story, summer dances, this, and raging machines. we closed with each time you tell their story. that last 40 seconds was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. im from lewis cass btw. class d state champs
It is just beautiful. It makes me cry everytime. I love this piece of music! Samuel Hazo is an excellent composer. Hope he can compose more music like this. It's a pity that I have no chance to play this music T.T
played this freshman year as 3rd chair trumpet on 2nd part. best slow song ive ever played. it was kinda funny cause we followed this with The Washington Post March :D
This song means so much to me. My band director conducted this song before he left is for another school, and it brought everyone to tears, even himself. I really moss him.....
when i first heard this song... i shed a tear. it was and is so beautiful. especialy whith the base clarinets. and the trumpets at the end, oh my god.
I agree. While most of his slower pieces are better than his uptempo ones, Hazo is definitely a brilliant composer. His music just takes you places. (: We're playing this in my ensemble and it's brilliant.
i played this in symphonic band this piece is very musical only one page of music but it is still difficult to play effectively. to paint the crowd a beautiful picture of the rolling hills in ireland or scotland one of the two
My band played this and got all superior ratings at GMEA. Some of the audience members were crying and it was complete silence. People from other schools were so amazed they were shaking our hands.
well, we have an opener and closer which are more fast paced with really intricate movements. this was our ballad. it worked out. we got first at state fair, out of 44 bands.
our college band is playing this for symphonic band :D :D :D :D i LOVE playing bass drum for this song :D :D :D :D :D
