i think more companies making computers that run Mac OS is a bad idea. what keeps them good is that they do it all themself. The more thats comes out the more viruses and bad products will come out!
I've had issues with sl as well. Logic pro has quit unexpectedly three times. My system should be more then capable of running it smoothly. The first time I lost all my music. The other times I was smart about and save every couple of minutes. The endless spinning beach balls is a pain as well. Especially when there are no other apps running and my comp was working fine a moment agoa
Exactly! Apples hardware and software goes hand in hand! Microsoft produces the software and other companies produce the hardware -- huge disadvantage.
Apple might be higher priced but their products WORK and they don't need replacing every six months! Windows PCs are CHEAP for a reason!
Apple's OS might take some getting used to for people transitioning from Windows but once you get the hang of it, you find it's much simpler.
I've used Snow Leopard since its release and I've had no issues.
I had to find ways around to make snow leopard working ok for me. it gave me so many problems that I want to downgrade to leopard. kind of like downgrading to xp from vista was actually more like an upgrade for me! hopefully apple will fix the problems.
I do not view Psystar's defeat as a good thing. The mere fact that someone attempts to provide a cheap alternative to the expensive Apple hardware is making a statement.
Apple will never build OS X OEM versions. The 10% of the market they control is the profit zone in terms of technology. Microsoft looses out because most of their OEM software (i.e. the version of windows you get "free" on your new dell etc.) is a "loss leader", i.e. they loose money willingly to make the brand huge, only making money in corporate licenses.
As stupid as Psystar's business plan is, they did not use pirated copies of OS X. That's shooting yourself in the foot. Do you really think that many people bought their computers? The idiots tried to sell an "OpenMac" - that's just asking to get completely fucked in the ass by Apple.
Psystar FTW! Down rank me to oblivion if you must, but i only bought a Mac for OS X, the iMac was fine but not worth the money, this Macbook Pro has caused me hell from day one.
I don't want overpriced hypeware, just OS X. Apple has the holy grail of operating systems and is crippling it more day by day.
I'm going back to the only platform that isn't completely controlled by one big brother unit, that gives me choice, PC.
I hear what you're saying but if you open a Macbook/iMac and look at the hardware, then cost the same equipment at a store, you're getting a good deal in the Mac.
Apple buy the highest-end versions of each piece of hardware. This is why it's more expensive. Core2Duo, for example, has a LOT of flavours - and the ones Dell etc. buy are the lower end ones. Apple want to ensure the experience is 1. consistent and 2. reliable. Worth paying for, IMO :)
Yeah, you price out a Dell Studio XPS 13 and 13" MBP with the same specs (_same_ processor model, _same_ RAM, etc.) and the price difference is probably $200 (in favor of the Dell) - and what, you get Magsafe, FireWire 800, the best trackpad available in a consumer machine, an arguably better built-in webcam, and a much better looking machine than the Dell.
The difference is that with Dell, you can opt to remove features you don't want. With the Mac, it's take it or leave it.
oh, and I forgot to mention, you can save those $200 if you buy the exact same machine refurbished from Apple. I've recommended refurbished Macs to friends and family and they've all been very happy with their purchases. Refurbished machines from other manufacturers are a hit and miss - some have a very stringent refurbishment process like Apple's, and others, to avoid cost, just throw it back out on the market with the minimal warranty they can offer and hope it sells.
hmm, i remember the days when Dave praised the macintosh, now almost every vid of his contains some kind of floor with OS X even something as minor as imovie not opening correctly...
Yeah, Dave not very happy with macintosh anymore. I think he is going to go back to Windows full time down the road. Too many digs per video about macs.
Honestly, you can pay $600 for a computer that features OS X, but you're only getting the virtual experience. I've always yearned for a macbook, and when I finally made the decision to buy one in the last few months, I noticed that people don't only love this for the software's seamless functionality, but they also love it for its super comfortable keyboard, the super huge mousepad, the pretty casing... It's these small things that you don't get with Psystar that make a Mac... A Mac.
Psystar's position with respect to Mac OS X Snow Leopard is analogous to that of a person developing a software application to run on top of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Just as Microsoft writes Word to run with Mac OS X and Google writes its Web browser Chrome to run with Mac OS X, Psystar writes its software to run with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
In fact, the part of Mac OS X Snow Leopard that Psystar interacts with is within the open-source portion of Mac OS X and makes use of features of Mac OS X Snow Leopard designed to allow software developers to extend Mac OS X Snow Leopard to work with different hardware.
What Psystar is referring to here is of course the open source portion of Mac OS X, Darwin, which is perfectly fine to hack. Running custom kernels on Mac OS X is perfectly normal - it's just that many people who install Mac OS X on non-Apple labelled computers use this to create custom kernels better suited for their hardware.
Psystar is also referring to Mac OS X drivers, known as kexts, which are used to extend the hardware support for Mac OS X. This is of course also a perfectly valid use of Mac OS X's capabilities - imagine not being allowed to write drivers for Mac OS X!
There's no reply yet from Apple, so we'll have to wait what Apple has to say about this one. The open source and kext arguments are strong ones indeed, maybe strong enough to win
i bought a macbook pro because i was really bored of vista and i was disappointed that i didnt get any word or presentation programs on it, i know i shouldve researched it but still, £900 for a computer with hardly anything on it!!!
Can someone tell me... does RTAS have a similar, or more overhead on your system then VST? Just wondering because i am use to producing music in programs usig VST on windows and am thinking of using logic on a mac...
Why mention just OSX or W7 as chioces? There is another viable one: a free Linux distribution, like Ubuntu. I hate if people just mention those 2 as if nothing else would exist.
In my limited opinion Apple should be allowed to say specificly what their software can be installed, after all they built it. Down with the Hackintoshs
hmm i dont think that viruses are a problem, they are just a problem if they are social engineered hacks... but the mac is not prone as long as you dont install things that you dont know what they are.
I don't know why so many people are having problems with snow leopard, I haven't ha one problem and all I did was the upgrade from leopard, not the fresh install. If you are having too many problems just do a fresh install and it should be fine. Great Discussion Video!
I'm glad that Psystar will be defeated in the near future. OS X is just made for Mac computers. It is just not designed for anything else. Don't mix things up.
@DGPROproductions It doesn't matter they go out of buisness or not I just downloaded and install the Mac OS Hackintosh / PC... I mean any one can download it ...

There is one thing if I were you to do a review on, Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is a free and open source alternative to Windows and Mac.
It's a very fast, very stable, very addictive operating system. I have installed it on my Acer Aspire and it has been an excellent experience.
Personally, I have said goodbye to Windows and I mean all versions from Win95 to Win7. I am not switching back to Windows.

I am currently experiencing a lot of spinning beach balls, app freezes and glitches in Snow Leopard
I was only using Leopard for a couple of months before I upgraded to Snow Leopard so I haven't got much to compare my current experience to
But OS X is not as stable an operating system as many youtubers suggest it is
