  • HAHA! 0:14 Vinny picks his pants out of his asshole! awesome vid, i love vin he's the best

  • What a drummer!!!!!

  • magnifico!!!!

  • Brilliant, a pop song in 5/4 that just flows along smoothly thanks to Vinne.

  • This Oslo show should have made it to DVD... alas the only copies are VHS from the TV. Come on Sting... release it. With a Vinnie only mix as a bonus. :-)

  • its funny how all the comments about this song is about vinnie, everyone knows he is the highlight of this song.

  • @semajgnik It's all about the V Man. :)

  • 0:14 Vinnie picks wedgie.

  • Vinnie on fire

  • Vinnie must be the greatest living musician we have correct? I cannot come up with a greater drummer live or dead.

  • @calicopark Mike mangini is monster aswell. can really do everything but is les musical.

  • @DrummerRF Mike Mangini is not musical at all in my opinion ...

  • 5/8

  • @jts024 5/4 actually

  • amazing!!!

  • How "up his own ar-e" to introduce Dominic Miller as "his guitarist".

He should have passed the mic to Dominic Miller so that he could announce..."this is Sting, my singer"!

  • yo right my friend ego issues i guess

  • Should have made this song in 7 instead of 5 lol still good song

  • Damn I am gonna buy this song!! its sooooo good!

  • @masakazu3508 album(CD) is "ten summoners' tales"...entire album is awesome!!

  • 4:43 to 4:47 insane!!!

  • @dondinoy Tis good, but it's the bit before me that gets me. The bit you're talkin about is really just bounce triplets over something they have no business being over. The bit before that is rhythm that would take scientists and mathematicians a great many years trying to work out what the fuck is going on.

  • @ShaneMcD77 yep, 4:25 to 4:36 was trippy.

  • @ShaneMcD77 The amazing part is that during those 8 or so measures of rhythms, he gets the snare on beat 4 every time.

  • @ShaneMcD77 I wonder wether the 4:43 to 4:47 bit is RLL phrased over sixteenths. Because its over 5 it sounds insane. Not saying I would have come up with it!! ... make that 32nds

  • @ShaneMcD77 There's nothing overly complicated going on just before 4:43.

  • @Oxpost I think 4:43 onwards is far less complicated that the section just before it. As I'd said, as far as I can hear, 4:43 just started with a series of bounce triplets - RLL RLL with the R on the bell of the ride and the LL on the HH. As @PoloABD mentioned, it's likely to be "32nds" but, in this time sig (where there's 5 counts split into 10 pulses on the ride) its "20s" counted in RLLRLL. The whole outro is split into 20s and the part just before 4:43 is VERY rhythmically complex.

  • Vinnie's underwear tug @ 0:14!!! CLASSIC!

  • @akivapotok What you're saying doesn't even make sense. Playing quarter notes in 7/8 would be this:

    7/8 Q's accented: 0-0-0-0|-0-0-0-|

  • @NoseBleedrummer 7/8 -2= 5/8 jajajajajajaja no 7/8 r u musician, drummer or percussionist?? i dont thing so....

  • Comment removed

  • @tunptl18 Did Stewart ever play this?

  • @ShaneMcD77 i think not....

  • @ShaneMcD77 that's my bad, thought he played on the album. Vinnie did...still...he's awesome lool

  • 5/8 at least the drums are. Plus Sting's count in is to the measure of 5/8.

  • 5/4 guys!

  • 5/8

  • Is that in 5/4?

  • @StSteveofthejobs 5/4, 5/8, I dunno, ask Vinnie - he's a fuckin fucker... :) Am gonna post a video response to this of another song in 5 somethin. It's a band I was in and the drum part is inspired by this song and the ideas around it. The live version of the song is better because we used to jazz it up a bit, but, alas, all you'll get is the studio version. It's gonna be posted as a response to this........... NOW! :)

  • @ShaneMcD77 Alright, very interesting... and yes, Vinnie is... dammit, what is he? ;-)

  • @gavinmart He counted He counted to 10 in groups of 5 - "1 2 3 4 5, 2 2 3 4 5."

  • @ShaneMcD77 right you are!

  • @StSteveofthejobs given the faster tempo, 5/8 is most likely how youd notate it

  • @StSteveofthejobs The meter is a play on title "Seven Days". It's in 7/8. Vinnie is playing quarter note accents on the hi-hat, so the accent shifts from the beat to the off beat notes over a two bar pattern. Could explain the confusion.

  • @akivapotok It's not in 7. Saint Augustine In Hell is in 7; Love I Stronger Than Justice is in 7 - and Vinnie deals with these songs similarly to Seven Days as far as what's going on on top accent-wise versus what's going on in the groove is concerned, but Seven Days (although it would be nice for the signature to be set to the title) is certainly not in 7. Sting counts 2 groups of 5 at the start indicating that it's either in 5/4 or 5/8 - whichever gets the most Google hits I guess! :D

  • @StSteveofthejobs

    I'm sure it's 5/8, 5/4 alternatively. It's not 7/8 for sure. BTW Vinnie is a GENIUS!!! :)

  • @mikedrummer00 it is 6/8 ;)

  • @kevyomen I assume by the winky smiley that you're joking? :P

  • @ShaneMcD77 yes haha

  • @StSteveofthejobs Yes that is a 5/4 !

  • @StSteveofthejobs i can't count it without drugs

  • I pride myself on the fact that drums have been my bread and butter for 24 years now........ then i watch Vinnie play...... it always makes me feel like turning my drums in to flower pots.

  • 0:15 Wedgie :)

  • I was just moved in a way that only music.. beautiful, amazing music could ever and will ever do. I dont know what to say accept thank you. I'm smitten by this.. and eternally inspired. Vinnie, Sting, all of them.. thank you.

  • Vinnie, Vinnie, Vinnie. Quite simply outstanding. As a drummer, It's truly inspiring to watch and listen to...other days I feel like quitting but that doesn't last long.

  • normally i would (and generally i do) agree with all of you guy's - on vinnie being the best, but here it seems just a bit 'business as usual' to me (having have heard many versions of the tune)

  • @SuperHighGloss I personally think it's one the most tasteful drumwise. The difference between this and the studio version drumwise is remarkable - although the studio version is the song that brought my attention to Vinnie. I wouldn't say so much "business as usual" than effortless. The whole band is on fire!

  • Vinnie!

  • Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine Band. In Irresistable form.

  • Vinnie absolutely kills it! the whole band does, what a great group, Sting and his guys are just amazing by far

  • @SUNSNARE06 Vinnie is the Bruce Lee of drumming. :)

  • Jesus.... One of my favourite Vinnie performances. Stellar.

  • VINNIE IS THA FUCKIN' BOSS. PERIOD.

  • Almost the same lick verbatim as the Letterman show... But the blowing on the out chorus is just sick. Mr. Colaiuta.. I love you!

  • VINNIEE!!!!!!

  • 5/8 FTW Vinnie Colaiuta FTW2X

  • vinnie's the shit.

  • colaiuta la levanta en pala!

  • Stings best band by far!!

  • Vinnie Colaiuta I salute you. You truly are the dogs balls!

  • When Sting said, "C'mon Vinnie" he knew he's got the best drummer in the World behind him. Period

  • Amen to that

  • @tzinguilev

People should learn to use other adjectives other than 'best'. It's one of the major illnesses found in you tube commentary. It's too, how should I put it -absolutist.

  • @Samsgarden But, here, hang on, Vinnie IS the best - the bestest drummer ever EVER. He's bester than ANYONE - ABSOFUCKINLUTELY!

  • @ShaneMcD77 Don''t dispute him!

  • @Samsgarden No no. He's right. Vinnie is the best. There are very few absolutes in the world but that one is, well, absolute.

  • @golferal Yes, it's as certain as the laws of physics - which Vinnie breaks.

  • @tzinguilev Vinnie is a great drummer for sure but not the best drummer in the world not by a long shot. As far as Stings drummers Omar Hakim was the best drummer he had. That band was his most expressive and soulful and simply can't be matched.

  • @CHC4669 Omar is a great drummer and was especially great with Sting, but he doesn't hold a candle to Vinnie.

  • @CHC4669 what about brian blade???

  • @loveisthelaw20042004 Nowhere close. @CHC4669

  • @tzinguilev

U Took the words out of my mind :)
