Holy shit...BamFor07 has already waltzed onto this video and started bragging about how GM is such a good car company and that everything GM fucks up on isn't their fault... Fail! Got Money?!?!?
SUV R a JOKE GAS WAS CHEAP ? know way you R BRAN WASH. 1978 I no we was being B WASH there was not much Gas lift so we got F... & GAS GOT hi 150to 180 a gal os we did not know we was geting Train like Mice now you r train by oil!!! & can't SEE SHIT BUT SUV?
Big oil will not allow technological advancements for batteries, because it will devalue their oil. they can't see far enough into the future that the EV industry can and will replace oil money.
Dont forget that more oil goes to China and India now then ever before, so if the oil companies dont allow technology to develop, price of gas will go so high because of supply and demand, we wont be driving anything at all. Im sure that we will be seeing better EVs sooner rather then later.
Here in Portugal, Madeira Island it´s even more dificult to see this theme on a public agenda. Portuguese seem to be interested only in acidents, and football.
The market will and must be allowed to dictate where the world will turn for its energy needs. Right now Internal combustion is still a fantastic buy. "Big Oil" is not the problemGM is not the problem the problem is that in the grand scheme of things the vast majority of cars sold in the world are ICE cars. The market will dictate when and how we move to hydrogeon, hybrids, natural gas etc no fear mongering or conspiracy theories etc. The market must be allowed to correct itself, it always does.
Why do people continue to insist they EV's don't exist because "people don't want them" The market for Electric vehicle is 100 times the size of the market for, lets say, hummers. Yet they're pumping them out as fast as they can.
There are hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, of people that are demanding them.
This "Market" is messed up. the Oil industries are spending millions of dollars to make damn sure that we never see an EV or even move beyond oil at all!
Not true with oil at $41 dollars a barrel there is no market for fully electric vehicles. Believing that the oil companies are behind the death of the old EV1 is ridiculous. Remember that car came out before the huge SUV craze even began, gas was cheap. I would suggest you do come research on the market before you try to comment on the size of one market compared to another. Big SUV's still outsell Priuses by a wide wide margin. Nothing wrong with big SUV's if people are willing to pay for them.
When GM stocks are essentially worthless, and the company is about to be liquidated, it will be bought for peanuts by Chinese "investors" who will swiftly move its production capacity to Asia. On that day, the entire North American continent will gasp in horror, but this is something that is bound to happen.
The Oil companies own America and the rest of the world so long as they make billions from oil they will NEVER allow a car completely oil free that's why the volt is still a Hybrid. Even though the technology for a completely electric car has been around for years!
The oil industry is burying the auto industry. No one can afford gas when it's above $4/gal. Even if you subscribe to the conspiracy theories, the fact that gas is so expensive will only drive consumers to want an alternative even more. During the 90's, no one apart from environmentalists really gave a damn about EVs. But now, with gas prices over $4/gal, people who didn't care about the environment suddenly want one because they are cheap (and domestic, and pro-national-security, etc...).
The question is.. why is japan making much better cars now? GM is killing itself.. because it's probably owned by the oil industry itself. And who said a car must run on oil?? That's what people think.
You tell us about GM.. i don't know if Dodge and Chevrolet is also owned by GM.
But since a few years america is trying to sell american cars here in europe.. I can tell you.
I expected alot MORE quality from amerika.. SERIOUSLY! Chinese plastic interiour.... etc etc. Everything looks cheap ass. And it ain't driving good. I am talking about a dodge something... and those chevy's are coming from ford. hehe.
Nader exposed GM's quality in his book "The screwing of the average man." That is why Japanese cars were so sought out during the 80's.Killing the electric car has been high on their list for obvious reasons. What else could it be?
We should support Trinity in its new retrofit process then, or some other company, instead of those companies we have known to rip us off. I'm sick to death of all the oil-related BS we've been put through by the oil schmucks, that kills our kids and the entire planet.
GM could not simply let people buy the EV1, rather than crush them, because the vehicles would become a liability. If something broke on your EV1 and you needed to fix it, how would you? If you wrecked while driving an EV1 and it burst into flames, the public would cry foul saying that 'GM sold you that dangerous car and left you hanging when you needed something'. Companies have a obligation to their stockholders and public image, just as much as they do to the public.
They might not have a legal obligation, but imagine for a second that you just bought a new shiny 2008 Toyota Camry. Two years down the road, the camshaft position sensor fails. How would you feel if Toyota decided to discontinue Camry CPS sensors, and you were just "out of luck"?
Actually, this happens EVERY DAY. They don't support ANY car, it's all third-party suppliers. In the case of the RAV4-EV, TOYOTA ABANDONED US COMPLETELY, won't even sell us replacement batteries (if they were needed).
I always hear these people saying, "GM killed the electric car." As if GM is the only one on the planet allowed to make electric cars. If so many people want them, then build one yourself and people will "wait in the rain to buy one from you. Who needs GM. There is plenty of money and know how out there to start building them. Stop complaining and get to it.
Well, you're wrong. The battery needed for the EV is the NiMH, it's the only proven and cost-effective battery. But GM bought control of the NiMH battery patents in 1994; on Oct. 10, GM sold to Texaco. Six days later, Texaco announced its merger into Chevron.
No, you're wrong. There are MANY different brands and makes of Ni-MH batteries on the market, many which are prefabricated just to make battery packs. GM may have sold THEIR patents to Texaco, but why does that matter? There are plenty of others.
Actually, GM had purchased the world-wide exclusive patent rights in 1994, and Chevron sued to stop Toyota from making batteries larger than the Prius.
The only large-format NiMH on the market are from Nilar, which uses public-domain Nickel technology.
Very true. Even if you could build the battery completely on your own, the second you start to make money, the "patent holders" would sue your ass off. Even if you weren't doing anything illegal you could be tied up in legal chaos for the rest of your life.

Buying a plug-in conversion kit for a Prius is an eco way to go.........not compleatly oil\gas free, but 125+ MPG is not bad.

GM fought against the EV from the start. It was renegade GM engineers who delivered the Impact, and GM spent years killing the idea.
First, in 1994, they bought control of the batteries, and tried to suppress them.
Now why would they do that??

tamatt, this is not true. They don't have any obligation to supply parts to used cars.

How do you think buyers felt when GM had them arrested??
liveoilfree 4 years ago
Good question, but bad example. You'd probably have that problem with an ICE vehicle, but not with an EV due to the simplicity.
