My 3g sign has just dropped out in the last couple of days and is now only showing the o with the clock rotating around it next to the signal bars, i can't get into the internet and when i do it is slow as, fuck phone companies, next g was suppose to be great, now we're up to 4g and it is still shit.
I usually have 4 bars solid Optus 3G in my room and I have a bumper case on my iPhone4. Without the death grip it varies between goes to 3-5 bars. With death grip it will go down to 3, sometimes 2 bars. Not like your dramatic signal drop so I think the bumper must help :-))
My wife has an iPhone 4 with telstra and mine is with Optus. I have done the same test with both phones and there is not even one bar lost with Telstra, and with Optus I lose all bars. I do not like Telstra but it is soooooo much faster than the Optus 3G network. Hate to admit it but it's true.
this happened with every iphone it doesnt matter what mobile carrier u are on. apple have released the 2nd batch of iphone 4 anyway which has the problem fixed.
i have no idea why people everywhere on the internet are saying that optus is shit everyone i know who is on optus says it it beautifull and cant get better. i have ordered my iphone 4(with optus) and is coming in in around a couple of days :)
Interesting... have had no issues at all with mine. You should check out our parody of an iPhone 4 unboxing video :D feedback would be helpful also. Just go to our page to check it out
It isn't a software fix... Your touching the 2 antennas together creating a bridge and destroying the signal, They would need to do a huge recall to fix it..
hey guys puting any case or even sticker vinyls(bottom left corner) on your iphone 4, would solve te issue, its no big deel unless your going to grip it really hard and, your left handed, updating to iOS4.0.1 also helps.
@Rafdaganga instead of making false assumptions and saying that its ant an issue without backing your response, i think it would be better if you kept your comment to your self, and just for the record im not a fanboy and never owned an apple product, except an ipod nano. i just thought that a big hype was being created out of something which only the minority are experiencing.
@sarahashlee13 unfortunately I have been unable to receive a "Bumper Case" from America as of yet. However, I am sure that it does fix the issue. I will be trying to get someone to send me a Bumper Case from overseas as soon as possible.
@Du4No there's no way holding the phone a certain way would cause the display to fault. The issue is in the design and placement of the antenna array inside the phone. When you're hand is in a certain position covering a particular area of the phone's rear plate, the antenna becomes insulated by your hand causing it to lose reception performance. I really fail to see how a "software fix" could possibly remedy this.
@salgurdar sorry, it's not the rear plate, it's actually the side of the phone that becomes insulated. Rumour has it a case can remedy this by isolating your hand from the stainless surround.
its a hardware issue, not a software issue, due to the fact it uses the stainless band for the aerial, when you touch this it changes the sensitivity of the aerial, best option is to put it in a case.

@TheJafari1 I assume you're a fanboy. It is an issue. Don't be so ignorant, it's a huge issue. The iphone 3g doesn't have that issue.

Do you actually lose signal or just the graphic of the bars go out on the screen?
Could you please test by talking with your right hand and then switch to your left hand and see if the phone goes out?
Thank you.
