Hi UclRichard, I repeated part of my post so you could read it with more open eyes this time. I'm only trying to help you. John Lennon was a depressed cynic who couldn't handle the world and so lashed out at anyone who he believed was so stupid as to actually like pop music. That meant Beatles' fans. So he buried himself in drugs, wrote Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (LSD, in case you didn't figure out that particular drug reference of Lennon's) and other such drivel..and still you're thrilled??
Pluto,The Beatles had more number 1 hits than anybody. They are the most universally liked band of all time no contest and also most influential. They have the most records sold by anybody ever by far. They're a record selling force even today. Lennon/McCartney is the most successful songwriting team of all time. How do you even have a leg to stand on in this? Oh and Hey Jude is NOT about heroin(don't know where that came from)and Lucy in the sky, depite the accidental initials, is not about LSD
Hi Mike, in time you will see the Beatles for what they were...a drug band. Hey Jude most certainly was about herion. "Jude' is the nickname for heroin in England. The line that goes "let it out and let it in, Hey Jude, begin.." is the technique for maximum rush that smackheads get by cyclically pushing in and then withdrawing the heroin through their syringe when first injecting per fix. It's a drug song. The Beatles wrote this drug song out of cynicism. Break the Beatles addiction. Love ABBA!
Hey Jude was written by Paul McCartney for John Lennon's son, Julian, to comfort him during Lennon's divorce from Julian's mother. Get your facts straight.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on the other hand...
On topic, the Mad Caddies version of this is much better. Good tune though.
NoCreaLaVerdad, first, the 'fact' that you claim cannot be confirmed, both because John Lennon never said or wrote that he dedicated 'Hey Jude' to his first son. Besides, those lyrics would be pretty stupid for such a dedication! Two, John Lennon's dead, so how are you going to ask him to prove your claim? Even Cynthia Lennon and Yoko Ono have never said that John told them he wrote 'Hey Jude' for Julian. It is obvious the cynical John Lennon, wrote the lyrics to worship heroin. ABBA rules!
Baloney. McCartney almost certainly said no such thing. Why on Earth would he write a song about someone else's son, when he had kids of his own? Also, the lyrics of the song, if not heroin-related, then make absolutely no sense at all. Some tribute song! Undoubtedly, the cynical, bitter John Lennon did write that song, to insult Beatles fans, whom he hated. Remember, Lennon was a neurotic who felt pop music was stupid, yet was trapped by it because it was the only 'talent' that he had.
plutoplatter--you've got it right! I've been trying to make this argument with people for years. What is so memorable about sos or dancing queen is, first, the MELODY, and second, the HARMONIES. No one does that anymore. Rock and roll seems dead to me. Today, musicians deliberately try to sound ugly. Nirvana was probably the beginning of the end.
I would like to add one more comment too. Actually, if you listen to Abba carefully, their songs have quite a bit of complex arrangements to them. I come from a musical family with actual degrees in music, and they also have told me that Abba is more complex than they are given credit for.
Couldn't have said it better than the host. Whatever it was LOL (don't speak Swedish). Anyway, this is my favorite ABBA song. Total pop with no apologies!
The only group TODAY to have knocked the Beatle's out of the title of the best-selling band in the world, thus for a short period of time (1977-1981).
it was the seventies.certain things were still primitive.you must understand that rock music groups didnt have access to top notch equipment when it came to video espeically.
I know - I remember them well. But even so - the frocks - the dancing - more or less contemporary with this, they were making much better promos (Knowing Me, Knowing You, for example)... not that it matters. It's kitsch rather than offensive and the song is mighty...
if you like ABBA as much as i do.check out a band called la oerja de van gogh.you tube thier song rosas.they are from spain, and sound, not identical to ABBA but i think you would like it.also listen to a song on you tube by renasaince called winter tree.i think you would enjoy this.
maybe they can improve on their dancing and their attire and it wil be better anyway...nice song! i love it when i am in trouble maybe i sing this sog
dneska say sos to GOD ! 2012 TO BE CALAMITY TO ALL WORLD !

"They say there tunes are as complexed as Mozart, it was put through a computer and it cnfirmed this in a study."
1. Who is "they"?
2. No computer program can make such a determination.
3. No computer program is needed for such a thing. Any music student (or above) can analyze music.
4. While ABBAs music is not simple, there are far more complex chord structures/arrangements in most of Mozart's music than in any ABBA song.
5. Complexity has nothing to do with the enjoyment of music.

hey jude is about julian lennon (jude) dealing with John's divorce and marriage to yoko.
McCartney hated the line about carrying on his shoulders, John told Paul that it was the best line in the song.
That's how the partnership worked and why it was special. Lennon & Mcartney was greater than the sum of its parts.

I would like to add one more comment too. Actually, if you listen to Abba carefully, their songs have quite a bit of complex arrangements to them. I come from a musical family with actual degrees in music, and they also have told me that Abba is more complex than they are given credit for.

Thanks for pointing that out - many people like to trash ABBA by saying that they are just a flowery, lovey dovey band.

The only group TODAY to have knocked the Beatle's out of the title of the best-selling band in the world, thus for a short period of time (1977-1981).

What a fantastic song. What a terrible film. What were they thinking?
rjmachin 4 years ago
it was the seventies.certain things were still primitive.you must understand that rock music groups didnt have access to top notch equipment when it came to video espeically.

I know - I remember them well. But even so - the frocks - the dancing - more or less contemporary with this, they were making much better promos (Knowing Me, Knowing You, for example)... not that it matters. It's kitsch rather than offensive and the song is mighty...

This is one awesome song. Agnatha at her best. I like Dancing Queen but this is much better in showing emotion.

Their first hit, in the US anyway, was "Waterloo" in 1974.
