The 16.5 inch model would be the most practical length when choosing for an M416 or the M4/M16 family of rifles. The 20" is far more superior than the 16.5, but its shit when in urban situations cause you and your weapon could be exposed while taking cover and its really difficult to transition in close quarters. The 16.5" has pretty good ballistics among the other shorter ones and its pretty accurate too, not saying the others arent accurate but the 16.5" is the best in my opinion.
Look at the amount of M-16/M4 styled assault rifles that have been developed in the past few years and its pretty easy to see that some big contracts are going to be on offer in the coming few years. Sig, Beretta, H&K, Remington etc all produced new rifles and thats just mentioning a few. Every USMarine squad now will have a DMR man/rifle and thats another contract up for grabs, the M-14 EBR is currently doing that job along with a couple of other more modern semi-auto rifles.

Kalashnikov came up with the piston reloading system for the AK47, however venting the gases forward through, the upper receiver was a brilliant addition, and the fact that this gun can be fired after being in mud, sand, and water, is excellent. the bolt remains clean and cool, another nice bonus, definitely putting it on the Christmas list. all in all a great system, would love to see it with different calibers or possibly on PDW's/SMG's. maybe even Sniper Rifles.

@selimdabom No they're not, and I am a hundred percent sure about that. Check out FN Herstal's website. The SCAR-H is one of the best assault rifles in the world. MINIMI, P90, F2000 etc are all Belgian made. They also make insane remotely operated LWS's.

@Unterstutzungsfeuer I am not officially in the forces, but I am involved with the Home Guard Youth. We get trained with the AG3 and my CO's are actually Lieutenants from the Army and have both been snipers within Telemark Bataljon in both Kosovo and Afghanistan. And yes, every single soldier I've met have loved the 416. I haven't tried it yet myself, but my CO have said that we might get to try them this winter :D Can't wait, and I dont give a shit about the ammo problems.

It just works, though we are having problems with the ammo we made for it. Gasses in the rifle combined with the gasses from the ammunation makes people sick apparantly.

However, I was talking about all the short-stroke gas piston AR-15's that have been around since Stoner created the AR-18. Now every manufacturer has a piston AR-15. I just haven't seen any data or results from objective, third-party testing that shows that the HK-416 is better than the rest. I've just seen a lot of marketing hype.

if you use g36 against m4 you dont have that much of advantage, however if you use tar-21 you will shoot faster around corners, enemy wont see you coming around corners and more + relyable
@MrEran1996 I think people don't like bullpup's because of the different shooting experience. The muscle memory of magazine changing is totally different than a traditional rifle. Which makes people feel uncomfortable. But for short distance combat, or urban combat field, bullpup is very good and effective because it's light and short. The Hk416 is better than M4 in term of reliability.

@ajlepisto what dose the corvette have to do with a gun. german and american cars are completely different. most of our cars suck and german cars are overpriced. Besides I wouldn't mind using this when I join the marines but they will make you use a M16 which is not a bad rifle as most of you make it out to be.

Personally I like the SCAR better.

@TwinklesPussMaster61 Of course. The 416 competes with the M4 because it's the new version, so to speak. There are plenty of other companies that have similar modifications to the M4 design. Few of them can be water fired like this, but there are those that can be.
And I've never shot a SCAR so I have no idea about that. I know people are pretty divided on it so I won't comment on something I have no experience with.

@ajlepisto I have shot a SCAR. It's a heavy rifle but all the recoil is pushed back. It barely lifts. In my opinion it's a great gun.

@Devorvan: It's just a Question of the Time, the US Army tested many new Weapons, the M416, the ACR, the SCAR, but they will stay with the M4, i don't know why. You probably mean the M4, not the M5.

H&K manufactures some of the most overrated weapon systems, praised by legions of internet fanboys who have zero experience whatsoever with any gun.
There are a lot of guns out there comparable, if not better, than H&K. Do yourself a favor and google: "HK Because You Suck and We Hate You."

@WenchesOfRedemption I served in the german military, and of course i`ve use H&K weapons, I also fired M16-A4, FN Famas, Steyr AUG and SA85 rifles, and i must say the G36 is the best. not overratde at all, the best assaultrifle currently in use by a regular Army. don`t start talkin about rifles that are in developement or not issued to any military force.

Both the XM8 and the HK G36 were both rejected by the US Govt.
Currently FN...NOT HK makes the main battle Rifle for US Forces
Currently FN...NOT HK makes both the LMG and GPMG for US Forces
Currently Colt..NOT HK makes the Carbine
HK copies CETME for the G3
HK copies Stoner for the HK416
HK copied FN for its MG43

@WenchesOfRedemption I don`t care about civilian gun owners. the u.s. government does a lot of mistakes i terms of buying proper military equpment, like the keep using the interceptor bodyarmor insted of the dragonskin.
As i said, i am a german, and not very familiar with what is going on across the ocean, but from what i hear from American soldiers there are a lot of stupid decisions made by the government.
