She is a very skilled rider who has a horse that takes her for a leader and they have learned cues together. I am sure they had a well thought through relationship before she got on to ride.
She is using the mane as a support system. She isn't. Using it for control. She uses her legs to steer. And as for the horses ears being back, it is listening to it's rider
It might not hurt the horses if you pull on thier mane, but my horse doesn't like it :P he's really sensitive. He only likes it if I take a comb and brush through his mane, but for bareback riding? Nope no way :) lol I love how horses have such personality :D
She's actually using her legs a lot if you watch. And yes - it does NOT hurt the horse if you pull on their mane. It's not like our hair. The nerves at the roots of the hair isn't the same.
i obviously never rode like this. [i wish. lol.], but riding reiners bridleless is the best thing ever. and this comes from someone who events. which is an incredible thrill. <3
@ TiaSweden: I totally agree! It doesn't look as free and naturalof a riding, if you spot the long and (most probably) sharp spurs she's wearing. Moreover, such whirling pirouettes or frantic halt, are a disgrace to the nature of these beautiful animals.
"Riding should enhance nature, not disgrace it". It's a pitty to see the opposite, just so often...
@drgnfr doesn't look like natural and free riding? This is about as natural as it gets. I have been taught to ride bridleless and bareback, because it helps you to connect with the horse. I am an english rider, and love animals. But I don't see this as a disgrace to nature. I see it as a beautiful interpretation of a womens trust and love with this lovely animal. I'm sorry you don't see and appreciate this.
@RammsteinRoesli Dear Rammstein, riding without any tack is the quintessence of horseriding, no doubt. Besides, I have worked for some years in therapeutic riding programs, so I know what 'bearback connection' is, and what its merits are.
But I will always be questioning if the underlying 'learning methods' are as 'free and tender' as it appears in the shows. But this is another thing, which miserably pertains many of the animal training methods.
Anyway, if you believe that a horse whirling like a Mevlevi or going from full speed gallop to fast back-stepping ever apply in nature, then I am sorry for our appreciation about equestrian art, and that's that for me, and I wouldn't care for any more arguments.

You know, there are a lot of other trainers that do natural horsemanship like this, too. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but it isn't necessarily Parelli. She might use Parelli, I don't know. I do know that she trains her own horses, though! She is amazing!
Oh sorry, im only 10 years old you know. Thats just waht i thought so i wrote it becaseu i think i read a comment that said waht is it so i put down my ideas. So now being 10 i can't even comment on videos without being knocked for saying waht i thought it was called!!
Whoa there! I wasn't trying to "knock you down" for saying what you thought it was. There are a lot of different natural horsemanship trainers, that's all. Don't be offended because I didn't mean it that way.
people this isn't just some random woman, this is STACY WESTFALL, one of my biggest heroes. this ride was in honor of her father who had just died. she is SOOOOO amazing...
It is very good riding and not extreamly hard to do. It is all about knowing your horse, teaching it cues, leg pressure and balence. It was a nice tribute to her father. I'm sure he is proud.
a horse is amazingly insensitive to tugging on its mane, lschoco. in fact, for show horses with manes too bushy, it's recommended to simply pull out the hairs rather than cutting them, to thin the mane. and a handful of mane is the best handhold when there's no pommel to hoist yourself up on. :)
Yeah haha it does not hurt the horse to have his mane tugged on. it's actualy better to pull the horse's mane to thin it and shorten it rather than cutting it. it would only hurt if you pulled it out in huge chunks.
Are you guys even aware of who she is. Her father was famous for this type of riding and he died less then a month before this ride. This is her tribute ride to her father. Don't put her down...she is an amazing rider and I'm sure everyone here who put her down can do that right?

she's a good rider and all but i think she's a better trainer and that horse is amazing, she's not the best rider i've ever seen. bareback isn't that hard, if you're horse knows how, then you can do it too it's teaching them to thats the problem ^^

Sry about the double comment. I didn't mean to apply it. ANYWAY... i think that that first trick she does is very dangerous towards the horse... The way she spins her horse that fast...the horse could easily trip and harm herself or even break or sprain an ankle for going that fast. Im sorry but sayin that she is the only one who can do this is the biggest bs i've ever heard. Im not trying to be rude so please dont take it that way..but anyone can do this if they are a smart horseman...

She does look frightened of her horse at the end and she also is very full of herself at the end.
Sorry, i meant to say it wasn't easy in my other comment. Thank you for believing me. It is diffictult and im only 13 and i have problems with my horse at times. It is really hard and takes practice. I've been through a lot of respect, trust, and listening with my horse t constider doing this. Its facinating when you do do it tho. Yeah that speed could injur her horse..and yup like i said she looks frightand when she stands on the horse (Also fairly dangerous to the spine) and very full ofherslf
I know a very awesome dressage horse who fractured his spine. They almost had to put him down. I was sad to see him lying there. His eyes were the hardest things to look at. He might be recovering soon, if he can stand up. I don't like to see that happen to amazing horses, and to see it happen to the one in this vid would be horrible. The girl would take all of the responsiblity. I would pity the horse, not her for not having a horse.

She spent years of her life developing a bond with her horse in order to do this. & So what she has spurs and touches his neck! you dolt, it's better than any other horse with a 50 pound saddle or gag bit! You don't have a horse . . . shut your trap little girl. She is not terrified, it's a little concept we informed people like to call ballance. She should be proud of herself. She spent years of her life developing a bond with her horse in order to do this. & So what she has spurs and touches his neck! you dolt, it's better than any other horse with a 50 pound saddle or gag bit! Just because you have crap horses and no riding skill doesn't mean you can bash someone with talent!
