  • mmm funky. just the way i like it. excellent playing.

  • I play guitar....I had fun jamming out some funk with you!

  • You got sick feel bro...keep posting please..To many bassists are just bottoming out guitar riffs and I love bassist that are distinguished and stand out in a band. More tip an tricks pls...Peace from Canada

  • u shud write a riff bssed on some crazy chord like a g sharp minor major 7 double flat 5 :D its nasty! haha

  • dude i love your style so much man...not showing off...just grooving away man..and that to me makes a bassplayer a bassplayer :)

  • Updated video info with help on chord

  • Thank you for lessons

  • nice video!

  • great groove! can't wait to hear it on the marcus miller signature jazz bass:D

  • Esus4-5#9/C bass is better!

  • E 7# 9 = E maj9

    E 7# = E maj7

  • wrong !

  • say what?

    E7#9 = E7#9... E, G#, B, D, F## (G)

  • OK - this is structure of E9#... As I know number 7 is always including in chord 9 (major or major). Fivetones chords - correct? Well - problem is conversation. In USA and UK is B and Bb. In our fuckin' country is B named H and Bb is named B. Hehehe! We must just play and don't think about terminology.

  • Ups : don't get me wrong (again) - major and minor 6.9 doesn't have 7th. Just 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 9th tone of scale. Arabian musicians have 24 tones. It's more simple, hahaha!

  • OK, now I know, where is the catch - in Slovenia we always write : Dm+5 (not : Dm#5). Or Dm+7 (not : Dm#7). This difference fuck me, I apolodise!

  • No it isn't!

    E7#9 = E7+9

    Go to the music school!

  • that's not right, add 9 is not sharp nine, add nine is not add sharp nine fool!

  • You guys are ridiculous. Arguing over notation . . . its the sound that matters. You know, the stuff that you ears receive and your brain hears?

  • And this sounds good to me. :)

  • WHY we must know? Look : guitarist plays chord. In each chord are united tones. Bassist must knows all tones in every chord - because bass plays tones separately. One by one.

Notes? I don't like notes. I don't like tabs. I made my own TABS sistem.

  • If i read notes i always write on them if its G or A or C or A#. And then i watch on that letter it's easier to read and learn. Notes i am using only for rhythm

  • Brother Jah!! Lol ... what are you doing in a bass thread? hehehehe I agree though, it get's ridiculous ... people are just argumentative, it matters not what the topic is.

  • Maybe cunt means "have a nice day" in Slovenia?? :P

  • you make it look so easy... you're pretty awesome actually :)

  • If it sounds good, and I believe it does in this video, then its cool... But I am a sucker for dumb things like looks and brand names, sometimes... :(

  • That SX sounds really good...I might pick one up. Which model are you playing?

  • Aren't those SX Basses inexpensive knock-offs of Fender Basses? I doub't anyone that plays at this level is using a 110.00 bass. However I guess when you play this good it probably doesn't matter.

  • What's wrong with an SX?

  • i would much rather lose or damage a $110 bass over basses that cost thousands of dollars like some of the basses marlowe has. Im sure marlowe only uses it when he travels just to have something to play.

  • Exactly, its lighter in weight (shortscale) and if it gets stolen ill just buy another. But its not a good bass, doesnt keep the tuning and the front pick up wiring bailed out withing the first 2 weeks - easy to fix i guess but didnt bring a soldering iron. But for the price....

  • yeah for the price you can't go wrong :) Awesome basslines as always marlowe. You deserve to get more recognition that just the youtube community. I wanna see your bands come play in the U.S!

  • well yea, that's obviously what they are. but for that money, it sounds really good. I already have a decent "expensive" bass, but I want something cheap that I can take around and not worry so much about. this sounds really good for the money, and I hear great things about them.

  • I can tell it's you without looking, you have a distinctive playing style. (It's the hammer-on lift-off)

He is from Copenhagen if I remember right?

  • ih he in Brazil??

  • Gotta work the funk too:) (and its not a hotelroom)

  • it would be a great place for this funk line though :) amazing by the way.

  • Nice Job dude. I'm making a respond video for you to hear, i'm already learned your lesson :)

    Greetings,

    MaRC

  • Got it...... well... maybe.

  • nice job,by the way : happy new year Thomas

    greetzz

  • Wow. Really.

  • nice

  • is there anything you can't do? 5 stars.

  • He claims he can't do real jazz type walking bass lines. He says he "fakes" it.

  • If i recall it's a classic Jaco harmonic, and also Mark King uses it alot or fragments of it. But it still sounds good. nice job there marlowe =)

  • yeah. reminds me a lot of portrait of tracy

  • @Generalbas1972 no one "owns" any harmonic .

  • RageicaNiels ... you picked the wrong spot to make that comment! Haha Can you explain what you mean by that comment?? ... do you think that bass is a "lesser" instrument in some way compared to other instruments? What would music be like without smart, skilled bassists like Marlowe? Pretty dull if you ask me.

  • i was just beeing sarcastic.. nothing mean to all the bassist..

im a bassist too. but the chord just sounds sick. that dude got some seriouse bass skills and hes not just popping the strings randomly but he knows exacly what he plays. like the E7#9 chord.

  • oh ... Ok ... it just sounded funny the way you said it ... sorry for questioning you like that. Peace.

  • As Jaco says on his "Modern Electric Bass" video it's the difference between wiggling your fingers and real playing.

  • true true.. i´ve only been playing for 4 years now so i still have a lot to learn when it comes to music theory. my fingers are not quite as "real" as MarloweDK´s fingers ;)

  • Here's a hint. Practice scales in every key in every position up and down the neck in every possible way. Start out with just major scales because all the other scales are built off the major scale. Eventually you'll be able to play what ever comes to your head. I will say it will take hundreds of hours of practice.

  • thanks for the tip :D

i can play 16 different scales but im not that skilled when it comes to scales and chord playing like Thomas in this video.

but ill practice ´em and learn to put them in songs and bass licks

  • harmonic 'chord' :O sounds great! nice work

  • Sweeet bassline!

  • Tak for videoen (;

    Thanks for the video (;

  • This is an awesome bass line! :-)

  • Really nice, funky, bassline!

  • real nice video like always. wow your just good at everything lol. 5 stars
