  • These movies celebrated the glory of Romantic love. Now the Gay marriage boys are trying to make a mockery of this.

  • always melts my heart this scene <3 xx

  • "Please ma'am, marry me. I don't know what I'm gonna do if you don't." It's so sweet!

  • Wonderful story with beautiful romantic songs. Nothing of today compares with the lalent of the 1950's.

  • Chills...and tears, every time! :)

  • I'm so excited to do this musical at our school this year. I hope I get to be Laurey so that I get proposed to in this spectacular fashion.

  • @bbno21 We did Oklahoma my Sr. year in high school, I didnt get the lead, but Im an alto. What ever part you got I hope you have fun

  • @Lauragal220 I did end up getting the part of Laurey. It was very unexpected since I'm an alto too. My best friend got the part of Ado Annie so we are going to have tons of fun. :)

  • @bbno21 CONGRATULATIONS! you and your friend are going to have soo much fun. My neice was in a HS production of Oklahoma and and twins played Laurey and Ado Annie,(not identical) congrats again and as they say "break a leg"

  • Aww! I love how he proposed and Man oh man! I'd marry Gordon Macrea in a heartbeat but too bad he's gone and I am only 16! but Yeah These types of movies should make a comeback but with the Hollywoods Stars we have today I think that would probably be pyhsically impossible! Gahh! If I only had a time Machine, Then I'd take everyone that wanted to go back to yesteryear! :)

  • "get away from me" immediately changes to "marry me".....how did this metamorphosis occur? at what point did that significant change occur? what a quick arc in character for Curly!

  • Makes me tear up everytime:) I want to get married to Gordon Macrae...

  • is there a video of the whole song?,...

  • "...and one of 'em threw u"

    "Yeah, did not throw me"

    lol that was hilarious!!!!

  • how could you even say no to gordon macrae?

  • "jumpin' toadstools!"

  • i love this musical it may be chezzy but it's sweet and it shows how even if the boy and girl pretend that they hate each other they find there way back to each other!!

  • I like Hugh Jackman's proposal better... but both make me giggle, so I'm pretty even.

  • How did we move from "spank you" to "how 'bout marrying me?"

  • 4:12 cheezy but sweet

  • Aw! This is so sweet. Thanks for posting. :-)

  • I love this musical! It was on T.V. yesterday.

  • She was so beautiful. She still looks great but shes a true beauty in this

  • @SaxymanMLC Oooh good luck! I hope it went well!!! :)

  • I'm going to propose to my girlfriend this afternoon while we watch this movie! I've memorized the lines to this scene. It's going to be great. She LOVES Oklahoma.

  • @SaxymanMLC That's so sweet!!

  • @SaxymanMLC aww how sweet!

  • best marriage proposal ever!!!! with "spank" thrown in? Perfect!!! what a cute couple.

    Love the dress ;)

  • This is classic! I love this musical, and i love the way he kisses her!

  • "well, you found yours. im still lookin' for mine." i LOVE that line. i start cracking up every time i hear it.

  • "Curly, you're sittin' on the stove!!!"

  • i love this movie so much and this, without a doubt, is the best scence! <3 xoxo

  • This was the first musical of the team of Rodgers and Hammerstein- first of a great series- a golden age to be sure- the next was Carousel!

  • I love this scene... But how does "spanking" go to "marriage"?! Haha

  • i'm actually in love with gordon mcrae...

  • I've always loved this scene.

  • I wish I had a modern day Gordon MacRae!!

  • @hlhiggs87

    He's named Hugh Jackman!!

  • Hugh Jackman is great too, but his voice in no way compares to Gordon MacRae. Plus the orchestrations were amazing in the 1955 movie.

  • Oh. My. Gosh. THIS is our school musical? I LOVE IT!!!

  • My all time favorite! Wish the whole movie could be posted here.

  • Nothing sends me into giggle fits faster.

  • My 'girly' heart will always dream of this kind of romance from a handsome cowboy, no matter how old I get.

  • dont come any better

  • this is so sweet =)

  • would you be able to post "Poor Judd is Dead"?

Or even better, the whole movie? I haven't been able to find it ANYWHERE, and I'd very much like to see it.

  • @Fiondra Daid...

  • Shirley Jones and Gordan McRae had such strong chemistry.

  • um? have you ever seen jackman perform/ sing? hes A. MAZ. ING.

  • so cheesy&sweet&heartfelt.

    perfect couple.

    gorgeous dress:)

  • this is absolutely one of my fav musicals along with carousel!

  • Great marriage proposal scene. Innocent, charming, lovely, heartwarming. Everything's perfect: the music, the singing, the dress, the guy and girl. A classic movie that will live on forever.

  • Oh gosh, I just LOVE this!

  • This is just sooooooooooooo adorable!

  • OMG the girls acting is so cheesy.

  • Oh, for heaven's sake, JuliaP!! This is Oklahoma!, a musical, not Shakespeare!

You have to have a heart, you have to suspend disbelief, you just have to go with the sentiment.

Shirley Jones + Gordon MacRae - one of the most wondeful, heart warming duos of the classic musicals! Just enjoy!

  • Well ya gotta remember it wasn't considered cheesy back then... this was filmed way back in 1955...almost 55 years ago... :)

  • I love her dress

  • Thanks for uploading this video. Gordon Macrae was my favorite actor & singer when I was very young. This scene was one the best scene in Oklahoma. Funny, romantic & great singing by Gordon Macrae & Shirley Jones. Great screen couple.

  • best 5 minutes and 4 seconds of any movie, of all time, hands down

  • Best marriage proposal with the word 'spank' in for sure - I love this film!

  • haha, i agree. :)

  • I had such a huge crush on Curly when I was little...XD

  • I love Oklahoma! My school is doing the last of 4 performances today. and I must say they're doing a fine job :) I'm in the pit orchestra on viola. I love this movie.

  • Ha! She totally throws herself at him.

  • this scene is sooo cute, but it dsnt make ne sense! if u try to follow it, all the parts are rly randome! i luv this movie tho

  • It's not random. lol she turned him on and that scared the heck out of him.

  • I prefer Hugh Jackman's version =)

  • Hee hee!! when I did this as Laurey, this scene was so cute!! He twirled me around when I said I'd marry him. :)

  • this version seems slightly different to ones ive seen before- perhaps a different camera angle or a second shoot? very strange! but fabulous none the less!!!!

  • It's from the Todd-AO version of the film. Perhaps you've seen the CinemaScope version?

  • OMG, the hug at 4:12 is SO cheesy, I was laughing so hard! This is such a cute scene ...

  • hugh jackman is better

  • It is funny how he smiles in that she can't stop crying in his arms ;)

  • So CUTE!!!!!!!!

  • The sweetest and most romantic, and best proposal ever. I love it! And Gordon and Shirley have amazing voices!

  • curly is sooo cute in this version

  • you should see Hugh Jackman playing Curly

    :)

  • 3:03 to 3:06 seemed very sped up. But it probably wasn't... Other then that, very cute!

  • this play came to my shool and then the 6th graders acted as the part

  • And that one throwed you!

    yeah...did not!

i guess you jumped off then?!

    :) love it love it.

    perfect pair and amazing acting

  • Ahh I hate how she's completely throwing herself at him after he kisses her once. But the rest I love. They are so perfect for each other.

  • Just remember that kisses were much more serious things back then.

  • "Why don't you turn around and look you crazy woman." lol I love this movie and I love Gordon! lol

  • I love how he's carrying around a rope and looking for Annie...HAHAHHA

  • I love this scene! It was so great to see Curly and Laurie FINALLY get it together.

  • best proposal ever!!!!!!

    Perfect pair!!!

  • I agree with you! This proposal is so wonderful!

  • @LeslieHowardFan, your absolutley right. This proposal gave me chills from excitement! I never tire from watching this movie.

  • i love this scene. but the only thing i hate about it is when she says "I'll marry ya! if ya want me to!" well, of course he WANTS you to blondie! If not, why would he ask you?!? But i do really love the song and their voices do go well together.

  • RE: "I'll marry ya! if ya want me to!"

supossin Laurey got a little excited and wanted a confirmation of Curly's proposal

supossin some fellows viewing this video would have like to seen Laurey getting spanked - just for fun of course

  • what a great pair, good job

  • LOVE IT!!!!!

  • Enjoyed it thanks for posting it.
