Strange how they told the drivers not to run 3 wide... I remember that year they had changed the equipment rules to make it easier for the cars to do exactly that so this was inevitable.
It always looked to me like the 3 wide scenario was what made Earnhardt's crash fatal. He touched up against the car below him, then as that led to him turning toward the wall the car above hooked him to a sharp angle of impact. If they had been 2 wide it wouldn't have been a big event.
Cool that while he's taking him for a ride, Magic Carpet Ride is playing. going to be in NASCAR 2003, the first game where Dale's car isn't featured as a weekly car.
i find it ironic that he dips below the line in the turn and jokes about losing control of the car at about the exact same place his fatal accident occurred. rest in peace man sucks so bad that happened to this man
man i miss this guy. dale knew how to have fun and i just wished that i would had got to meet him and learn to be a real racecar driver unlike kyle bush
Chris Myers Said "people & Drivers Are Saying this Will Be The Greatest DAYTONA 500 EVER". Well The Beginning & Middle Was Great. But It Ended Up Being The Worst DAYTONA 500 EVER. RIP DALE!!!!!!
if he joined al quaeda, wore a turban, and drove backwards killing everyone including that dipshit kyle busch and boyfriend jimmy johnson, people would just say "thats Dale!"
WOW, Look how happy Dale was. I have never seen him that happy. I was seated in the Oldfield Tower in Turn 4 when his crash happened :( RIP Dale Earnhardt. Best Nascar driver ever!
I remember when this was going on!My brother and I had been camping in the infield since Wednesday afternoon on turn four ,as a matter of fact across from where Dales crash was,and we noticed a street car haul'n ass around the track up next to the wall and questioned one another about WHO was driving the car and why they were so close to the wall.Little did we know that in the car was BOTH of our longstanding heros.........WOW.........M.Lester......
@Sturmbannfuhrer21 Same here. Its cool to see him being his fun humorous self, but it's weird knowing this was less than 24 hours before it happened.
There were many ironic things that makes this even weirder. The expected "best Daytona 500 ever," FOX'x first NASCAR broadcast (I believe), him saying he's lucky when Terry's around, etc.
I can't believe how ironic it is that they were saying that it could be the best 500 ever, and how they put the spotlight on dale, and how dale was having a great time. Can't even imagine what it must have been like to be one of the people that spent that night with dale, and at that time the next day, would be hearing about the tragedy. Dale was the best, will always be the best, and nobody will come close. NOBODY. Don't reply with your opinion, because this is a fact. Keep it to yourself.
That was his last night alive. You could really see how pressure free he was, and how much he was really enjoying life. I always hated him and rooted against him... but man what a tragedy.
I miss Dale he was not just the best racer I ever saw but he was one funny guy,i love all his interviews,i would have loved to have gotten the chance to meet him
This is funny but sad at the sametime. NASCAR has gone to hell in a row boat. Dale sr and Bill France sr are flipping in there graves. GOD BLESS THEM BOTH
Burnfart didnt deserve any of his championships, regularly spinning people out on purpose just to win.
he deliberately connected his seatbelts wrong, cuz thats the way he did it, bill simpson told him not to. and he wore that open faced helmet. he was a dumb redneck and he got what he deserved.
Man, can you believe the video. It makes my heart heavy. He was having fun and excited for Terry to be there. I can't believe the outcome. RIP Dale, we miss you!
Terry & Dale Sr.'s "victory celebration" on the hood of the pace car also looks eerily similar to Dale Jr & Michael Waltrip's celebration in the grass after the Pepsi 400 that year.
And remember it was the first official Fox reports of Nascar/Daytona racing, taking place of CBS. Not always my favorite driver but does it really matter? Always among the greatest.
its kind of ironic that at 2:32 in the video when dale pretended to lose the car when he went onto the apron its the exact spot he lost it in the 500 the next day.
Was this the night before the 2001 daytona 500, i think it was that is chilling knowing he died the next day. Rest in the peace the greatest race car driver ever.
