"We re-recorded Stable Song. I wanted to put it in a different frame from where it was with The Photo Album, because when we recorded it as "Stability" for The Photo Album, with the big, scary, bleak-ass outro, that was the sound of a band falling apart. That was the sound of us just hating on one another and not trusting and not whatever. And I've always loved that song..I wanted to put it in the other frame and see what it would sound like. And it seemed really appropriate for (Plans). - Walla
they are both great guys but ben gives off the image as being a snob i guess but he's just shy and puts his all into the performance. i think i was the lone person who got a photo and met him like three times a few months back. it's callled stable song as it's shortened as they probably wanted to re record it with jason.
ben is probably one of those really awkward quiet people who isn't extremely sociable or comfortable with himself in front of people, but that's where he gets his inspiration from. leading to amazing music :)
this vid is great cos it shows how unknown the band used to be/ playing all crammed together in a small room just giving it their all. and now look how far they've come.
just beautiful. Everybody committed to the song - thats how great music is made. In particular I really appreciate McGerr's discipline - so skilled a drummer keeping it so simple - thats a sign of a true professional
The thing a love most about dcfc is they are os real. no effects, or weird sound, just them playing from their hearts <3 I love this band. I can only hope that one day I will be able to write songs as well as Ben Gibburd
I have the Plans CD on my iPod and I love Stable Song, but when I heard it was just a shortened version of this I had to listen to it. Both songs are amazing but this one idk there's something about its hard to explain its amazing <3
I really like their "wall of sound" approach. With each of their records, there's a certain texture to it. I like the fact that they take the time to actually think about these things.

after getting known the music death cab makes, I'm listening differently to other music, it changed a lot. They're really good, I'm so excited for their concert on 11/24 in Germany.
Sorry for mistakes, I'm german, my english sucks :/
If you compare Transatlantism with Narrow Stairs, they are very different. It's not just that the lyrics and tunes change, it's deeper than that. The undertones are different.
well, Idk about that, Transastlanitism and Narrow stairs are a bit similar in style, but I know what you mean. I think though, that Plans is where they really changed their style, and back again in NArrow Stairs, but that's just my view.
I really like to listen to it on my commute from work as well. It's usually 4:00 in the a.m. and it really makes me feel great. Of course, it has to be Stability and not just Stable Song.
honestly, i bet if death cab really wanted to they could practice in a nice big expensive space. But they are not spoiled bastards, they are down to earth guys, and they would rather live simple lives and do what they love which is play music. They dont need a nice practice space to make them good.
this was recorded before Plans. They hadn't even begun recording for Plans yet. This film was them on tour supporting Transatlanticism. So, they probably hadn't even thought of shortening this song into Stable Song yet.
Unless I'm very much mistaken, that shitty-ass silver Buick at the beginning with the broken door is Ben's car, or should I say his "gray sub-compact." He probably has enough money by now to have bought a different one.
Molly718, I think you're very much mistaken. "We Looked Like Giants" is a song, not a chapter out of a history book. True, Gibbard writes about people in his life, but I think it's stretching the truth to think that he would own a car that he possibly never even had, but much less one that (if the song is 100% fact) he probably owned 15 years ago. Plus the "silver Buick" is not a gray-sub compact...man, why the hell are we talking about this?
People need to realize that the music industry is tough. Because you're well known/liked doesn't necessarily mean you're rich. The only money (particularly indie artists) get is pretty much from touring & appearances. Record sales for indie artists isn't really relevant considering how easily music can be downloaded off the net.
your totally right man. the music industry is really tough. people need to appreciate dcfc they are amazing and they deserve way more respect than half of those shitty 1 hit wonder bands today
death cab gets royalties for all of their hits. Im sure they live comfortably. And yeah they get most of their money from touring, which is probably a lot seeing as they sell out arenas.
amazing
