Great song. But can barely hear the singer. The mixer is borking it. And daym... has it really come to this. Best one hit wonder ever.. and the audience is dead. Looks like a home movie lol. Ill keep the original.
the audience needs a bucket of water thrown on them. who are they? the friggin' ladies auxiiary? the woman at :38 is picking things from her face and looking at them....lol. crude bitch, pay attention.l
Outstanding. The vocals are still tight. I remember when My girlfriend would not go to watch my band because Looking Glass was performing nearby... (way back when).
I don't understand how they can write/create a song this excellent, and then not have any more'big hits'. This song is as good and well written as any pop song I have ever heard, so that's why I don't really understand.
Too bad this sounds like it was recorded in a skating rink...The the acoustics for recording could not be much worse.. Could anyone have thought to turn down mic on the snare? A good sound man could have improved the overall sound of this performance a great deal in spite of the bad acoustics providing there was a good sound man and there obviously wasn't .
@lclaughton I was thinking about how the drums sounded in the mix, but could you tell if any ot the drums were miked? Usually for small rooms and boards they're not.
Love This Story/Song-Elliot Lurie- The Writer of this Song Did a Fine Job.! And I have met a Number of Women Named after this Song . What an impact-and these guys are still able to pick and choose their gigs! Thom
I can't imagine life without YouTube! Whatever you want to watch, it's here and it's free. Night after night I get to go to free concerts of any artists I want. Thanks to everyone who post these vids for us, thanks soo much!!

This song knocked Turn the Page out of #1 and was there for like 40 weeks. Now they are playing to 200 pepole in Ann Arbor? Wow. I guess that is how it rolls. Great song and the band is still good. Here is to these guys making it in some bigger venues and making some real money. Keep at it boys.
@ENEMENCIO123VISION not sreaming,,, but they don't look like they are enjoying this at all.. you ususally get a least one person bopping to the music a little
They sound quite good after all these years. When I get my retirement home (a sailing yacht) I am quite tempted to name her "Brandy" as she would be a fine girl for the sea.
cant believe the students just sit there, not getting in it at all. do they know what they're watching? the original singer singing a classic pop song that sold millions. the only
Many thanks for posting this ! yeah - Elliott Lurie is fanastic. The second LP by Looking Glass has far more of his sound than that first eponymous LP. It's entitled Subway Serenade and includes their hit "Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne" -excellent 70's pop LP.
Love love love this guys voice, unique and soulful. And one of the best written songs ever. A STORYTELLER. Imagine that kids, a song that tells a story.
@HammernHeads I'm not convinced the lyrics tell a story so much as paint an impression of a sad person who might not even be fully aware of the tragedy of her situation. It's definitely a poem that could have been written a hundred years before, though. If it "tells a story", it does so in the same sense that a Renoir painting does.
@james0tucson Yeah, you have to be pretty stupid not to be convinced that this song does tell a story. And if you say that this could have been a poem from a hundred years ago, then i do believe that most poems tells a story. I'm not saying a narrative-lengthened story, but somewhat of a story. This song tells/sings a story of a bartender that is in love with a sailor- nah, i'm pretty sure you already know. BTW: Love this song/STORY ;) (I mean no offence, but to tell you the facts)
Great song. But can barely hear the singer. The mixer is borking it. And daym... has it really come to this. Best one hit wonder ever.. and the audience is dead. Looks like a home movie lol. Ill keep the original.

Elliot Lurie has a great voice and can really play that guitar! I wish I could've seen them live; I'd been a little more into it than this crowd.

Still sounds great!! A great song from the 70's that will never die!!
I'll never hear this song now and not think of Doug Heffernan (King of Queens) doing it on Karaoke night.
