Impressive, unfortunately my paintings are still looking like they're from pre school. Going to try out these techniques and maybe I'll use less paint haha
Great ! You paint and teach how to paint extremely well! What a gifted teacher! Thank you. Now I feel encouraged to try to follow your steps. As to linseed I would like to see how much of it you take on the brush. I watched these videos with the thrill of excitement .
you are an extremely talented artist and a great teacher. ive always wanted to be able to paint the sky and i think with a new box of oils and these videos i might learn how to, thank you.
I am kind of new to oil painting and I tried this already and i always add linseed oil and i notice that the colors always seem to blend in, should i stop using the oil ?
I really enjoyed your videos, I have been painting for a while now, but I never really looked into videos such as yours, I may get me some of those brushes now that I know what they are for! Thank you for sharing us your knowledge.
Very informative videos! I've been painting with acrylics since high school, and have an idea for a sci-fi/abstract painting with oil paint. I was just wondering, with the pre-stretched, pre-gessoed canvases, do you recommend any sort of preparation beyond just staring at it? Lol i know kind of a silly question but I don't want to dive into this and end up with a big oily mess. Thanks!!! Art = <3
@rottweiler124 you can paint on all kinds of material stretched canvas is what I like to paint on for oils I worked as a manager for a frame shop for several years so I have seen all sorts of materials framed.
@kinaiscool123 I do paint the sides sometimes, I have the canvas stabilized on the easel and it is a few step process to keep removing and putting it back. Filming and doing this makes it hard, I encourage anyone to do that it looks really nice when the painting is complete.
WOW! This picture is just absolutely magnifisantlyest beautiful! I know that magnifisantlyest isn't a real word but real words can't describe how beautiful this painting is.If only I were that good.
Thats amazing man! never seen such thing before. I have been painting with oil colors for quite some time now but my problem is control. its sometimes very difficult to control the colors. After watching this video i came upon the conclusion that its because you use a lot of brushes and clean brushes.
Also i need a tip, how to clean the brushes after painting??
honestly, I haven't painted professionally b4..I just love drawing, sketching, designing..but one day I bought that kinda paper cloth 4 painting to make a difference but I don't know how to start :( infact, I only have one ordinary brush..
I watched the four part series and it was great! Thank you :) I can't go to art school right now but I badly want to learn how to paint so finding you/watching your videos has been really really helpful. Keep it up! You're helping a lot of aspiring artists! :)
Following this, I was able to produce a painting worth keeping! I've dreamed, and craved to paint for as long as I can remember - only recently have I desired to paint with oils.
Getting some oil paints on christmas, a quick search of a guide lead me to you. You've introduced me to a lifetime of painting, thank you very much for your contribution of knowledge!
@jacksonpek93 both at the same time LOL , if you are having problems starting get a photo or any picture look at it get inspired don't paint it like what you are seeing change things around for instance if a tree is on the left side of the photo put yours in the lower right part of the painting.
I have a question about how you care for the brushes once they have the paint on them and need to be cleaned. How do you clean them? Would you soak them in the lindseed oil?
@creativecolour Thank you so much for telling me. :) This will definately help me out. I was having to buy new brushes quite frequently because I couldn't clean them properly. Thanks again for your advice and very inspirational video. :)
I paint occasionally and hit walls (of sort) often. How much is the image already thought through at the beginning of the painting process?... or is it mainly a background, middle, and foreground basis and then freestyle from then on?
very impressive. im 27 n never painted anything in my life but im gonna give it a go. i thought u had to draw to be able to produce something like that but its just using brush techniques to build it up step by step..now i know how constable painted the haywain.lol. can u mix acrylics with oils on the same canvas or is it the norm to stick to one type of paint?
Thanks! I watched all four episodes of this scene and will try to imitate it to make a duplicate. This method of breaking the whole into parts is exactly what I was looking for on youtube.
Hey, this is awesome! Thanks so much!!! :) I have one question though- when i paint on good quality heavy paper, I still get yellow stains on the reverse because of the linseed oil. Will it help if i use some kind of acrylic primer to prepare the paper before painting?
I only watched lesson 3 and 4. I noticed you didn't use a painting medium to work into your paint. I'm a beginner, and I was wondering... how often are you supposed to use the medium? and what are the contents? i heard 2 parts solvent/thinner and 1 part oil (linseed, poppy, safflower, etc)
the paint I use "Lukas Studio Oils" is very buttery mixes very well together. plus the technique wet on wet I only add mediums when I need to thin my paint to do fine detail or add highlights. if you get all of your paints to thin then you get a muddy mess. hope that helps?
thankyou for sharing much enjoyed it, i am an english guy wanting to start painting not done before but want paint oil, can you help us with advice on painting detail such as if you were to add a animal or figure in to this etc.

thanks i made it to nr 2 and then realized i had used too much black paint on the lower level, and if i tried painting anymore, any paint would pain(t)fully become mixed withe the black. like a black hole it sucked anything in.
