We were going to get the 46in sony google tv because it was simply the best led screen and the best for the price after it was lowered (and on sale for black friday). But we ended up going with a 55in dynex lcd tv instead.

I love their search engine and email service but anything else by google sucks IMO. I rooted for android when it came out but the software quickly drove me away and same with google tv which failed in my opinion. No amount of great hardware can fix bad software and i think that is where Apple is succeeding because not only is their hardware beautiful but their software is just as great. Sony hardware is great but google software isn't always. Maybe this time will be different.

I bought the Logitech GTV box when it came out and I really enjoy having it, it's not the snappiest piece of hardware but it gets the job done. Now that they updated it with the Android Market it has more staying power IMO. I don't know what Sony has done with theirs but I don't think it will die off any time soon.

With all the gaming consoles and roku boxes that can do the same thing, already on the market, what is going to make someone choose Google TV over something like an Xbox 360? i don't see the point. Google TV at the moment, seems to simply offer what so many products already have and nothing new.

So why should this be chosen over one of those? which is also a game console.

@SkywardDragonKing Different price points in their entry and personal preference. Some people enjoy using google services and some enjoy microsoft services. However for barebones streaming with no interest in games or android apps should get a Roku device.

@SuperJonMitchell agreed but many many consumers of tech don't really know the diff between a Google service and a Microsoft one and are mainly looking at price and what they get for it and also which is getting the post hype and the 360 would win in all three of those categories.

While people who are tech fans like the people watching this video would probably pick up an Xbox, people who have no really no knowledge of tech and just want to use basic service would pick up the cheapest option like the Roku, not necessarily the Xbox 360.
