and SLAM! ... dead! nothing wrong with the set up, in fact, that was totaly sick, but just grab the leg when they start to lift you, cuz otherwise you could literally die. no joke.
I love this set up and how Ryan sets up triangles off of the inverted guard. Although I'm not great at it yet, I do have good success on guys who are my size. Check out some of my triangles in competition if you want!
lolll666 said it best. He is good at the sport he competes in. and if ryan was to defend himself in the street for some reason im fairly confident he is smart enough to alter his game im pretty sure he knows some good conservative jiu jitsu.
I totally agree, but what you should understand is that his guard is for sport bjj. He is a top level grappler my man, I'm sure that on the street he could handle himself, any blue belt should be able to. As for mma, he is probably just not interested... but for those looking to build their grappling reputations, the inverted guard is an exciting philosphy.
who gives a shit about what's effective on the street? does this look like a street fight to you? has ryan hall ever claimed to be a street fighter? is anyone watching NAGA hoping to learn street fighting moves? no to all of the above.
oh my god you again? you said this shit on another one of his videos i watched.
look, just like in regular bjj, you wouldnt use every move in a street fight, does that mean those moves are pointless? no. i would never try a flying triangle in a real fight, does that mean its pointless all the time? no.
im sure he'd use the right moves in a real fight. hes not a dumbass.
i disagree, i think there are stupid questions, which sometimes require stupid answers. just because u dont like my answer doesnt mean its stupid, i think its accurate actually
people do bjj for sport just like people do muay thai and mma for sport. Because people fight with guns in real life.
None of the fighters I know have any illusions that they are some ultimate badass killing machine - it's only the stupid kids, the loners with no friends practicing martial arts that are all about "combat" and "street fighting" and all.
Why does his techniques have to transfer to self defense? BJJ is a sport and if your pulling off inverted triangles in absolute divisions and winning...I'm sure your simple and basic self defense BJJ will be fine against someone who doesn't know Jiu-Jitsu in the street.
Yea I agree... blue-belt level moves are probably enough to kill like 90% of the population (10% being purple, brown, and black belt level fighters, whom probably wouldn't even get into street fights in general) and is enough for self-defense
@sarsattacks haha dude, more like enough to kill 99.99 percent of the population. If 10% of the people in this world trained in grappling, this world would be a much better place.
I'm shaking my head in disbelief. I just can't believe that someone can be as talented as Ryan Hall is. This video was amazing. Thank you for posting this and please post more in the future.
If you fight without a shirt when it's allowed, you're asking for it :D
but on a serious note, amazing technique

I read Mr. Hall is "only" a BJJ brown belt. WTF? That is some extremely slick shit right there.

It's a reverse triangle from the inverted guard. Watch technique number 3 on the 3rd DVD in his new set on the triangle. This is that technique.

Look it up.
It's a wicked flying inverted triangle in Bellator.
And the way he did it, would work in a street fight.

I probably would have let go if I was Ryan cuz he could've gotten his neck broken if he was spiked. What if that bigger guy didn't obey the rules?

That would've been a better idea. I got lucky. I started to become deeply religious once the guy lifeted me over waist height. haha.
