I totally agree, but what you should understand is that his guard is for sport bjj. He is a top level grappler my man, I'm sure that on the street he could handle himself, any blue belt should be able to. As for mma, he is probably just not interested... but for those looking to build their grappling reputations, the inverted guard is an exciting philosphy.

Why does his techniques have to transfer to self defense? BJJ is a sport and if your pulling off inverted triangles in absolute divisions and winning...I'm sure your simple and basic self defense BJJ will be fine against someone who doesn't know Jiu-Jitsu in the street.

Yea I agree... blue-belt level moves are probably enough to kill like 90% of the population (10% being purple, brown, and black belt level fighters, whom probably wouldn't even get into street fights in general) and is enough for self-defense
