  • why do all bad things happen to mary, first she goes blind, then her miscarriage and now her new baby dies in a house fire why did the producers or whoever wrote this pick on her the most..why did they have to kill off an innocent baby just to get ratings

  • poor albert, i was happy it wasnt his fault

  • 6:34....this is how my dad was....is...after my sister passed away. He still blames God for her death.... =(

  • @labbie87 Sorry to hear that. Sorrow makes things hard on everyone. I hope you don't feel the way your dad does.

  • sapphire and amber do you mean the sapphire and amber from our little secret

  • have the picnic outside you dumb buts!!!!!!!!

  • i feel sad for the baby, but why did it have to be Alice?

  • When Mary sings that lullaby it gives me a shiver down my spine...

  • i dont know how i am watching it this far

  • Why did they have to die):

  • im sorry for mary too but to be honest i feel truly sorry for adam here. it must be difficult for him to 'see' how mary is reacting to all of this. it was his child too so he is also grieving

  • @jecka1982 Same here! Adam's had to deal with a lot too and he's always been there for Mary. Someone needs to be there for Adam too.

  • @jecka1982 that is SO true but mary did go through alot but it is true

  • Even thou I have my troubles with faith but I just love that bible verse. And God will wipe away the tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

    Revelation 21:4 NKJV

  • Jonathan, yes! you should praise God for taking your wife to a better place, a place where there is no grief, temptations, pain, troubles, or woe!

  • ok so Charles and Caroline are flirting like right there at this time? and that lullaby is so freaking creepy! it's like nothing but a dark, burnt down place, the baby's body just laying there, and Mary's humming to that tune just randomly plays like an echo

  • God, this chanting / humming of that lullaby is just creepy! o.O

  • told us*

  • ummm this reminds me of what happend 2 years ago! i was 9 years old! it was a week after Easter Sunday, and my dad told u that, my friend had died in a car accident! i cried my heart out...because my friend had a 9 month old baby in the car with her, and her parents! all of them perished in that accident! it was all caused by a woman, who changed her mind, and got on the grass, and went 2 the other side of the highway, and hit the end of my friends car! :*(

  • Did this happen in real life or was it made up for the show?

  • @TheStacyC nope mary actually never even got married..adam didnt exist

  • @misslol1940 albert did not exist too

  • how about 'poor Adam?'.... everyone is worried about Mary, but correct me if I'm wrong...Adam lost his child too - plus he has to worry about a wife who's breaking down. Ultimately I really felt sorry for big John....losing his life partner, Alice, who actually was a hero, but never really got much credit....she helped everyone get out, then got delayed with the kid in the bathroom, and then went for Mary's baby which cost her her life.....(there's my 2 cents...lol)

  • @fastfootedone I felt all that for poor Adam too. The actor does wonderful in saying all that without needing to say the words. When he can't say the words and all he gets out is trying and trying I hear, I lost my son too and I can't even break down cuz I have to be strong for my wife.

  • @fastfootedone Alice really was a hero. It was tragic that trying to do everything got her killed. Seeing this again I hated seeing her leave the baby when she went to get the boy out. I thought if only she picked him up when she was right over the crib. Then she could've left with the boy. But she must've thought she'd get him out easier with her hands free.

  • Charle's must be cursed; his name will never pass on. They lose alltogether four boys

  • ugh. too sad. :( but i did learn that mary never married in real life and she never had kids. but it would be a tragic story. :(

  • Sad that both Adam and Mary never got to "see" their baby. I don't think Mary ever got her sight back but Adam did shortly after. What a shame!! Such a hard life they had to live back then.

  • So this happened before Adam gained his sight back?

  • Okay is it just me or is Adam being selfish....I dont for a minute think he is not grieving but to leave his wife at this most horrible time in their lives to go off alone....I dont agree. You stick it out with your wife and deal with what has happened together. You dont just leave her to her parents and be gone.....

  • @MsPrincess49 He was planning to stick it out. He just needed a few days to be able to grieve and focus on himself. That's not selfishness.

  • @12burgundy Sorry but my opinion on the matter is different than yours. I believe in having your own space in situations like this but you also have to remember that you have another person going through the same thing who in my opinion has taken the situation in a more "severe" way mentally. Help her get through this and then deal with your grief. I still think he ran away cause he did not know how to deal with his wife....just my opinion...

  • @MsPrincess49 You may think he was dealing with it better, but that's a weak observation. When he went on about trying & trying he looked emotionally exhausted to me & while his wife was able to deny their son's death & avoid the pain, he had to feel grief over his son & worry over his wife. Instead of having a partner to help him thru she shut him out. And worst of all he had to face regret. I'm sure he went over what if I had got the baby out instead of letting Alice say she'd get him.

  • @MsPrincess49 ....I agree with 12burgundy everyone needs a chance to break down when you loose someone that important. Nobody should have to be a pillar forever. Who knows how long Mary would be sick too? Should he have to go years without ever grieving? That's pretty heartless of you, don't you think? It's not like he was running out on her never to return. He left her with family, so he could have a moment. That's what family is supposed to be for.

  • When Mary starts humming....it kills me

  • Where is Mr. Edwards when all this happend?

  • @dacatholicbandorgan He was off the show a the time. He didn't return to the show until the beginning of Season 09.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan Doing another show that was canceled a few years later, around 1982, so he went back to Little House.

  • Caroline was being sarcastic at the end.

  • Mary creeps out her own mother.

  • Shit happens. Its not all Albert and that other boys fault. If they didnt have that picnic. If that old man hadnt brung his pipe. If he never would have gotten up so they could take it. If the boys didnt smoke it. if Hester-Sue never came downstairs. All those things.

  • if shed have just picked the baby up....

  • i know it would have taken her some seconds to pick her own baby up. if it mean that much to her she wouldn't have left her baby to someone else. dumb mary got what she deserved. now it is alberts turn he should get something chopped of :)

  • you are pretty stupid. try telling that dumb stuff to the cops say i'm not responsible, what if you hadn't stoped me, or what if my parents wouldn't have had sex. lmao ur a fool

  • I agree with you that stuff happens....no one is perfect but unfortunately I believe it was Albert's and the other boy's fault. I love Albert but the truth is the truth.

  • No, it just happened it was really nobodies fault at all. It just happened thats all. And plus I really dont think the boys would of just through the pipe, they would have put it out first, I mean boys can be dumb but no that dumb!

  • @SapphireAndAmber Exactly! Its not all Albert's or his friends fault there are a dozen things that you could blame this on besides those two.

  • While I love little house, why is it that every 3rd episode someone dies?

  • I believe everything happens for a reason. I also believe if put your trust and faith in God , he will see you through tough times. :)

  • why all that tumbs down, I am a christian myself but if this is his opinion let him!

  • true. we should all be open minded.

  • how can you say with certainty there is no god? let's just agree that nobody can be sure if there is or there isn't.

  • I don't thik so for if everything had a reason your life would have been already chosen for you

  • @callye Amen.

  • OMG! this episode is so sad...

  • I never have watched this episode all the way through but as a writer I can really see the beautiful message ML tried to convey in this story. It's the ultimate message of forgiveness between Johnathan and Albert as well as Mary and Albert. I mean how many of us can say they could find forgiveness in such tragedy!

  • I agree...the guilt that Albert must have felt...not only the baby dying but also Mrs. Garvey...How did he face everyone after this...Forgiveness....something I guess we should all learn

  • I couldn't live with myself.

  • Haha Caroline is funny when she says "I mean if you were gonna give him some medicine or something like that." She's making fun of Charles. ;)

It's good to have some comic relief.

  • Poor Mary went through so much in her life. First loosing her sight then her child. :O( This episode always made me sad.

  • yeah.. she lost two children.. the first one didn't even get born before she lost it.

  • Adam needs time to think... it makes sense.

  • Imagine how much guilt albert would have!

  • @ChildOfTheSettingSun

I'm sure he feels guilt, but Albert didn't threw the pipe the other kid did..

  • @ladyinred868 It was still his responsibility, because he was down there smoking.

  • @ChildOfTheSettingSun

Well of course it was! but

just not as much as everybody makes it out to be (at least that's what I think) Oo

  • @ladyinred868 IMO, I think that he was equally responsible... but that's just me. I understand what you're saying though :-)

  • @ChildOfTheSettingSun

Don't really know what IMO means??? Oo and I guess it's just a habit that when you like somebody you wanna think the absolut best of them :S

  • @ladyinred868 IMO means in my opinion...

  • @ladyinred868 Sorry :-} IMO is "in my opinion...". I love Albert too :D But, I guess I'm just heartless... ;-)

  • @ChildOfTheSettingSun

Oh all right thanks! xD haha no i'msure you're not ^^

  • @ChildOfTheSettingSun yea... and he wasn't even the one to put the smoking pipe in the box!

  • im srry for mary first she goes bilnd then she loese her baby

  • @carmesundae She miscarried one baby before she had this one too. Then she got her hopes up thinking she'd get her sight back when she saw light, but it was just a mind trick so she stayed blind. Then her husband gets his sight back and she feels ignored when he's more interested in his sighted friends. The writers really messed with her a lot, didn't they. But no husband or kids in real life sounds sadder. Did she even get to be a teacher?

  • @carmesundae lost her baby twice... she miscarried the first one in Season 5..

  • My daughter wondered about God's motives the way Jonathan did.

Her dad was one of the most devoted followers of God I knew, and he lived his life to please God.

I can't get my daughter to understand why it happened, b/c I don't know why either.

The only idea I've accurately conveyed to he is that God didn't fly the planes into the World Trade Center. I can't get her beyond that point.

  • from what i can understand, u lost a loved one on 9/11. I'm so sorry.....truely i am.

  • I've never liked Brahm's lullaby but since I saw this as a kid, I reeeeally don't like it now.

  • Did Mary go on to have other children?

  • No, I'm afraid not... : (

  • @navet1985 The 'real' Mary Ingalls never married or had children. She died in Oct. of 1928.

  • @bluenail03 how did she die?

  • @AmandaRules4ever I believe she died of a diabetes. That is what killed most of the Ingalls family in real-life.

  • @bluenail03 That's sad. I guess they didn't have insulin shots back then. And seizures can be fatal when the heart stops in a grand mall.

  • @navet1985 She never had any at all. The real life Mary Ingalls never married and never had children.

  • the lullaby is "Brahms Lullaby" .. it's a tune that has stuck with me since seeing this episode as a child ...

  • i feel bad for them all but mosty albert

  • Ma sure knows how to talk sense to stubborn old Charles. I adore him, but he's just so conservative and that annoys me a bit.

  • he tried to help everybody, and how about his own family's problem? Now i dont like him at all!!! And Caroline should stop that smile also! I'm not blaming on them, but i cant stand it.

Once again i wish i didnt watch this episode. I am so depressed :(

  • Does Albert tell it at the end?

  • his friend does

  • i mean what lullaby is mary humming?

  • In German it's called "Guten Abend, gute Nacht" and my mum used to sing it to me and my sister! :(

No idea what it's called in English, sorry.

  • lol well i already found out!its called brahms lullaby in english-well so i think

  • a little late but

    lullaby and good nite...

  • what lullaby is mary singing?

  • The Ingalls seem to be drinking coffee all the time! way to go coffee lovers!!

  • Poor Albert, What a burden to bare. Such good people, it's too bad the writers wrote so much sadness into the script. God had nothing to do with it 19truthteller.. Michael Landon did lol...

  • poor albert oh my gosh it was just an accident, it must be hard for him not to tell anyone what he did

  • I'm sure it was u0110141...

  • @linkaqt1 Why the question marks?

  • @Emotional2000 what did the 'u0110142' mean?

  • @linkaqt1 Oh, that was a youtuber I was talking to about this epi.

  • @Emotional2000 ohh lol! wow im so dumb! XD

  • @linkaqt1 No problem... We all make mistakes. It is no big deal.. : D

  • You still may ask, "Why does He let somebody we loved die? Couldn't He have spared them, and still accomplished whatever His purpose was?" Often, we don't know exactly why He allowed something bad to happen. Nor do we always know why He spared this person, or didn't spare that person. But we do have His promises in His Word. We can know that He is in charge, and in the end all will be well. Don't second-guess Him. That's what faith is all about....I apologize for how wordy I was.

  • I agree that all things happen for a reason. I respect your beliefs and I thank you for sharing. However, note, not everyone shares your belief in God. Let's be careful in expressing our views as LHOP fans on this site. I want everyone to be able to enjoy the series, including those who may not express an interest in God or religion.

  • Understood. If anyone doesn't like my comments, they don't have to read them. Like Laura said somewhere in the series, it's best to say what you think, even if it might offend somebody in the short run.

  • I can't argue with that 19truthteller... Laura did say those words.

  • Third, the fact of God's unconditional love is not that He allows tragedy to hit us, but that He promises to be with us when it hits. He promises to get us through it. And for those who keep on loving Him, He works all things out for their good.

  • Second, if God never let us face those consequences, we would never grow. Suffering has a purpose. It's easy to believe in God when things are going well. But when things are going bad? Those are the times of testing that make our faith grow stronger or weaker. Those are the times that we can learn new lessons on what's really important in life.

  • 19truthteller, I totally agree with you. But this is a fictional series and producers play around with the script as they see fit.

  • "Why?" Man has always asked that question. If God is really God, why does He let bad things happen?....First, bad things happen because of sin. Sin came into the world because Adam and Eve disobeyed God. So it's not God's fault that tragedies happen, bringing sorrow and death. It's man's fault.

  • did this show ever win an emmy?

  • I do not believe so 4stemcellresearch. :(

  • i'm shocked caroline wasn't more upset about her friend

  • Unfortunately, I think she was more concerned abnout holding her family together. Her daughter had just lost her 1st child, Caroline's grandchild... Not to dismiss her friend's death, but I think Caroline had other things on her mind.

  • Well said Moon2Earth! Certain cast members really had to dig deep and put their acting chops into full effect! The incredible performances sure make an impact.

  • I totally agree hawkwind5! The acting was truly magnificent in this epi. :)

  • yeah its so sad poor mary

  • this is such a tragic but memorable episode. I always wish none of it had happened. Poor Mary..but Mary Sue did such a wonderful job in this episode, very emotional acting. And poor MrGarvey. And Albert..paid a very high price for learing a lesson. I was really annoyed that they left the pipe like that.

  • Melissa Sue, not Mary Sue

  • ooops
