  • Hey.. I jus want know what you did clear coat LPH with 1.3 @ 23 PSI this time?

  • I don't really remember but it was probably about that. Also remember with this gun the pressure is set after the trigger is fully pressed in. It will typically drop a few psi from air to material.

  • what you used 20 to 30PSI for Clear Coat only..

  • My clear gun is the W400 not the LPH too should mention. I think that was the 1.3 but I have been spraying more often now with the 1.4 since i picked it up. But ya for clear with this gun the pressure is pretty low. Any other guns besides the LPH and W400 usually need a higher pressure.

  • That's funny... I use a DeVilbiss GTI for base, and LPH400 Iwata for clear. Both 1.4's.

  • Won't the overreduced clear cause problems when the base is sprayed over it? I use PPG DBC and use their DBC 500 clear base as a ground coat when blending.

  • It wont cause any problems no, the DBC 500 will work fine too.

  • So if I over reduce my DC3000 clear as a ground coat it won't lift?

  • nope, the (activated) DBC 3000 would be fine. The reduction is high, around 9:1 reducer:activated clear.

  • Thanks for the tip Jimmo.

  • i have the same gun but i rather use the 1.3sata rp for clear. its a good gun since i use it for siikkens high solid clears. the tailgate came out good, nice job.

  • was that the iwata for the clear coat??

  • yup, the W400

  • It can be either an over-reduced clearcoat or clear basecoat. In this case it is clear base coat that fills in the small scratches making it easier to blend across.

  • So what is the orientation coat, primer or paint, is it a thinner mix than a normal primer / top coat? Thanks

  • oh ya, it's paint. The clear toner mixed with reducer. You can also use an over-reduced clear to do the same thing.

  • Its usually referred to as an orientation coat. What it does is fills in any minor sandscratches to give your paint a smoother surface to land on. It helps you avoid mottling and in the case of blending can make life a bit easier.

  • What's the purpose for that first optional coat ? And it looks clear, is it paint or solvent ? Thanks
