IMO though Liz's rape was disturbing [of course, wonderfully acted]...i will always feel in terms of Daytime pushing the envelope...OLTL's gang rape [about 4] on Marty w/ Todd as the leader was much worse...it was long too.
You have to admit - GH really went there with the Cassadine characterisations and storylines. They were quite bold for daytime television back in the day. These were the golden years of GH indeed... and Stefan was such a gift of a character.
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think GH was the first Daytime show to really hit on the subject of rape; especially when Liz was raped in the park. Even though it doesn't show anything really "graphic", Liz's rape in the park remains one of the most disturbing GH episodes, imo. I haven't seen or heard of any other Daytime soap pushing the envelope as much as the 1998 rape of Liz.
I actually missed those episodes so just hada look here... I completely see where you are coming from - Liz's rape along with Emily's has just left me completely unnerved. I think GH got steadily progressive and daring since the Luke and Laura rape - not to mention brave. This is quite heady stuff for daytime television. Liz just absolutely broke my heart...
Back in 1994 and 1995 Y&R had this character named Matt Clark who raped two women and both of those scenes were pretty graphic. It was hard to watch. But yeah the Liz rape storyline was intense. But I will never forget Matt raping Sharon and Amy those scenes were beyond disturbing because both of these women were dating Matt at the time he seemed all nice then he just brutally raped them.
lets me gets this straight years ago laura was kidnapped, taken to cassadine island and force to marry stavros but became involved w/stefan, bore his son and then left him behind? sounds like a very epic story for a heroine!
Well, Laura's behind held on the island by Stefan's brother, Stavros, who is hellbent on controlling Laura and has been known to force himself on women in the past. Stefan knows Stavros is capable of rape and that's why he asked.

Hell at least Stefan realized the Cassadines were twisted enough that they may deserve to be extinct. That spoke well of him. lol
