Thank you, Emily. Wonderful to hear you open up about your own challenges and struggles as a child no matter how big or small they were. A wonderful role model.
And I refer to their work as demanding because when you act you have an script that you can't modify. You have to say the exact words in the script. You are also surround by many people. All of them are looking at you, and waiting for you if you commit a mistake. That must be a lot of pressure.
I would like to know what all this actors have done to achieve this level of fluency. She says that she faked an northern accent but I don't think that anyone should fake neither an accent nor a voice to speak fluently. At least I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. So I see all this famous people working in the media but really no one tells exactly what their method is/was to speak fluently. Specially working in such demanding environment for a former stutterer.
@gnomopocho I think she told the truth, she found out if she spoke in another accent she wouid not stutter. Don't forget that she was very young at the time, somewhere between 8 and 12 I think she said one time and she found out that if she became someone else her speech was controllable. She also indicated one time that she came from a good home and had problems I think she said on words that started with "c". Very possible.
@contender60 I am not saying that she is lying. Maybe she had a very mild problem otherwise I don't understand how all this actors can work as actors.
@gnomopocho you are absolutely right, her speech problem was mild. She works for the American Institute for Stuttering (AIS) and they never reply to any comments about that her speech problem was mild and that she doesn't really represent the majority of stutterers who have a much more serious problem. I guess they like the fact that a famous person who "stuttered" is supporting AIS. The founder of AIS has an on-going argument with Ronald Webster so AIS tries to undercut him in anyway they can.
Wow, what a brilliant speech. She didn't stutter even once, and she expressed herself how she wanted to be expressed. I'm happy for her. Hope I'll become that fluent in the near future.
@StutteringTreatment I like Emily Blunt very much but she didn't have a very bad speech problem in the first place and darktee thinks that she has a speech problem. She is a professional actress and could not possible have a severe speech problem if at all. Let this comment stay and respond to it professionally without deleting it, I think this is important since dartree said " Hope I'll become that fluent in the near future." I think Emily Blunt is great to support AIS but truth is needed.
Its great to hear someone in the public eye talking about stuttering. A confident and humorous speech, and quite touching to see her get emotional at the end.
@BillyBraz i thought it was a great speech also and I am glad that someone talked about stuttering with success. I once was in a Toastmasters Speech Contest where I had to compete at 3 different Toastmasters clubs all over my state and I gave a speech ABOUT STUTTERING. I did not win and when I asked why I did not even place or finish high was because my speech was not interesting enough!!! I think Emily is highly attractive and talented and I am glad she is able to use her beauty and fame.
Great video, excelent speech, she's really gorgeous :)
