I first heard Tennessee Waltz when I was five years old at my neighbor's sixtieth birthday party bash in Saatsburgh, N.Y. --Country music in a gazebo outside on a warm summer night with everybody dancing-- You can't get any better than that. Since then it has always been one of my favorite songs. I am thankful for the background information on the song. I grew up to play it on my daddy's Kay bass.
this song was also written with the help of John R. Marshall who for sometime played with the band and wrote with Redd and Pee Wee. All were in the service together too
I couldn't agree more flashbell. These guys were great singers and deserve more credit. Tommy Duncan does such a convincing performance on the Cindy Walker penned song "Dusty Skies", that everytime I hear it, I have to go get a drink of water!
That's Redd Stewart singing this song which he co-wrote with Pee Wee King. He said that the inspiration for composing the song came after they heard Bill Monroe sing Kentucky Waltz.. Patti Page had a big hit with her 1950 recording of the song but I prefer this version. Just beautiful!
@sta66ord, Yes and like Tommy Duncan received little credit/recognition for his vocals on Bob Wills' recordings, Redd Stweart received little recognition and credit for his vocals heard on some of King's recordings.
Redd still rocks. What a voice.
