So long as they calculate the aerodynamics right then as far as I can see the only thing that can go wrong is the wheels basicaly exploding with the angular velocity - but I am sure those will be tested to 10,000 rpm and higher

Thats BS, i study Automotive and motorsport engineering at a london university and many of my ex-peers have had trouble finding engineering based jobs and end up working abroad, or as some thing unrelated to engineerg altogether. There are enough qualified engineers in britain, but the whole system is geared towards having a few 'super graduates' to choose from, not as many as possible.

At the moment at least ( things have a habit of changing on land speed record cars b4 the attempt ) I believe they are a modified version of those used on Thrust SSC to get the 763 mph record in 97. Remember, the disc brakes will only be used below 200mph I think Andy Green has said. Certainly no more than 300mph. The braking parachute and drag bring the speed down greatly b4 he even touches the brake pedal.
