One doesnt die from Volts alone, its a combo of Volt and Ampere. Combined you get watts. So its quite possible to survive 6k Volts and to die by 10 volt. As for not being able to let go... I asume that this works like the cattle-fences around in my country, where the current isnt constant but sent in intervals, so he should get an jolt but thats it since his reflex should make him let go.
