  • How many people remember when everyone hitched rides? Alas, those days are history.

  • i do

  • CANT WAIT FOR SUMMER!

  • I love this song

  • Memory lane .... sigh....

  • MEMORIES

  • man music went to shit compared to old good stuff like this

  • i agree

  • Nice presentation. I was 10 and 11 in 1970 and this song was everywhere. Stuck in my head...Bought the .MP3.

  • I was on a class trip to the Statue of Liberty.....6th grade and we were hanging out eating lunch listening to this....Nice memories....

  • i got no fare to ride a train,im merely drowning in the pouring rain,hitching a riiiiide...hitching a riiidee

  • I keep reading here that this was from the 70s when in fact it was released in 1969, true it dint chart till the 70s, but this is a song from the fantastic 60S.

  • More Cowbells!

  • @yarekhunt Check out "Makin' It" by David Naughton cowbells together with violins!

  • This song really sucks. It's an embarrassment to listen to. Sounds like amateur night.

  • @iluvlif7 you had to live it to love it.

  • Wish it was safe to hitch a ride California.

  • I love this song, reminds me of some good hitching days. I would never do it now, time change.

  • 2 people Hitched a Ride with the wrong person........[uhoh]

  • Great Song, Music At It's Best The 70's.

  • its hard to believe this song doesn't have way more views being it was 35 back in 1970. what happen to all of the american hippis???wow pretty dad i guess i'll playit all day long just for the memories of my dad

  • ali please shit on plane

  • I am getting drunk Mohammad Malik

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • I have this!

  • A 70's love song - Love It!

  • I'm feelin groovy!

  • J'adore!!!!!

  • I am a born again reincarnated hippie

  • used to hitch hike at college, URI 75 to 81 all the time. Remember this song from the 60s when at the beach. going to the beach was a real treat. One car family. Had cousins in visiting. Girls were becoming interesting to me and I did like the beach. Fresh seafood in Rhode island

  • I was shooting gooks in Nam to this tune. Semper Fi

  • @RiG0d been there done that but purple haze by Hendricks was more fun. Especially when I was trippin'!!!!

  • I'd like to say that hitching wasn't anymore safe in the late 60s than it is today. I know I've hitch hiked enough in the 2000s. You still meet wonderfully nice people who go out of their way to help.

  • still one of the best all time transitions to the piano at: 1:32. Those descending and ascending notes. Gosh I remember this so vividly when I first heard it when I was around 10 at the beach.

  • Does anyone remember the B side of this single?

  • One of the great songs played on "The Now Explosion".........WPIX TV NYC....years before VH1...........the greatest time to be young in college and in love 1967-1970

  • Childhood flashback !

  • Another of my old favorites.

  • This is a very dangerous thing to do these days

  • @Freyja1133 Just like playing in the street, even 10 years ago that used to be semi-safe if you were male.

  • @Supergungun Wrong..Playing the street ( ten years ago) wasn't safe for a child to do... gender doesn't make any difference

  • @Freyja1133 Safer than now.

  • @Supergungun That's true

  • @Freyja1133 Born in 1991 I was on the streets as a child at the turn of the century and nothing happened to me, no creeper vans, nowadays I see more of those vans in front of elementary schools than actual parents.

  • @Supergungun I was born in the early 60s ..when it was safe to play outside... Now there are considerably more dangers for kids today...

Everything from Drugs to Child porn.....etc

  • @Freyja1133 Born in 65, I know what you mean.

  • Wow.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • was playing a little melody on my guitar. and i kept thinking, this sounds like a song i know. took me a little while to start saying "hitching a riiiiiide"

  • Zoyclem, is that you? Are you serious lol, It's not a theory, it's sadly reality, NASA will be hitchin a ride with the Russians,an that's ok.

After all 15 million Factor jobs were hijacked out of the Country the last 20 years an no one careduntil reality set in for states,

(Now they have massive layoffs while the people responsible for hijacking Manufacturing the last 20 years lay on a beach, That's not a theory Genius. Check the National Debt, It's 15 Trillion, an May GOD BLESS you with Wisdom

  • @TheOldcards I don't believe you can use the term hijacked when the companies themselves chose to outsource. It's the companies fault and no one elses.

  • CHOOOOOOOOON!!!! Great lyrics, great melody, so simple, yet a fantastic song.

  • Nice song...haven't heard it in ages.

  • Comments about government conspiracies on a "Hitchin' a Ride" video??? Paranoid schizophrenia is apparently more prevalent than we could imagine.

  • In all Fairness .... I must warn you, "I've been telling the United states Government about this economic situation for the last 20 years ........ "however, since they only have on record an I.Q. as low as 240" ..... "they thought they could ignore me" "how did that work out for your "modern day atheist aristocrats" ,"looks like to me they are nothing more then idiots who have proven themselves as unworthy"....... " 15 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT" GOD knows better, perhaps you should to my friend

  • Sure, I understand perfectly what your saying, in theory your correct , in theory people with a master degree shouldn't be prisoners , "Yet they are" look at your 15 trillion dollar debt , an ask yourself again, "Who's hands were really tied"? "while not stepping out of line" ... which brings us to NASA an this

"Nations Economic cleansing process over the last 30 years " , "while physicists an members of atheist organizations" have got NASA now hitchin a ride, "How you doing Bernie Maddock?

  • @TheOldcards,

You realize this is a song, right? It has nothing to do with the 'theories' you're sharing.

  • @TheOldcards Let's start with 'your and you are'. Now your is used when talking about....oh forget it, big college brain! Let us not forget, all the presidents and congressmen and legislators have college degrees. Every one of them for the last century. So maybe your investigation should begin there. May I suggest Bryn Mawr. That is where the soviets train their female seductresses and counterespionage agents. Oh, and Chloe Grace Moretz is SMOKING HOT!!! I'd like to hitch a ride with her.

  • Hey NASA ........ How is it you can mathematically figure out astrological numbers yet you have no idea why your broke as a Nation ? hm? I reckon you should believe in God more .... I don't think he appreciated your big bang theory my little man.

Welp guess you better hitch a ride intto space with the Russians genius .... don't forget to say GODSPEED, Amen

  • @TheOldcards Physicists created the big bang theory, not NASA. Not to mention the big bang theory has really absolutely nothing to do with the process of safely taking men off this Earth, which is NASA's sole purpose. I think they're financial situation might have a little more to with the countries financial situation, not belief in god. I reckon that lack in a belief of god was necessary for man to make it off this planet in the first place.

  • Hey NASA ........ How is it you can mathematically figure out astrological numbers yet you have no idea why your broke as a Nation ? hm? I reckon you should believe in God more .... I don't think he appreciated your big bang theory my little man.

Welp guess you better hitch a ride to space genius .... don't forget to say GODSPEED, Amen

  • thank you, thank you !!! was 11 years old when this song came out, great times with my grandfather (swimming in the creek, walking the paths ) ...

  • Used to hear this on AFVN radio when I was in Vietnam. It really helped us think of home and what it was to be free and young!!!

  • @cars8709

Well Semper Fi buddy! Can't say as I felt too free but I damn sure was young and thinking of home!

  • @cars8709 my G-PA was in vietnam R.I.P. thank you all for serving our country proudly

  • oh oh what a great pleasure to find this awesome Vanity Fare song here - it brings me back to my childhood at the beginning of the 70s when it was often be played on German radio stations!! And I love it now!! Thanks for postin' it from Germany!

  • It's too bad you can't actually do what this song says safely anymore. Hitchin a ride was not dangerous back then. Unfortunately doing the same thing today can get you, robbed, raped, or murdered, Sad.

  • @redmr2na I just think we hear about it more. Back then, girls probably just went "missing" and something sordid was assumed.

  • keegan's truck :)

  • @Timic83amv thats what led me too this song too :D

  • Awesome montage of photos! LOVE IT!

  • thanks for the post 45rpm Singles... :)

  • This music is awesome, lights up your spirit and really gets you going... If you can listen to this song and NOT want to dance.... you have no soul...

  • blast from the past, nice feel good tune.

  • great song

  • From 1970-72 I hitched across the USA six times (NY to wherever, Seattle to Boston). What a great way to see the country and meet people!

  • Didn't think I would ever hear this again. Love it. Thanks for the memories.

  • Back in those days I hitched back and forth from coast to coast six times. Beautiful to be out there under the big western sky . Met some great people. Another era. People wonder why I never get lonely. Lovely memories.

  • fucking love this shit!

  • I had this 45. I wore it out playing it so much !!!

  • Best song EVA!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Oh yeah, remember this one w/the KISN-AM Good Guys Mike O'Brien/Pat Patee - Portland, Oregon

(I remember Mike O'Brein being known as "O.B." until those tampons came out!)

  • love it then, love it now

  • This is the very first song I looked for once I discovered YouTube. My neighbor had it on 45 and his sisters almost wore it out. Man, those were the days!

  • I first heard this song in the movie Now & Then.

  • @CC927 I'd heard this song before, but I hadn't ever thought to look up who sang it until I watched Now & Then. Now & Then is a great movie in my opinion.

  • Great sound quality

  • 1970 great year for music as I remember.

  • What a find your profile is, so many wonderful old 45's, will be back many times. Thanks for all these uploads. Page One for faves :-)

  • what a great song for those times. it always makes me feel young again.

  • I loved this song and one of the best. I give this song thumb up.

  • awesome, just awesome.

  • Even though they made other songs, this one remains their best-known & loved--for good reason! Thanks partner!

  • now this is the real song. +10

  • I just love this song! One of my favorites from the 70's!

  • "Hitchin' A Ride", written by Peter Callander and Mitch Murray, gave them a million-selling hit reaching number 5 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and making number 16 in the UK in January 1970. This disc sold over one million copies

  • Back in the day, I did a little thumbs out to catch a ride to where ever. I really grooved out to the pictures that complimented the song so well. As a matter of fact, you did an awesome video to a really cool song!!

  • I always loved this song. Can't help but get into it.

  • @wendydale1 i have long time ago

  • i have long time ago

  • Great song. My buddy and I would ditch school in 12th grade and go cruise Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in Huntington Beach looking for "babes" in bikinis that were hitch hiking. Back then hitch hiking was not considered dangerous. This song was frequently jamming on KRLA AM radio.

    Great memories!

  • Sounds like awesome times, man! Too bad the world takes itself too seriously nowadays and it's not the same anymore. And for that, I give you a high 5! :)

  • @GregSr We hitched up and down California. The on ramps were always full with hitch-hikers.

  • @GregSr

Would you get busy with these beached bikini babes?

  • @RyanPelley1 the question is ... did he get busy to the song .. in the background after the initial hitch .. lol

  • @teeberjeebs

    Haha, yes!

  • @RyanPelley1 I only wish. That was the funny part. We would finally pick up a couple of cute "babes" and then get all tongue tied. We weren't exactly the smoothest operators.

  • @GregSr

Haha, that's funny man. I know exactly what you mean.

  • @GregSr I bet today those "babes" are playin soccer with their titties everyday....... It's ashame we get old!

  • @GregSr me to...class of 72 fountain valley...

  • @GregSr How long ago was this? It's a shame KRLA is no longer around. :(

  • @DanielJoseDiego My beach cruisin days - including body surfing - were from about 1969 through 1973 (age 16 to 20). My sister and I always teased each other about who's favorite AM radio station was better. I claimed KRLA was better and she claimed KHJ was better. We still joke about that now. Both stations played all the top 40 music of the day. But I liked the DJ's better on KRLA. I spent seemingly endless days laying on the beach while enjoying all the "hits" of those days.

  • @GregSr Thats funny. Back here on the East coast the hottest AM station was 77 WABC in New York City. with Cousin Brucie. Now it's all talk, politics go figure. lol........

  • @GregSr Those are some killer memories man. You grew up like during the perfect era of music (for me) from 1966-1975 which coincidentally was when my parents grew up here in the L.A. area. They sucked in all the great music and that is why I love it as well. Although I grew up during the 80's.

  • @GregSr i HAVE NEVER HITCH HIKED TOO PROUD

  • Wolfgang Vock

  • Oh yeah, we all made it home in time. (Barely) The sun was already up, and I could hear my mom walkin down the hall to get us up for school as we dove in thru the window. Laffs, Talk about the perfect song for the perfect moent!

    /

  • The first time I ever heard this song. me n my friends had all snuck out the window. We were all trying to get home before we got busted. It starting raining, one of those DRENCHING summer rains. There were like 5 of us, soakin wet, trying to get home, n this guy stopped n gave us a ride.soakin wet n we even hadda dog w/us! This song came on the radio, n we all just about busted a gut laffin! It was our theme song that WHOLE summer! Jessie, Carol, Barb, etc, This one's for you!! 1976! Woo Hoo!

  • Nice story. Hope you didn't get in trouble.

  • i have always loved this song since it would come on the oldies station. what a classic song.

  • i love this song.

  • this song always reminds me about my friends and I walking to the wash just for spite.

  • The very first time I ever heard this song, was in 1975. I was watching this some kind of Monster Show, and the DJ on this show was a Werewolf, and he was playing this song, and then was dancing to it in front of a spinning light.

1975 was the only year it ever came to Los Angeles this Monster Show.

Vincent Price was also in this show making Philisophical Spoofs.

  • No music like the days huh? If it weren't for technology, I would have loved to be born in their time. Come to think of it, maybe I do.

  • A song that makes you feel good no matter what the situation is.Glad you have this. Thanks partner!

  • @AnthonysDen It really does...never fails!

  • @calalilygirl Ain't it the truth!

  • haha this is so cool :D
