I think the issue in Cyprus is interesting so I did a lot of research in the last years, from both sides and the British side. The truth came as a surprise to me when I realized that Turkey wanted a part of Cyprus well before the 1960s. In fact Turkey wanted the whole of Cyprus in the beginning of the 20th century but realized that it would be hard with so many Greek inhabitants. Then Nihat Erim was asked in the 1950s to write a report about what would be the best course of action on the island.

Peace can only be achieved when Greek Cypriots admit past injustices. The story of what really happened between 1955 and 1974 rarely gets proper airtime in any media. The Greeks on the island don't want to admit denying a minority there civil rights, freedom of movement, and full political engagement. The Greeks have been fighting for centuries but have never been successful.
This does not mean that Cyprus ever belonged to Greece.

I think the issue in Cyprus is interesting so I did a lot of research in the last years, from both sides and the British side. The truth came as a surprise to me when I realized that Turkey wanted a part of Cyprus well before the 1960s. In fact Turkey wanted the whole of Cyprus in the beginning of the 20th century but realized that it would be hard with so many Greek inhabitants. Then Nihat Erim was asked in the 1950s to write a report about what would be the best course of action on the island.

Secondly, you say Peace-Keeping operation? Why then an OCCUPATION until now? omg, i have just moved to cyprus (paralimni), and i like to know the history of what happened where i live, but man everything i have read up on is different, greeks blame the turks, the turks blame the greeks. i still dont know the truth. iv been reading up on both sides of the arguments, and im still no better off from when i started. but the war is over now, enough blood was shed. lives were lost on both sides. i think the divide works well.

i personally was denied the right to a rightful birthplace in Varosi, in 1974 and forced out of the country to th UK.
I have many friend who are Turkish Cypriots. We class ourselves as Cypriots, and prefer to exclude the "prefix" of Gree or Turkish, as we have common ground, country of origin and a national identity.
We do not see the French or Italians laying claim to England just because they settled here some centuries ago!
So for all you that belive in this or any other propaganda..sad.

Peace may come about as a result of an acceptance of the 'other'; but peace also requires that justice is done; and in this case justice requires Turkey withdraws its troops, allows the refugees to return to their homes, and submits itself before a war crimes tribunal to account for the horrors it inflicted on Cyprus in 1974.

The Turks weren't totally innocent in this matter. The Turks were also killing Greeks and had their own militia burning Greek villages and desecrating orthodox churches. Neither side had clean hands. It was political on both sides. but you only have to look at Turkey's track record on human rights and the way they handled the Kurdish issue to see who the true aggressors were. To this day, armed Turkish fighter planes fly into Greek airspace provoking and causing unrest and fear amongst Greeks.
