Very interesting footage. I've been a fan of Sonata since the Silence-album and watched the lineup change over the years, but as long as Tony is still in the band, Sonata will continue to be awesome. Tony is the primary songwriter, the voice, heart and soul of the band. This was a great lineup too, the first time I saw Sonata live was at the 2002 Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in Helsinki, Finland and they played with this lineup.

I have this Bootleg, it's called Beginning Of a Chapter and is of the September, 3rd 2001 concert.

In this 3 concerts (3 and 4 of September in Tokyo and 5-Sept in Osaka)

@neemandhaydn i have to disagree there. now not been a fan of sonata lonf enough to know mikko or jani but i think they've actually become progressively better with each album. i reckon tony's made a great effort on the 'days of grays' album. i think it brings more variety to it than most albums and its definately the most ambitious yet. tbh i think its paid off. they've got a lot more new fans with they're new release, so their not dead. if anything they're rising higher than ever before.

I think Tommy Portimo is the best drummer I've ever seen, Tony Kakko the best vocalist I've ever seen, and Jani Liimatainen the king of the gods, by far the best guitarist I've ever seen. Those three are Sonata Arctica. Without Jani, Sonata is not the same. He was the reason I kept watching the For the Sake of Revenge DVD over and over and over again. Probably the only concert I'll ever seen of them. I still might go see them in concert, but I'll probably never see Jani play now. T_T

aactually i can see why you say that jani and mikko are better than elias and henrik. mikko has more technique and skill. henrik is obviously more energetic than mikko becuz henrik loves to use his keytars during live performances and that puts on quiet a show. henrik has made some pretty badass keyboard solos with sonata, like paid in full, dont say a word, flag in the ground, misplaced, in black and white, and aint you fairytale. elias will catch up to jani eventually

Henrik is a great keyboardist, if he wasn't, they wouldn't have picked him. But one problem I've always had was with his live performances. His soloing can be very sloppy live. Mikko on the other hand appears to have more precise technique. Improvisation is good too, but I've seen it done without it being sloppy, Henrik just needs to fine tune his technique a little.

Agreed. I like Sonata for the solos though, and yeah, you're right, but he doesn't make the solos sound better. They sound worse when he goes improv. I've seen Sonata 4x live and everytime he improved a solo it sounded bad. The new keyboard player plays this solo REALLY sloppy, but the keyboard player in this video annihilates it dead on and it sounds amazing. I'm all for talent so when he nails an impossible sounding solo I just love it =) Compared to the new keyboard player failing it.
