Just re-watched this video. This has been very informative and my favorite by far. Thanks Hiram for all your videos. Wishing you and your family the best of health and a happy holiday. Give my best to Max too!
i love ur can opener,i cannot find one here in the philippines, coke can would make a cool pencil holder, great upload, funny how u finished the soda lol
Couldn't u just turn the pot lid upside down when packing? When you put the magnet there and apoxy it didn't get to hot and melt did it. I couldn't find a Heineken can like that so I made a chef boyardee 40 oz can as a stove pot. I also order a zebra billy pot
Excellent vid yet again! Had the same problem with can cutting two days ago! I was trying to cut a Fosters! The Lifesavers lid idea is real cool too! I learn so much from your vids. I've made 4 of my own stoves and two for the neighbors so far! I'm about to get my 5 Liter miniKeg hot water tank working soon. Might try some baseboard radiator with aluminum fin for a heat exchanger on top of an alcohol stove ... -john
You had me in suspense when you said "Let me empty this" lol I thought you were gonna dump it into the sink or something, thank you for downing it haha. I Love Coke. Excellent video. Great ideas and tips. Ya got me to subscribe to ya. Keep up the great work!
Hey man i love your vids and i have the same problem with the can opener that i moded it will not open the beer or soda cans. so i was wondering do you have any suggestions. message me back
You are the man. The only person that points out the fact that the can opener needs modification (i.e. file it down to give the clearance). I also want to point out that you larger Heineken can has a different shape at the top than the smaller can. I can only find the smaller can top (i.e. not several ridges/rings) on the larger size can (i.e. the large can looks like the smaller one in your video, but taller and wider).
Ok, not to be a burden on society but nobody I know drinks hinegan ( our liquor store doesn't even carry it( spelling?) can you please send me one with the lid cut off( I'll just screw it up) please... I'm 13 so I can't drive to the city and buy it...lol
what about the lining that's applied to cans today? It's some sort of micro thin material to prevent can's from degrading or imparting taste onto products? Is this safe to boil stuff in then eat?
Where can I get one of those. Target has a newer fancier type and it doesn't work on tapered or indented edges. Bed Baths and Beyond caries the same one. I think it's the Oxo brand.
I don't know about anyone else, but the part of you drinking the coke was great. Made me laugh. A lot of useful information, here. Thanks for it and especially Max.
Great vids. Very useful info. Love the magnet idea. Could use just my knife blade to pick up and handle it. I buy them lifesavers tins at a local flea market for two or three for a dollar. Candy is stale so it gets dumped, but great container. Do not use it for things u wanna keep dry. Not waterproof.
Mr. Cook you have a John goodman style voice that demands attention.your ability to communicate step by step instructions along with great visual presentations is impressive. My mother is a Cook from mobile ala. I would be proud to know you as a relative.great bid, keep em coming. chucka leone
That lid is cool! I never seen those until lately But didn't know they fit the Heine pot. Lee Valley tools has them with pencil magnets in them. That's the only place I've seen them.
Cool ideas and a great video. It is time to drink this big can. I will use my wife's opener, maybe she will not notice :-) or I will buy her a new shiny one.
I work in a dental lab and our wax for making patterns comes in a little tin just like the life saver tin. It's from a company called yeti wax. Now I know what to do with the empties. What a great tip!
Hiram for a pot lid handle on your favorite pot, what about using the "Quick Release" side of a "Double Key Ring"? Keys go everywhere with me. The one I have has 2 small ball bearing that hold the 2 rings together. The shaft measures about 265 ths. You'd probably need to open the hole a bit and this would be removable and very handy for a handle w/ring attached. I think that I bought it at Wal-Mart 2 to 3 years ago.
hey man, I looked every where for those life savers tins, well I could;nt find them any where and just gave up, tonight I went right across the street and in a little indian store, there they were, lol I bought 3
Excelent video. Thanks for showing us that candy tin top. I was also wondering if there was a way to remove those tops of the cans without those openers. I now live in Europe and have not been able to find any, strange huh. 8-/
Thank you. I'm always glad to hear when someone has enjoyed one of my videos. As long as I'm not boring people I am more that happy to share my videos.
Hey bro loved the video! I've been trying to figure out how to use the same side cutter on 12 oz cans with no success. The chug and the belch gave me a good chucle. Thanks for the info.
My First Time watching this video, thanks for the mention on my coffee brewer, it has been a pleasure making my 2 cups of coffee in the brewer everyday. This video is great the chugging of the soda and the be right with you comment was funny. We did finally get out and picked up the right cutter for the 24oz cans, I did manage to get myself a 12 pack of 24oz keg cans the other day for $27.00 at a liquor store down the road. Thanks Again
I found one of those tins at a gas station today and also discovered that the tin itself fits right in the top of the Heineken pot and its a tight fit. Makes a nice lid. Threw away the candy though-- that was a nasty flavor!!
super VID! got to gets me one o them cutters ;o) and the lifesafer lid! holy cow, what a great way to make a burner without having to drill or mill a bunch of holes. as for drinking pop (or beer) i will never challenge you to a chuggin contest after what I just saw.
a strainer/lid good idea. I have an old camel cigarette tin like that going to go try it out. Oh and by the way the wife did end up wanting me to make one of cozy's for her freezer bag cooking on the trail. THanks for the ideas. Keep them coming.
Yes its the side cutter may get a exter for me couse i also grind mine to fit them old ball cans the wife got one ever can she opens she save the covers for me
Good video, Hiram. I use the exact same techniques for lid removal. Excellent idea with the LS fruit tart lid. I believe it is the first time i have seen that one. By the way, the belch was a very nice touch! Peace.

That's an interesting thought about using the lid for a burner. Rather big burner though.
That was the first time I ever drank a Coke so early in the morning. Wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.

Excellent work!
Great sound effects!
The Live Saver lid also makes a good strainer, just leave it on, and carefully pour the hot water out without losing your boiled veggies.
You might wanna try putting "fins" of aluminum tape around the side of your Heineken pot as a heat exchanger. I did that and it worked great!
Bill
MrBillTroop73 3 years ago
Nice idea about using the Lifesave lid as a strainer.
The "put on fins" sounds like a request for another test? BTW did you try painting the bottom of the cans black yet?
hiramcook 3 years ago
I thought about painting them, but the heat exchanger "fins" seem to work much better.
Check out my video "The truth about pots" It shows the heat exchanger I made for the Heineken Pot.

Yep i do all that also. Oh wal mart mark down the side cutter they are now 9.95.Are you going to try the 2 wall insulation cozy?
RJBURG 3 years ago
Is the Walmart side cutter the one that cuts the lid or the side of the can? I'll have to check it out the next time I go to Walmart.
I did the double side on another vid.
