To anyone wondering what the book is about, basically a cro magnon/ homo sapiens 5 year old girl is taken in by a clan of Neanderthals, she learns there guttural sounds and sign language and becomes on of them, and modern day humans are homo sapien sapiens, not homo sapiens. Read the book, before the movie, it was an amazing book and completely changed my perspective on every part of my life. I questioned my religion when i read it at 9 and have been more open minded ever since.
@LordEli considering religion is fiction, why not? And just because it is fiction doesn't change anything, i read the book of Negroes and i have become allot less stereotypical when i think, and that book was fiction.
@SaltySangster You are a Moron there is nothing fictional about religion if you even know what religions truest definition is ya childish prick. its evolution and cavemen that are fiction son. deal with facts I speak facts and my day to day life is all about speaking facts.
@LordEli dude, you are the biggest fucking idiot fag troll ever, and there is no point in arguing with a religious person, because if you could argue and change a religious persons mind there would be no religion. Not replying after this message fucker. Religion was made by a bunch of 100 pound dirty fucks who prolly bathed once a month, and were dumber then most children today. Evolution was thought up by the smartest men in the world, ignorance is bliss my friend either way the book was good.
@SaltySangster No Moron you are the biggest fucking idiot troll fag ever first off. It is atheists and evolutions who welcome homosexuality. Not the inellgient wise spiritual folk. because to to divide Evolutionists/ Atheists from a religious sect is luducris and ignorantly wrong. for they as much a religion and fanatical about their beliefs and activities as any other group. Yes they are a Religion. look up the word MORON!

I want Peter Jackson to make one mover for each of the books. Please, Peter, do it :) (And by the way, I want Lindsey Lohan to play Ayla... Or better: some totally unknown actors to play all af the parts in the movies)
@anjajune oooh that's an awesome idea the movie is so AWFUL. C'mon , Daryll Hannah? she has no muscle on her at all! It would be nice to actually see the animals Auel describes- the so called cave bear in the movie looked like an ordinary grizzly, not the the giant the book describes.
i think daryl hannah was (and is) a good actress & also very beautiful... she looked gorgeous as ayla (from what i could tell in the pictures, as i have not seen the movie). but from what i can see here and from everyone's reviews it looks like the movie sucked. i hope they remake it..all of them, for that matter. who should play ayla?
In the book, you can understand what they are "saying" because your reading the sighn language. In the movie you don't understand what "memories" are, and they can smile. I guess I just felt cheated.
Men can feed babies. Some men do. Any human body had niples and when in contact with hungry babes eventualy produce... Its just not a popular item to discuss. So men are bigger but all men are part women not THE other way around.
Great books read them all a few years ago and am gonna search them out again to re-read, however as in so many cases the film is utter garbage compared to the literature, would reccomend the books but please if you value your sanity stay away form the film!!!
@Ravermom666 I agree with you, Ravemom. I'd like to see Peter Jackson do it in New Zealand, where the scenery is perfect for it, because the first movie was so bad as to be painful.
@Ravermom666 They need to do a remake. And this time use sign language AND voice-overs! I know it's hard to convert a book into a movie, but they cut out so much it felt like a Cliff-notes version.
Feminist misandrist propaganda. I hope the books wasn't like this. All it did was to attack the male hunter - female home maker paradigm. Show the top hunters as rapist. Women are treated brutally and without love. Sending a pregnant woman out into the harsh wilderness would never have happened. Woman not allowed to touch weapons is just silly. In some tribes women crafted the weapons. Equality was a concept that never complicated such societies as they followed natural law of survival.
That wasn't the point of the book. Obviously you've never studied anthropology. It may be unrealistic, however it was meant to give example of anthropological ideas on culture.
@Bunnyshoos93 I agree, the film is showing anthroplogical ideas - but according to the author/director. It seems to me that the science of anthropology has been hijacked if it now promotes feminist ideas. Especially making men look foolish, or beastial rapists. I'm sure rape happened, but only during tribal invasions when the survival mechanism will make them do it. Also, setting these ideologies to a story with a prehistoric setting gives the illusion that feminism is natural.
@Jeorney The book differentiated between a fictional way of Neanderthal life in the Cave Bear Clan, and the modern Cro-Magnon type, represented by the adopted Ayla. The Neanderthals in the book live by instinct and genetic memory of skill sets, giving them strict gender roles, whereas Ayla, not possessing raw instinct but a capacity to learn and adapt, doesn't fall easily into one role or another. Anthropology has shown the male hunter/female gatherer paradigm to not be too rigid in Cro-Magnon.
@Ardwynna Ayla would have raw instinct since she would possess a reptillian core as part the triune brain structure. Its central to our survival system. Its only in the last 100 years that we are living out of tune with nature. I agree women would have been involved in gathering & local foraging. However, protection of the clan or hunting is a male role. This is because females are the foundation of human life on earth. Even at an instinctual level, they would never be put at risk.
@Jeorney mmm "This is because females are the foundation of human life on earth. Even at an instinctual level, they would never be put at risk." well... imo, its just a matter of strenght... men are stronger than women.. thats just the way it is, thats why they went hunting and not the women oh and, if they have babies, men are not able to feed them :) thats why not so long ago, men worked and most of women were housewifes- that´s changing tho :)
@druusky I agree to a point, but remember hunting is also a skill. I still think the main reason is that they bear children. Although thats not why on a conscious level. Men have always felt protective of women, and women throughout most of history liked to feel protected. At least until neo-feminism decended upon us. Then again...Children? OMG! Let's send women to defend the clan and hunt the mammoths after all. ;)
@Jeorney oh I hadnt realised you havnt read the books, must do, its not at all about femenism, why would you think that? its just a girl breaking the mold-
@druusky I didn't suggest its all about feminism although the writter,Jean M. Auel, is a feminist. I know people who has read the books and although they enjoyed it, in retrospect thinks it is both feminist and misandrist. Many critics regard it as "the feminist manifesto". She's trying to suggest to readers that feminism is not a recent issue but has been with us from the beginning.
I got this book from a charity shop aagggeesss ago, and when I mentioned it to my friends, nobody had heard of it so I assumed it was just some nothing novel. But now I find out that there are 4 of them, and its been made into a film! I feel like such an idiot. The first book is definitely one of the BEST books of all time, and made me actually cry several times!

This movie would be great, i just know it. I love the books, of course nothing could top them. When i finish the first book i'm going to watch this movie, it looks great, it's a shame.. i don't think there going to make another one, shame. ={
