"The great danger for family life, in the midst of any society whose idols are pleasure, comfort and independence, lies in the fact that people close their hearts and become selfish
"Faced with today's problems and disappointments, many people will try to escape from their responsibility. Escape in selfishness, escape in sexual pleasure, escape in drugs, escape in violence, escape in indifference and cynical attitudes. I propose to you the option of love, which is the opposite of escape."
All human life--from the moment of conception and through all subsequent stages--is sacred, because human life is created in the image and likeness of God. Nothing surpasses the greatness or dignity of a human person...If a person's right to life is violated at the moment in which he is first conceived in his mother's womb, an indirect blow is struck also at the whole moral order".
@trakomako - Pope Benedict is different - but he is very holy. He is not playful, but he is very gentle. I have watched him reaching out to the people who come to see him, and it is very evident that he truly loves and cares for the people. He is a brilliant man, I have read many of his writings. He is just different - not as "personable" - God bless him!
I was fortunate to see the Pope at this Event... He was wonderful! I remember the applause he got when he first came into the Garden. It must've gone on for 10 minutes, at least. My ears were ringing after that.! He was great. Viva La Papa!
john paul ii was so much better at being warm than our current pope who is too rehearsed and scripted. Even though benedict is really a good man, he is not john paul. I love how the all the bishops were like, what the hell is he doing? I cant wait until he is a saint
Who would think of it... a Pope laughing and playing with the crowd?! How utterly charming! I always loved him so much! I miss him, so much! Now I miss him even more!
@mercychaplet may i suggest that what you're describing is not really "missing"... it is loving. He's no longer with us in body but you are still loving him. Yes, that is what it feels like when someone we love is no longer in body... I hope it deepens your understanding of why it is so hard for many to love.. because they want it to always feel good.
Thank you for your sharing your love with us... !!! :)
@SamFreedom Thanks! Love is not always all hearts and flowers and little pink clouds, as young people think! Sometimes it involves loving and letting go, and giving the loved one over to God. Pope John Paul II was a gift from God to us, a true "papa" to the world, and we watched him embrace his Cross, and suffered with him, because of that love we felt for him, as well as that love we felt for Christ - which is why he was so willing to carry that Cross. One of the many reasons we loved him.
Why is he on crack?
