So this seems to be a stupid question.. It worked fine for me the other day, until today when I opened FCP ready to import my second card, except the left hand side of the Log and Transfer box is missing, the bit where you add volume etc. I quit and opened it again etc etc, I know the solution is going to make me look like an idiot.
@rockslideproductions Not sure to be honest, I NEVR plug my camera in to read the card, so slow, a card reader preferably Firewire 800 is SO MUCH FASTER, especially when you are pulling off multiple 16 gig cards after a long day shooting :)
@evanbutson yeah thanks. I looked it up and you need a card reader, so I guess I'll just have to buy one. So, I'm guessing this doesn't work for express, because I installed it and it didn't seem to work. Even using a card reader, I couldn't even use log and transfer, I had to import it manually through iPhoto.
@ninjatune757 This usually happens when you have copied the cards contents off ontp your hard drive but not kept the complete structure, either log and transfer off the card or use something like ShotPut Pro to dump your cards to hardisk perfectly
ok. here's what i did, I copied the MOV files from the card to a folder on my desktop, the on FCP7 i imported the files, from that folder on the desktop, then i dragged those files onto my timeline, and i didn't need to render, it played without a problem and... all the filters worked as well as dv.
What is it that people call native? cause, that was pretty quick and with minimal steps.
i do recommend switching playback from dynamic to LOW,,
I own the Canon 7D and I have a movie completely shot with the 7D. Unfortunately I didn't keep the files in the folder format right off the card (I made individual folders and dropped the files into them. You mention here that it won't work if that's the case. Is there any way around that at all?
What kind of computer do you have? I have the MacBook aluminum (2.4Ghz) and I'm hoping to get either a DSLR sometime soon or a new MacBook Pro. Is your computer able to handle the footage from the DSLR in Final Cut or do you wish you had a faster computer?
@ShakeAndBakeGuy It will work on that, I did all the FIFA World Cup on that MacBook, but longer term you really want a desktop with a NVIDIA with CUDA acceleration, only a coupe of hundred but you get soooo much more RT
@frankytap Yeah weird, I have uploaded it to my site tdepost dot com just click on the link in the top menu called Vault and then General, it is the only file there.
@drewarrannate I dont believe you can have the camera appear as a card reader, you will need a seperate standalone card reader unfortunately, that being said a cheap USB one is only $10 give or take
Thanks for this, answered all my questions while being a little hungover.

Hi Evan,
Thanks for this helpful video.
When I connect my 5D Mark II to my Mac, it just opens the Canon Disk Utility software. Do you know how I get my camera to act as a card reader?
Thanks again, David
